Something I have never worn, and never liked, are glitter and sequins. Probably because I’ve never seen it styled in a way I like. And it made me think of Christmas. But since Corona I have a bit more time and I learned a bit more about what to wear and how. Actually, I started doing that since we took pictures of this skirt and dress. When I wanted to edit the photos I thought: how could I have worn that skirt like this. It really made no sense and so I had to throw away two series of photos. And had to do it all over again! I had already said here that taking photos is quite strenuous for me. So I was very disappointed and knew I had to do something.
How I started wearing glitter and sequins
I started reading more about which clothing suits your figure and length and which colors are right. That has made me wiser. But in a different way. I started to think about it and found what people said about your height and weight etc. very relative. And then I thought, but take a good look at yourself. I always advice that to others, take a good look in the mirror and look at what you don’t like. And I don’t mean about your body, but about your outfit.
Don’t take anything for granted. You have to be perfectly happy with all aspects of the look you are wearing. My thought of both of those failed outfits were: well I don’t like it but don’t know how to style it differently. Then don’t wear it! If you are not loving it, change it. And if you don’t have the inspiration to style it differently, wear something that you know will look and feel good in. And a few days later you will find inspiration again. So only wear an outfit if you are completely happy with it, otherwise it will do nothing for you!
Back to the outfit of the day with some glitter
Because I was searching on the internet I came across Trinny Woodall. Also because several bloggers love her makeup. But I find her a huge source of inspiration in terms of clothing. And because of her I now wear some more glitter and sequins. I already loved shiny ankle boots, and I still don’t have sequins, but I will look for a perfect sequin top! So back to this skirt. A kind of metal skirt, a bit of glitter. And how are you going to style it.
The simplest way is to wear a t shirt, a leather jacket and white sneakers. I’m telling you, I wouldn’t know what to do without my white sneakers. This way you create a casual outfit with glitter that lifts your mood. I wouldn’t wear this skirt any other way I guess. I mean I could show you this with a blazer, blouse and heels. And then it’s a total different look. But I would never wear it like that. This skirt is made for a tee and sneakers!

that is such a great statement skirt on you! And I agree, if you find you don’t like an outfit, you can always keep the piece you don’t like and try it again in a different outfit later! 🙂
Hope that you are having a nice week and have a lovely weekend ahead of you 🙂

Thank you very much Tina!
I have been a bit baffled but glitzy clothing too. But your outfit looks great! I’m thinking of adding sequins to a mask, but I don’t want to compromise its effectiveness.

I like a small amount of either Nancy. But glitter and trainers? Such a cool combination! I think it looks great xx

Thanks Laurie, didn’t want to make it to fancy!
I love glitter and sequins, glad you found a way to try it and like it! I am a huge Trinny fan as well – used to love watching What Not to Wear with Trinny and Susannah, in fact I have one of their books. I’ll have to check out her make up!

I’m not exactly a glitter and sequins girl either, but I wouldn’t mind having that skirt in my wardrobe. I love how you styled it with that graphic t-shirt and amazing leather jacket. I agree that you have to feel good in what you’re wearing. For me it has to be just right as well. I’m often happy with my outfit, but then it takes ages until I’m happy with the accessories, which I keep changing around until it looks good in the mirror! xxx

I usually wear minimum of accessories so I don’t have that problem. And almost always gold to add a bit of warmth!
I love a bit of glitter at Christmas time but I love it that you break the rules. looks fabulous!

I love it! What a perfect way to style it! That is exactly I would wear it! Going to try that with a rainbow pleated skirt I have: I do not wear it much but I think it would work great like this.

OMG, Nancy, I love this outfit so much! I have a similar skirt that I haven’t worn yet. I think I may need to copy! I agree with you that if an outfit doesn’t make you feel great, why even wear it? Have a fabulous weekend, my friend.

Great words of wisdom Nancy. I do think we can usually find ways that a piece can work for us. And sparkles and bling are always good!!

I guess we all have fashion items or items of clothing that we have never tried due to the fact that we see other people style it in ways we do not like. That skirt looks good on you.

I agree, Nancy, that skirt is made for the way you styled it! SO cute with the sneakers and tee and leather jacket! And you are so right that if an outfit doesn’t make you feel good, don’t wear it! I’ve done that before and don’t ever want to again feel like I wish I’d worn something different! Have a great weekend, my friend.

This is one of my favorite ways to style a fancy skirt, whether it be sequins or tulle…paired with a graphic tee & sneakers. The casualness plays perfectly off of the fanciness. And I absolutely agree that if you don’t feel fabulous in something then you shouldn’t wear it!

My denim blouse you mean? Ankle boots or longer once Liz?
Definitely yes! I’m not a big friend of glitter myself, but the cool combination with this glitter skirt is amazing. You look stunning!

Thanks! This was the first time I wore glitters!
Oh dear, late to the party – I missed it. I love your shiny, glittery skirt, Nancy! I have a similar one in sequins, and it’s so fun to wear! I used to be a bit chicken to try stuff like that, but I’m well past it now (ha). I love “toughening” up girly items with leather – yeah, woman! You look badass in this. Rock on, Nancy!

I always thought sequins and glitters were so frumpy. What did I know right!
