An androgynous style, I love it. In the eighties, after my punk period, I wore many suits with a blouse and tie. And then with ankle boots with huge heels. When I think back at those days I must laugh. I often wore high heels and in the winter, on the bicycle, you only had tights under a pair of trousers and then your feet were just frozen. And after a day of walking on your heels, your feet were just dead. Then, I was about 18 years old, I did not buy expensive shoes, so there was absolutely no comfort whatsoever. But it was good looking!
Androgynous style on me
Now you can also see a lot of the androgynous style on the catwalks. Just take a look what I have collected on my Pinterest board. I bought this chino with this blue one. I find these trousers very nice because they are shorter, I do not like very long trousers on me. And the chino always gives me a little more buttocks.
How do I translate the androgynous style to me. Of course that is not very difficult. The androgynous look is often a suit with a blouse and tie. It is a masculine style but then for women. I am wearing silver glitter socks that peek a bit above the ankle boots. And grey marble look earrings. A leather snake print bracelet and my Nordgreen watch, that was a gift of Nordgreen a few months ago. When I wore this style more often, I also had several ties. Also broader. Now I only have this one, but I’m going to see if I can score a few new ones. And I’m on the search for a nice suit. With a print, but I have no idea what kind of a print. In any case, the pants must be a chino, with a fitted jacket. I am almost sure that I will not be able to find what I have in mind! Maybe I should have it made by Tessa.

It’s such a cool girl look, Nancy. I loved eighties fashion, and I used to wear large broaches at the collar. Have a great weekend xx

Thank you very much! I love them too, these are pretty old though.
You look very good in androgynous styles Nancy! I have the opposite problem with trousers, I hate it if they’re too short. But you’re taller so cropped trousers suit you better.
Author
Yes and I have thin legs and long trousers make me look even more skinier. Thanks Gail!
Love that outfit. It’s so cute with the narrow tie. I had a maroon tie like that back in the day.
Author
Wear it now! Haha, have a good weekend Julie!
Nancy, I absolutely adore this androgynous look! I remember dressing exactly the way you described in the late 80’s and early 90’s! I even still have some men’s neck ties for exactly this purpose! You and me, my friend, we think so much alike! And these shoes are just magnificent! Reminding me a few similar pairs I have buried somewhere in my mess of a closet.

Those are some serious kick-ass boots! A bit like super hero boots.
I’m a fan of this masculine style. It looks great on you.
Doesn’t your husband have ties you can borrow? My husband has I’m sure over 100 ties in his closet. Lately he has started collecting vintage ties.

Love, love and love some more, Nancy.
I still have some ties that I used to wear. In fact, my mom gave me a black bead tie too, and she keeps bugging me to wear it. I’ll have to do that with your inspiration!!

This is such a fun look, Nancy! Your ankle booties are so chic. I remember doing an androgynous look a couple (or so) years ago. Loved it!

I love this suit with tie look. You nailed it with your pointy boots. I am a shortie so this look with bootie would look nice on me since it will elongate my legs. The colors you choose are bold and I believe it completes the look.

I love this androgynous look on you Nancy! The heeled boots look great with it. I quite fancy the idea of going to a ball in a tuxedo suit instead of a long dress, just to shake things up a bit!

I love your take on androgynous style—I feel like this look has hints of David Bowie, which I love!

Oh yes!David Bowie! Thanks Cheryl!
I sometimes wore a similar style in the 80s – after I was a punk 😉 – and as I had short hair, people sometimes thought I was a boy 🙂 I love your modern take on this look! If you’re looking for more ties, a cheap option would be to look in the “kringloopwinkels”. Ours here in Belgium usually have masses of them! xxx
Author
Yes that of course is an idea! We have actually one a few minutes walk from here! I would love to see a photo of you as a punk!
You look so adorable, is there a look you can’t pull off? I never went through the androgynous phase–I think I was too busy being corporate.
Author
Oh there are a lot of looks that I can’t pull off! But thanks Kim!
Fun look! I had a pair of similar boots I picked up in Spain my senior year of high school… That’s a pair I wish I had kept, but the heel was so high, I don’t actually think I could walk in them now. But they were lovely! A real work of art. Sigh.
Author
These were higher too but I took them to the shoe maker and he chopped of a bit of the heel!
Wow Nancy, you can kind of wear everything and look good in it. I love this somewhat masculine style, especially with your curly womanly hair as a counterbalance. Top for the days that aren’t winter nor spring! Love, Lieske

Love this look. Reminds me so much of Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. She is one of my style inspirations. And so are you! In my younger days, I have worn a tie a time or two. I like them as belts or sashes, too. Truly you look fantastic!!
Author
Thank you very much Leslie! You are always so very kind!
I don’t think I’ve ever worn an actual tie, but I love those tie blouses that have been trendy lately and I love this tie sort of menswear look on you! And… those lace up boots with heels, just lovely!!

This is a cool outfit Nancy. I love the addition of the neck tie to elevate the outfit into a more masculine look. I remember using wearing a neck tie when it was popular back in the day and I found it awesome. I thought it was just me but so glad to know I wasn’t.

I love this style on you Nancy! Those boots were the perfect complimenting piece for sure and that tie. Such a great get up!

Yes, I remember feeling quite comfortable in androgynous styling in the past. I think that is why is still go to trousers and jeans so much. I feel mostly androgenous at work sadly due to the corporate style so counteract that by wearing a skirt most days. Thank you for linking up

Just loving this androgynous look on you, Nancy! It’s a look I do frequently too – it’s the nice contrast between the female and the male, isn’t it? I adore your granny boots – I had a purple pair like that in the 80s!
