Hi all! It is such a great pleasure to guest post for my dear friend Nancy today while she is on holiday. So I asked myself, what would Nancy wear? First I want to introduce myself in case you don’t know me. I am Shelbee of the blog Shelbee on the Edge. Nancy and I began our blogs right around the same time (I just celebrated my 6 year anniversary of blogging) and we quickly connected and became fast friends very early on.
I remember back at the end of 2016 after I had been blogging for only about a year (and that first year was a slow one with very few posts), Nancy had reached out to me to see if I was interested in collaborating with her on a monthly blog series. I, of course, agreed and in February of 2017, we launched our series The Bad Buy Book where we invited readers to share some of their worst purchases based on a chosen monthly theme.
We ran that series for one year but were struggling with participation since lots of people don’t photograph their worst purchases. So we expanded the series to include both good buys and bad buys and launched The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book in February of 2018. This coming February will mark 5 years total that I have been collaborating with Nancy between these two series.
Then in September of 2020, I teamed up with Nancy and 4 other bloggers for our monthly Thrifty Six collaboration where we share preloved items based on a specified theme. At the same time, I also was invited to join the Stylish Monday group with Nancy and 13 other international fashion bloggers for a monthly style collaboration.
With 4 monthly collaborations and 5 years of history working together, I have interacted a lot with Nancy via comments, emails, and most recently Zoom calls. We connected in a very strong way before we ever spoke face to face. And now that we schedule frequent Zoom calls, I look forward to the time spent in visual conversation with this amazing woman.
Our first Zoom call we scheduled for an hour and half and quickly learned that two and a half hours fly by so quickly that we had to adjust our scheduling. And when we do get talking, there is no topic off limits! Haha. Oh, how we laugh, too. I am so freaking blessed to have Nancy in my life that I don’t even have the proper words to express my gratitude. (Hey, maybe those are the proper words right there!)
What would Nancy wear?
But since this is a fashion blog and it’s all about Nancy’s Fashion Style, I have to also share some fashion. When I was deciding what outfit to wear for this post, I immediately asked myself, “What would Nancy wear?” Granted I am a very loud advocate for wearing what you love and remaining authentic to your own personal sense of style. However, I am also a self proclaimed style chameleon and really do love all different genres in fashion. I love to draw inspiration from all around me…from nature, art, film, food, and fashion bloggers.
My first inclination was to style a wrap dress because that style is one of Nancy’s favorites. But it is not a style that flatters me so I don’t have very many wrap dresses at all. So I quickly abandoned that idea and recalled this navy blue dandelion print skirt and top coordinated set. (I think it is a dandelion print, but I am not totally certain.) I have had this set for at least 5 years and have never worn the pieces together.
Outfit à la Nancy
The shirt is a little too boxy on me after my recent weight loss so I tied it at the waist to give it some definition. I added my Ralph Lauren engineer striped denim jacket which was thrifted and a pair of navy blue ankle boots. I accessorized with a camel colored bag, blue and white gingham earrings, my mother’s daisy brooch, and a dandelion seed necklace. I love this outfit as we begin to transition into the fall season. It is lightweight enough for warm weather but the colors are very autumn inspired.
What do you all think? Would Nancy wear this outfit? I think she would!
Thank you so much, Nancy, for allowing me to share my thoughts and style in your blog space. I hope you have the most wonderful holiday and I look forward to chatting about it on our next Zoom call!
Nancy: Thank you so much my dear friend! What a honor that you dressed like I would have! What a fabulous friendship we have!

What a fun little read down memory lane of how you ladies connected. One of the best parts of blogging has been meeting new people. I love how you pulled this style together and the print in this outfin. Great score on the little booties too, I have a similar pair and they get a ton of use.

I know you made Nancy proud!! Darling matching skirt and top set. I like the wispy dandelion print. And those navy booties!! Yes!!! Great transition look for this time of year.
I remember reading that you gals had become fast friends and were now even Facetiming or talking and seeing each other at the same time…wasn’t sure of the format. Nancy is a pretty amazing lady. She seems to have boundless energy despite her health issues. So glad you have become such close friends and can be there for each other.
You are looking especially fabulous. Your hair has gotten so long. And you look fit and fine as a fiddle.
Oh, heck yes, Nancy would wear this! You show your deep friendship by knowing instinctively what to wear from your own closet that pays homage to Nancy. I’m privileged to have Zoomed with both of you! And yes, the time goes by so fast!
I really loved hearing about how you met and hadn’t realized you’d known each other for so long!
Thanks so much for the link-party!

It’s so wonderful to hear you and Nancy connected Shelbee! And I love that you decided to style an outfit based on what Nancy would wear. It’s brilliant! Needless to say, you look fabulous! Tying the boxy top was a fab idea and makes the whole look quite special. You look fabulous! Love your hair like that, all wavy at the back.
Nancy, I hope you’re having an amazing holiday!

I do think this an outfit Nancy would wear, so well done Shelbee. I also loved reading about how you two connected in the wonderful world of blogging! xxx
Nancy does tend to prefer the dark colors, so I think she would approve! She is such an awesome, fun person. It’s cool that you both started blogging about the same time.

Oh thank you so much Michelle!
I just had the chance to read through all of these wonderful comments and I was tempted to respond to each one individually, but I didn’t want you to get bombarded with comment notifications! Haha. I am so honored and flattered by all of the lovely feedback here! And now I am going to use this outfit and link back to this post for my post tomorrow…because I am simply out of motivation!
