We are in the middle of all the festivities weeks of the month December. Did you have a wonderful Christmas? And are you looking forward to saying goodbye to 2020 and welcoming the new year? I always find the day after January 1st such a downer. Everything is over then. What about those boring months? January and February. But hey, we are now used to boring months aren’t we.
What have we done in this festivity week
- Fish salad, I had capers, horseradish and dill mayonaise on the side.
- My presents!
- The neighbors chickens in our garden.
The beginning of the week was still a bit busy with arranging all kinds of things. Administrative things, things that do not run smoothly and that linger too long. I hate that. I want to be able to check things off. But on Thursday the time had finally come. Gerben was still late from work, but once at home we could celebrate the start of the holidays. Gerben has days off until January 4th.
In the evening we made a delicious fish salad and eaten comfortably on the couch in front of the telly, with a bottle of rosé. On Christmas Day, no one came and we didn’t go anywhere. Had a long breakfast and unpacked the presents. I got earrings and a book that I had selected myself. Normally we go shopping for original presents. Gerben received a barbeque book and a meat thermometer.
With all these festivities comes a lot of food
- We had carpaccio as a starter on Christmas day.
- For main we had potato croquettes, apple compote and pork tenderloin with herb crust and mustard sauce.
- And for dessert a cheese platter.
And now he is still in need of the barbeque! That’s one of those things that stay put for too long. We have already ordered a barbeque three times and then it says on the site that they have it in stock, and then they don’t have it. And then you receive an email afterwards that it will come in February. Yes bye, so canceled again, wait for your money back and order somewhere else. Now he buys one in the shop when they reopen.
In the evening we made a delicious menu for the two of us which we really enjoyed. On the second Christmas day we went to see my father and his wife. That was also very cozy and again we had a delicious meal. That were the festivities for this week. Sunday was another relaxed day, sat inside all day because it really stormed outside. I started to read the booklet of the new car, otherwise I don’t know how everything works in a year’s time. We ate pizza, fresh and homemade of course, with a lot of vegetables. Wasn’t even that hungry! How was your festivity week?
- And on Wednesday my new jeans and a King Louie blouse.
- I wore a little black dress on Christmas Eve.
I wish you all a happy New Year’s Eve and all the best for the new year. On New Year’s Day the Fancy Friday linkup party will be open ……..sorry about last week.
Would really appreciate it if you would share my photos on Pinterest.
I remember reading that you never wore jeans much but seems I am seeing you in them more often lately. And girl, you wear them so well!! Love that you are wearing them. So comfy. And can be very stylish and dressy, too, especially the way you style them.
Your Christmas dinner looks and sounds divine. I am done with ham and turkey – our traditional fare – for awhile. In fact, I don’t feel much like cooking anything. Not sure what New Year’s Eve will look like…maybe a charcuterie board.

Thank you!
We spent time at my mom’s last week, including Christmas. None of us are that into the holidays, except as an opportunity to see my step-daughter and her boyfriend, but that’s not happening this year. I’m glad Gerben is off for a good while!

Oh Jodie it really is awful. We now ordered 3 and none of them can be delivered! So now Gerben will wait for the shops to open again and see if they have any in the shops. I have to say, he is looking for a particular one….
Nothing much to celebrate here, as we cannot invite people nor can we go into other people’s homes. We spent Christmas with just the two of us, but went for a lovely walk on Christmas day. And we will be meeting my friend and her husband for a walk and to say goodbye to 2020 on Thursday.
I do know what you mean about Jan. 2. I always have that feeling too, although this year might be different.
Love the sight of your Christmas dinner and yay for potato croquettes!
I’ll say it again, but that Paisley print dress is absolutely fabulous! xxx

Thanks, I like that dress a lot because the colors are so beautiful. I hope that on January the 2nd we feel joyful because in 2021 we can go traveling again, at least I think so. Somewhere in the end of summer probably.
Your Christmas feast sounds fabulous! Can I join you for New Year’s?

Yes, come on over Liz! We save you a plate!
Merry Christmas and wishing you an early Happy New Year, Nancy! It sounds like you and Gerben had a nice quiet day, and your food always looks amazing. I love your outfits too – very chic.

Thank you Sheila! I am very happy we got to know each other a bit better this last year! Have a fabulous New Years Eve!
We spent Christmas with my daughters and their families and now we are in LOCKDOWN again so January will be quiet. But we look after our grandchildren some days so we will be seeing them. I did dress up for Christmas Day, but otherwise I am staying very casual. Happy New Year Nancy.

Oh I am glad you get to see your grandchildren. At least that is something! Have a great New Years Eve!
The neighbors chickens in your garden made me giggle! I get such a kick out of any wandering animals. In the early fall, we had a deer that would hang out in our back yard, then she would go across the street to the neighbor’s house and eat from their bird feeder. When I would step outside to get a better look at her, she would take off trotting down the sidewalk in my neighborhood like a dog or a cat would! So funny! It sounds like you and Gerben had the perfect quiet holiday at home with lots of amazing food! Thanks for sharing all these bits and pieces of your holidays with us! Happy New Year!

Haha, that is far more interesting then some arrogant chickens! Because they are arrogant, really. They look at you as if they say: no food? Then place stay out of my space!
