And another week passed. Geez, we’re almost in August already. What a depressing thought. Let’s talk about the weather. I really hate winter. The cold, the short days, the much more time spending inside. And we’ve actually had such a bad summer, let alone a bad and cold spring. And although the temperature has been nice and warm for a few weeks now, it is often cloudy and it rains regularly. Very nice for the garden because everything blooms enormously, the weeds also grow vigorously. But I wish summer would last for many more months.
Enjoying the weather by cycling
- Cycling over the dikes,
- and looking at the flood.
- View from where we had lunch.
- Lots of water fowl.
Do you have any plans for the holiday? Abroad or not? That is still the question here. May or may not. Corona still keeps us in its grip, even though we are vaccinated. We do often meet up with friends and family now, still keeping distance of course. We feel good about that, meeting up that is. But to go somewhere where there are a lot of people, it just doesn’t feel right. I think at some point you have to let go of that, what do you think? Or is it just not an issue for you anymore?
Last week, in addition to the usual things, I enjoyed cycling with Denise. And of course we had lunch, that’s part of it. The water in the rivers is very high and the floodplains were flooded. So we cycled over the dikes, because that is a beautiful sight. (Of course the flood was horrible in Germany and Belgium. That’s a totall different story) But you couldn’t go on many bicycle paths because of the high water. Furthermore, there was not much special last week, just enjoying the weather by reading outside.
Lots of good food at the weekend
- I had a healthy Greek salad for lunch.
- Denise and I.
- And a not so healthy desert.
Saturday we went out for dinner with friends, which was very nice to do again. It’s been a year since we have been out for dinner with them. On Sunday Gerben made pork belly on the barbeque and a friend came over to eat with us. We had barely finished eating when it started to thunder and rain. Quickly cleared everything and settled on the lounge set where you can sit very well when it rains! Just enjoyed the rest of te evening and we even saw the owl!
- We made burgers on Friday night.
- With bacon, spinach, tomatoes and dragom mayonaise.
- Pork belly. Slow cooked.
- Eating outside is the best,
- but not when it starts to rain!
Have a great week all!
I would love it if you would share your outfits with #nancysfashionstyle and tag @nancysstyle! Thanks!

Thank you
Our weather has been pretty normal for summer here, hot and humid with the occasional rainstorm. Thankfully it has not bothered the kids’ tennis so at least they have had some exercise this summer. We finally are biking more too. I love that first dress you are wearing! Very pretty! Our patio allows us to still be outdoors when it is raining as long as the rain is not too crazy and sideways!

Indeed, we have that too with our patio. And I even bought a television to watch in the evening! Did you buy a rack for the bicycles then?
I am so sad that it’s nearly August! I love summer and want time to slow down a bit. We’ve been having quite a bit of rain too but I guess it could be worse as much of the western part of our country is battling wildfires. Bad enough that the smoke from them is causing haziness all the way in Eastern New England!
Both your healthy salad and your not so healthy dessert look delicious.

THose wildfires are so awfull! Can’t imagine how distroying that is. Thanks Joanne!
If you come to live with us, you’d have summer until October…at least with the warmer temperatures!! I still miss the longer days as well.
Love that clear belt in the first photo Nancy!!

Love your dress Nancy. We had a heatwave for several weeks…now rain…. But that dessert has strawberries..so it is HEALTHY…
Author
Haha, yes Hilda I thought that too! Lol.
You’re so lucky you get to see an owl! How fun! All the food sounded and looked delish…especially that dessert. I have been to some bigger gatherings but stay pretty close to home most of the time. I need to have some friends over. It’s been too long!

It is! I am so glad that we finally can invite them again!
Such a cute boho dress on you, Nancy! Great styling!
Covid rates in my province are going up, but it’s 75% people who haven’t been vaccinated at all (arg!) who are the new cases, so we are pushing now to get folks jabbed. I am more comfortable wearing a mask indoors still, as the Delta variant is much more transmissible than the original. We’ve been seeing friends, but I’m just getting so worn out from all of this.
I will trade your rain for our drought! We have another heatwave (temps into the mid-30s) coming this week, and haven’t had any rain in months. The wildfires are raging…
Author
Yes I saw it on the telly. Thais so bad, those fires. But also that so many people haven’t been vaccinated yet!
That blue dress is so cute!!

Thank you very much!
I am sorry that your weather has not been great. The weather here in Chicago can be pretty unpredictable but it has been really nice here this summer. I am glad that you had a nice time with friends and that barbecue looks delicious. My husband and I started going out again in May after we were officially immunized. It feels great to see our friends and my parents again, but we are still very cautious. We wear a mask almost everywhere ( I don’t wear one at work but I do every where else) and we really try hard to avoid places that are very crowded. Anyway! Your dress is also really cute and I hope that you are having a good week so far! XO, Caroline
Author
Thank you Caroline. Yes I also wear a mask where it doesn’t feel safe. And we also avoid crowds, didn’t like that anyway. The only crowds we like are at festivals and that is not going to happen this year!
We had pretty much ditched the masks and had gone into restaurants, but with Las Vegas being a tourist town, and so many American who are anti-vax, our local positivity rate is over 14%. We started wearing our masks again indoors. On Friday our state has mandated that masks are required inside.

I think it’s better to use masks when you cant keep distance, even if you are vaccinated!
What a beautiful dress, Nancy. Love this 🙂

Thanks Claire!
I love the view of the flooded floodplains from the dikes, but indeed the floods in Germany and the south of Belgium were horrible indeed. So many people have lost their homes, their possession, some of them even their lives. It does show that you simply cannot win against the forces of nature!
Can’t believe it’s almost August either …
We’ll be holidaying in Belgium for the time being and in fact we’ll be going away for a couple of days next week. We are staying at a B&B near Bruges but I doubt whether we’ll be visiting Bruges itself this time. I’m not comfortable with crowded places either, and I don’t think that will change any time soon … xxx
Author
Indeed. I don’t see myself in crowded places soon, well we never liked that anyway! Have a great holiday Ann!
The pork belly looks delicious! Yes we have had the same weather here. Wonderful last week, when I was on holiday, then floods at the weekend and grey colder weather this week. No plans to go abroad this summer but I have a month off in November and would love to go to S America if possible. Thanks for linking

Perhaps you can then Gail. I can’t wait to go to the UK again, it has been two years already and I am so homesick!
