I often get inspired by a outfit in a magazine or on pinterest. And then I style myself to that outfit, trying to copy it, and I’m almost always not satisfied with it. What is that? I feel the same when I look in the mirror, not even talking about my hair and makeup, and check my outfit. There is always something I am not happy about. Never 100% happy. Like this outfit for example. I was super happy with it, very simple, but I like that. And when I saw it again on the blog, I thought: a short necklace could have been added. You see, not completely satisfied. Ever.
Inspired by, but I am not her!
Why am I not happy with this look? Or well, not happy, I like it but it looks different than I had hoped. But that’s probably because the person I was inspired by is a model, and therefore looks beautiful anyway. (and is 30 years younger….)
Is that it then? That you think something like that looks just as great on you? Or are most women, or let me just speak for myself, not quickly, read never, satisfied? I am quite happy with my makeup. Oh yes, it could be much better. But I never use foundation or powders or anything like that, as that irritates my skin too much and I just don’t like it. And I have very few colors that look good on my face.
So I always use the same eye makeup and I choose from about 5 lipsticks. And I am pretty happy with that. My hair is a different story. I am never satisfied with that. Especially now in the menopause, the curls are just gone. And I’ve been used to big curly hair all my life. So basically I should just blow dry it nice and smooth after washing, but I can’t get used to that. But yes, those saggy dry curls are not a good look either. Sigh.
Let’s just talk about the inspired look
The look I actually wanted to create was a feminine tough look. Did I manage to do that? Not a rhetorical question. I like the tee very much. Just from H&M, not from a concert. Although I did see the Stones 5 years ago. The skirt is pre-loved and I’ve had the sandals for a few years now and they are so comfortable! And although this inspired look was a bit disappointing, I do feel great in it. And that’s what it’s all about in the end! Btw, I am not happy with the lighting of these photo’s at all……I should have waited half a hour until the sun just turned a bit. You see……never completely satisfied.

Definitely succeeded with feminine/tough! I go through the same self- criticism as you. My hair, is it too blonde, too staid? Am I looking fat, wrinkly? Does the garden look tatty? Is the lighting bad? We should try to be kinder to ourselves. But not sure I ever will be!

Oh gosh, yes we should! But I don’t think we will! Lol. Have a great weekend!
I think this looks fabulous Nancy. And you’ve achieved what you wanted. Funny how we see ourselves isn’t it? I often try and create that cool girl look and it’s awful on me! xx

Haha, we are so critical about ourselves right? Have a good weekend Laurie!
I think you accomplished the edgy vibes! I heard the song “Satisfied” from Hamilton in my head when I started reading your post. Lol! I love the piled on bracelets. Thanks so much for the link up Nancy!

It gets really sunny here and can be difficult with pictures. I really like how your look turned out. I have several things that I should donate as I bought them (2nd hand) thinking I could do the whole oversized look but I really don’t like it on me! Looks good on skinny young gals! Those sandals are one of my favorite of yours.

Love this look on you, Nancy I think you captured your inspiration! As women, we are so critical of ourselves. I remind myself daily to be as kind to myself as I am to others, a difficult task but worth it!

Haha, that’s a good one! Thanks Di!
I think it’s a fabulous look and sometimes we think there should be a right and wrong which gets us into that thinking of not being happy with it.
Yet in all reality there are so many versions of perfect! And you are perfect as is Nancy!!

I am often quite – no, that’s an understatement: very – critical with my appearance, and particularly so when I’m in a low mood. The menopause isn’t any help either. I don’t think that any of us – regardless of age or size – should ever try to emulate a model’s looks. That’s just impossible to achieve! And who wants to be perfect anyway. Wouldn’t that just be boring? Nevertheless, I love the black skirt and Stones tee-shirt look on you.
xxx P.S. I don’t think the email thing is working anymore … not sure what to do about that. I’m linking my latest blog post on Facebook and try to remember to do it on Instagram too … I’ve just done one, if you’re interested 🙂 xxx

I don’t ever want to be perfect! Haha. Yes Sheila explained it as she also has a Blogger blog. I am going to read your post tonight. And add it to my phone!
I love this rock & roll look on you, Nancy! You look fabulous! I seldom have that issue – I usually like my outfits. When I don’t, I just move on, let it go, and look forward to the next ensemble.
Thanks so much for the link-party!

I wished I was like that!!
I think you look fabulous and definitely succeeded with what you were going for. I’m not sure why it is that all of us women seem so much harder on ourselves than we ever are with our friends or other women. I too tend to not love the way an outfit looks or my hair or some part of my body that I wish were better.

Haha, isn’t it so awfull what we are doing to ourselves! Men don’t seem to have that problem!
I am very satisfied with your look Nancy! 💕

Nancy you wear this so well and you inspire me! If I had that flat tummy and thin midsection like you do, I’d copy lots of your looks! And I LOVE your hair!

Oh thank you so very much Kellyann! You made my day!
I know what you mean about never being completely satisfied with an outfit. But — a necklace might have been a distraction on that super-bold Rolling Stones t-shirt!. The entire look is great fun!
Thanks for hosting the link-up.

I love that look and it suits you, it’s edgy and cool and very you! Oh, my, word, you saw the Stones five years ago. I saw them when I was about 17, that’s nearly 60 years ago. Wow says a lot about my age but also says a lot about the Stones! Are they the longest lasting group ever? They must be!
Thanks, great post and thanks for hosting – have a good weekend X

And look at how they perform these days! With so much energy and joy! It’s amazing. A band to have respect for!
Oh my goodness, I love this tough feminine look on you! You definitely created that vibe perfectly. But I hear you on the never being satisfied. I always find little things I could have added or eliminated to m outfits better after I have taken all the photos! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend.

Indeed! As if we look differently at the photo then in the mirror!
I think this is definitely a feminine tough look! And, I think you look fabulous in it! I get why you like to wear black so much…you look sooooo good in it! But, I also know we see all of the flaws when we look at our own pictures. I think it’s human nature to do that! Oh, well! Thanks, Nancy, for the link party!

Very cool tee shirt! and I see you have a red lip too! Looks great with the look as does the strappy black sandals. You really do wear black so well. I have done that before, have in mind what i want, and then pictures may not depict it totally.
Enjoy your day!

Yes you saw that right Jess! A red lip! Have a great start of the week!
I love this outfit Nancy! The T-shirt looks fabulous with the skirt and sandals. I’m very rarely completely happy with my photos but if I say so Pete thinks I’m criticising his photography. I say “oh no, it’s just my face/hair/ creased clothes etc” but he doesn’t believe me!

Haha you better say nothing otherwise you lose a photographer!
It’s a fabulous outfit, Nancy! I think it fits your sassy personality perfectly. But I understand what you mean about looking at the photos. It seems I am never quite satisfied. Sometimes, it’s because I’ve missed something about the outfit, and it doesn’t look like I’d hoped. And sometimes it’s because I think my expressions are goofy, or I could have chosen a better spot, or…., and on and on. Hope you have had a wonderful weekend!
