I did not have planned to buy this white blouse dress, I actually looked at the h&m site for a new bikini, and nothing else. But yes I came across this blouse dress and couldn’t resist. And why not? No idea. Because I never wear white! In addition, this blouse dress shines through gigantic and I also have no idea how I will wear it! Nice example of impulsive purchases. In any case, the bikini was a good size! But only when I returned it twice!! What’s it with sizing these days? (btw, I think I wore the bikini twice, due to the bad summer!)
White blouse dress, definitely only suitable for a beach day.
Of course I had bought this white blouse dress with a lovely long warm summer in mind, but that didn’t happen and I didn’t wear it once during this summer. So my idea of a tank top and sandals with the white dress didn’t work. I think gray and white is a nice combination, so I thought I’d wear a gray cardigan over it.
But because I hadn’t tried the dress on when I received it either, there was now of course the surprise of having a look in your head and that it then turns out completely different. The blouse is to long, to thin, to loose. Totally unsuitable to wear in the fall. It’s really more like a, we’re going to the beach and I’m going to throw something over my bikini, dress.
How I styled this white blouse dress.
Anyway, I wanted to try the white dress blouse with jeans. Yay, I have two now! I do like the look of cropped jeans and ankle boots and a long cardigan. I wear a wide belt over the cardigan to create a little definition and golden accessories! But while I don’t think this outfit is wrong, it’s not my style at all. It was nice to try it out and I also felt comfortable in it, but I don’t think it flatters myself. So this dress is going back in the closet and will be coming out again next year….perhaps….probarbly not.
What I do find a bit strange is that with a blouse that is so thin, it does have long sleeves. Well with very nice cuffs anyway. I always find it just as weird as a turtleneck without sleeves. If it’s so cold that I want to wear a turtleneck, I also want long sleeves! Do you understand? But this is actually not quite a blouse dress either, because no buttons up to the hem. So what is it actually? A tunic? A dress. Doesn’t matter, this white blouse dress won’t become my favorite!
I would love it if you would share your outfits with #nancysfashionstyle and tag @nancysstyle! Thanks!

I think you’ve layered it well here and made it work really nicely for cooler weather! I agree it will be a fun cover up at the beach too, hopefully you get to wear it like that next summer when it is warmer 🙂
Thank you for the link up!

You’ve made a super outfit with the oversized blouse! Brilliant with a long cardigan.

Thanks Gail, although it is not a favorite of mine!
Story of my life, I go to a site or a store to buy one thing and leave with something else entirely! Ha! I really like that white blouse dress – the cuffs are my favorite. I think you styled it well! Hopefully next summer you can wear it too!
Thanks for the link up and I hope you and Gerben have a wonderful weekend!

Love how you styled this chic look! I don’t think I could pull off a dress over jeans but need to try it. What a great way to take the dress into fall!

Love this Belted cardigan style! Belts are such a good way to pull the whole outfit together!
Oh, my goodness Nancy, you tell such funny stories about your clothes. I can picture this as a summer dress the way you describe it, but I love the creative way you came up with styling it for cooler weather too. I love those jeans. I don’t own any like that. I should try a pair on.
H&M often come up with these little gems Nancy. You will wear that for many years to come xx
I think this looks is fantastic but I understand if it is not you, you won’t wear it! I have learned a few things with some of my bad purchases this year, thankfully I make less and less bad decisions. I know what you are saying about having a look in mind: it doesn’t always work out or look how you expect.

OMG, Nancy, I know you said that this wasn’t your style of outfit at all, but it is definitely mine! I freaking love it and would wear this whole outfit in a heartbeat. I kind of want a cool long white blouse dress like this now! The dress over the cropped jeans looks super cool and ankle booties are the best footwear for this look. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

I totally get what you’re saying.. but I do like long sleeve items that are nice and thin for summer wear as my skin is real sensitive to sun. I’ve also worn sleeveless turtlenecks though so I guess you can’t go by me! LOL.
Hi Nancy!
Love the layering here and the different proportions! The grey long cardi looks wonderful belted.
I am looking for a long knit vest! The white dress is so verstaile!

I have been wondering about sizes too, lately. There really isn’t a standard these days, is there?
All things considered, your layered look is not bad at all, but I’m hearing you on outfits you’ve created in your head not working out in real life 🙂 xxx
I think you look quite chic in this outfit, but if you don’t feel good about it, that changes things, doesn’t it? It would make a nice nightgown.

I like your choice of grey and white here, Nancy–your layering is perfect for fall weather!
I hope you have a great weekend!

That white shirtdress is such a classic and a totally great buy! It’s such a versatile piece, and the way you styled it here with all the layers is so unexpected. I think you’re going to get a lot of wear out of it!

That shirtdress is a classic example of fast fashion – it’s cheaply made, thin and doesn’t work with your closet. I’m so proud of you for trying it anyway, Nancy! I love that you layered a long cardi (belted! impressed!) to show off the dress’ best feature: the cuffs. It’s a great outfit anyway, even if you’re not feeling the dress (I would sell it).
BTW, due to my increased work schedule, I have to cut back on my blog time so link-ups are the thing I skip – thank you for having them, though!

Hi, Nancy – You look so cool in this outfit! And my eye was attracted right away to the long white blouse, wanting to know more about it. You styled it perfectly here. I’ll bet if you think about it creatively, you could come up with all sorts of new ways to wear it. I hope you get a little more enjoyment out of it. – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

I saw this on IG and commented that I think it works well and looks great on you, Nancy!! I actually prefer a thinner fabric on my blouses but that’s just me. I hate it when I have a picture in mind for a piece and it doesn’t look the way I wanted at all, so I totally get it. It’s fun to step outside our comfort zone, though, isn’t it? Have a nice weekend.

I am glad you like it Laura, thank you.
I think you did a great job styling this long shirt. Even though it’s not what you expected you’ve made it work. I always questioned the logic of sleeveless turtleneck jumpers too – they make no sense! I hope you’re feeling better now.

I do see what you mean about the thin material versus long sleeves. Very weird. But your outfit looks good! You did very well with this odd item of clothing. And I have done what you did – order something and not try it on right away, only to find it wasn’t suitable. Ugh!

Thanks Jacqui!
Despite all the problems you see with the dress, I think it looks fabulous the way you’ve styled it, Nancy! But I can totally understand what you mean. I am often flummoxed why they make things a certain way, like such a thin dress with long sleeves! I’ve thrown away several turtle necks with no sleeves over the years, because it’s either too hot or too cold!

Yes those are the weirdest items aren’t they! Well, we make it work! Thank you Suzy!
This is so cute! It’s great how you took a summer dress (or whatever it is!) and turned it into a chic fall outfit!

That white shirt dress works so well as a tunic. Would be cute with patterned hose or tights, too. I have been looking for a white shirt dress. Need to check yours out. Thanks for joining us for #agelessstyle.
