Finally I thought of wearing a sweater over a dress. I have seen it so many times on other bloggers, I am always late to the party, and always forgot to wear it that way. The day I wore this outfit I was so totally uninspired. My sister and brother-in-law would come over for coffee in the morning, so I didn’t have half the day to think about an outfit. Not that I normally do that. Anyway, then you stand in front of your wardrobe(s) and you just don’t know what to wear. Everything looks boring, I could not see what worked together etc.
When you want to wear a sweater over a dress but have no inspiration…..at all
I actually wanted to wear a dress with a sweater over it, but I didn’t know which dress, which sweater, etc. etc. Then a skirt, no, I dtdn’t feel like wearing a skirt. Trousers? I had the only one I wanted to wear in mind for the next day. So leaves the sweater and dress. I’m actually not a fan of green and black together, reminds me too much of a Christmas tree…… But I had this on and then the doorbell rang. Shit, had to get the sneakers out of the closet, take a look in the mirror , I’m missing something…….necklace…..okay. Et voila!
When I looked back at the photos I thought: maybe a belt could have been used for a little more waist. I added one later but I found that too busy, I had belt it on the sweater. Later on I thought, I could have put the belt over the dress and tucked the sweater in a little bit. Why do I always have that afterwards!! So I did that afterwards and it really looked so much better. So I also took a quick mirror picture of it so you can see it. So imagine for a moment that all photos are with that belt please.
Wearing black and green and not looking like a Christmas tree
Well you might think, then just take new photos, but unfortunately I didn’t have the energy for that. Sometimes I feel like I’m always showing you outfits that I’m never 100% satisfied with. Or am I just never 100% satisfied at all……..sigh…..sometimes I get so tired of myself, lol, but always with a wink!
This outfit I really liked after I belted it the right way. The green and black didn’t bother me at all. Depends on the shade of green, this is not a Christmas shade of green. And the white stitching in the dress breaks up the colour areas in a somewhat playfull way, whitch matches also with the sneakers.
The dress is a summer dress but not that that thin. So perfect to wear now with a sweater. The necklace is pre loved. I don’t like pre loved accessories that much. Think it’s a bit dirty, do you know what I mean. I need to clean it several times and then still some hesitation and aversion crawls up my neck. I have to get over that. Do you like my sweater over dress look?

Thank you very much Gail!
Love the outfit you created – it works well. Rather like Gail, I don’t wear dresses in the winter, it’s skirts every time and always with a sweater, especially now it ‘s so cold. It’s very brrrrr here at the moment!
Thanks so much for hosting and have a great weekend 🙂

This outfit turned out great! I love the colour and fit of the sweater. The ribbed waistband and cuffs give it a nice shape. Hope you have a good weekend!

I did giggle reading your post, Nancy! Feeling a little dirty wearing pre-loved jewellery!!! That’s so funny!!
As for the outfit, I love it! Even without the belt, I think it works really well. The colour of the sweater is beautiful (I adore green) and I wouldn’t think of Christmas unless it was green and red.
Have a fabulous weekend, my friend!

Love your outfit, Nancy! The belt and the tuck give it a whole new look! I wear dresses quite a bit and layer a sweater, blouse or jacket over top is a great way to stretch your wardrobe! Thanks for sharing, and hope you enjoy your weekend!

Thanks Di, I was very pleased with this combination and have worn it several times!
I really like enjoying sweaters over dresses! I don’t do it very often probably because I have so many clothes that I want to wear in my closet. In fact, I decided to wear dresses 7 days in a row because some of my dresses need to be worn!

Haha, great idea! Because we tend to grab the same outfits when they work right? At least I do!
I think the sweater has enough of a waist it looks good even without a belt! I like the extra black accessory you added with your necklace. I hope you have a great weekend!

Glad I’m not the only one who posts photos of outfits I’m not fully satisfied with! I actually like the combination a lot both with and without the belt. I think the wide welt on the bottom of the sweater gives it enough shape, but the belt definitely looks great too.

Oh yes, because that is real life isn’tb it, wearing a outfit that wasn’t quite it! I am not perfect, far from it. Thanks Sally!
I think it looks fab, both with and without the belt. That’s such a gorgeous shade of green, and I’m loving the shape of that jumper as well. I never thought to associate green and black with Christmas trees, though! xxx

Haha, I always have, never liked red and green together either. Thanks Ann.
You did this with hardly any thought and it turned out amazing…both with and without the belt. You’re a natural Nancy,

I like sweaters over dresses. It gives so much warmth and adds a cute skirt to your wardrobe. especially handy during cold trips for me. this is a fine style example here!

THanks! I think I will wear it more often as I really like it!
I used to wear sweaters with dresses when I was in college but I don’t think I’ve really worn them again much since. You look fabulous!

I like this outfit both belted and without! It’s a very pretty outfit with the tiered skirt and lovely shade of green in the sweater. I hear you on the energy issue.

I love to wear a jumper over a dress, but don’t do it that often! Don’t know why, but I will address that. Love this whole combination Nancy, thanks for hosting the linkup. Jacqui x

I have never done this outside my own bedroom because I’m just not long enough for it! But, you look fabulous! I think the deep ribbing at the bottom of the sweater does a wonderful job of showing your slim waist. But, if you feel better with the belt, then you should wear the belt! Thanks so much for the link party, too!

Such a good idea, especially if you have bits of the dress showing. I love the belt with the sweater tucked into it.
Thanks for the link-party, Nancy!

Thanks Sheila, I like that better too!
I’ve done the sweater over a dress in the past, but I need to remember to do it again! I think this is a great solution for some of those short sleeved spring and summer dresses to make them warmer for the winter. Love this combo!

This is a really cute outfit, Nancy! I love that shade of green. It is definitely not reminding me of a Christmas tree! I think i looks great without the belt, but I agree, the belt does give it a little better shape. That preloved necklace is really cool, too. I don’t get that grossed out by preloved jewelry, but you should see what I do to preloved shoes and handbags! They get sprayed with disinfectant and hung on my back fence for about a week before I wear them! Hahaha.
