Is fashion addictive? Hell yes! In my life at least.
I’ll explain it to you. Just like a lot of other bloggers, I have always loved clothes and especially shoes since childhood. As a toddler I already knew exactly that I wanted black patent shoes. And later, in puberty, I knew exactly in my head what kind of clothing I wanted to buy. Often it wasn’t to be found anywhere in the shops, just in my head.
Fashion is addictive, already when I was a child
I had a time in my life, when I was in my early 20’s, that I had a very good and cheap tailor who made exactly what I had in my head. He draw it while I explained what I wanted. That was amazing. I wish I had pictures of those clothes. I remember exactly what he made for me and what it looked like. I still remember I bought fabulous fabric and amazing buttons. Oh sigh….
Is it wrong to be addicted to fashion?
Since I have my blog, my clothing style has expanded a lot because I now wear prints and also color. Previously I only wore black. I still feel the best in black, it is so cool and so beautiful. But I no longer need black every day. Every season I intend to think carefully about what clothing I want to buy. And every time I always tell myself that I will only buy quality clothing. But you guessed it by now, fashion is addictive.
Every time I fall into the trap of fashion. And fast fashion. Then I see one style after another, and I think, oh yes I want that too. And I don’t have that skirt in that color yet, and those shoes will match so many of my other clothes. And so I fall in the trap of buying cheaper clothing to own all the different styles. Sometimes that’s okay. Like here, the sweater is super and the boots are great and they were both cheap. But I mean that by being addictive to fashion. I want so much!
What am I wearing?
This dress is several years old and I hardly ever wore it. And it is a wrap dress, my favorites. But I hardly ever wear red. Perhaps I will wear it more often now, because I think it looks great with the lilac! I also don’t wear scarfs often, but I can see it adds so much more to this outfit. I am wearing a faux leather jacket and patent leggings!

I love these pops of purple and those boots! What a statement! I’m a little minimal with wearing color as I do prefer neutrals… but, I do love color every now and then and it seems to put a smile on my face when I’m wearing it!

And to leopard! Oh boy Kathrine, you do have a lot of addictions! Lol. Good ones!
Nancy, these colors together are so brilliant and beautiful! What a gorgeous dress and I love the purple accents and the moto jacket. You are amazing! I am right there with you on all this fashion addiction stuff. I remember sleeping with my new Nike sneakers when I was 5 years old. I was so in love with them that I couldn’t put them away at bedtime! I don’t sleep with my shoes now but I often find myself just gazing at them with adoration!

Yes I have the same with shoes especially. I bought a faux leather blouse yesterday where I can’t take my eyes of!
Love this color combo! Unexpected but beautiful! And I agree, fashion sure can be addictive. So my 2020 goal to shopping is to think more about my purchases!

Yes I do that too. And I make better purchases now! Thanks Mireille!
How cool that you had your own taylor! In my teens and twenties I would not have had any idea of what I actually wanted. I love playing in clothes, but I don’t think I’m that visionary! And I’m glad you added color to your fashion life. You look lovely in this colorful outfit!
Author
Yes it was very cool. Thanks Crissy!
This is a smashing outfit! Maybe one of my favourites of yours.
It is a real shame you don’t have photos of your bespoke outfits. I would have loved to have seen them.
Since I opened my Etsy store I think I’m a little less addicted to fashion. Instead of seeing it as fun I see it as work. Also the whole environmental crisis has slowed down my love of clothes.

Oh that is a pity. I understand, because I think better now before I shop. But still the passion for clothing is big! Thanks Suzanne.

Fashion is definitely addictive! If I see something in the store I like, I have to have it! Thanks for the link up. I love your outfit! Such a great color combo and that dress is gorgeous.
Author
Yes same over here lol! Thanks Amy!
These colors are so pretty together! I love those lilac boots of yours!
I don’t think it’s a bad thing if fashion is your “addiction” – I love it too. It’s only an issue if it leads to financial instability in my opinion.

You are so right. But we are all women who keep their head together as far as I can see. So let’s jut enjoy our addiction!
I have always loved red and purple together!!!
Author
Yes? They are good together hey! Thanks Lisa!
I had no interest in fashion, that i can recall, until I was about 10 or 12. Then it was just about getting dressed but I was quite basic, in my 30s I began to see it as a creative outlet and now I can probably say I’m addicted!
Author
Haha, that is some evolving!
Thanks for the feature, my friend! When I was younger I made a lot of my own clothing, but I didn’t really design it. It’s so amazing that you had a tailor to do that for you. Those booties are amazing and argument enough that it’s good to get away from black! Have a great weekend!

I tried once to make my own clothing, but I am so in patience, It didn’t work! Thanks Kim!
Love the red with purple outfit. Yes, fashion is addictive.

Thanks Nicole!
Hi Nancy! I loove red more and more these days! Your dress is so fabulous on you, the print is beautiful and I love the color combo of lilac and red! I need to try some unexpected color combos in the New Year.
How amazing was that in your 20s that you had someone draw and make your creations, that would have been awesome!
Merry Christmas to you friend!

Red is such a great colour on you Nancy, you should definitely wear it more! I love how you combined it with lilacs and purples, which makes it even more delicious! Oh, and I’m certainly addicted to fashion too – vintage and second hand fashion in my case – and have been from a very tender age as well! xxx

Me too, I loved the clothing my Barbie dolls were wearing! I remember specific a patent leather black trench coat!
These colors are so vibrant and stunning. I love how you anchored the look with a black moto. A feminine floral dress juxtaposed with the rough edge of a leather jacket. One of my favorite pieces to add a little Euro Chic to the mix. We’re off to a great start this weekend. Have a wonderful Christmas, Nancy!

Thank you very much Shannon! Have a fabulous Christmas!

Nancy, while yes, it is an addiction to fashion, I would add that it’s also an addiction to creating art – in the form of fashion. I am new to fashion. My interest didn’t develop until after I retired. Clothing was solely utilitarian for me. And I came to fashion through jewelry. I have never been able to find jewelry I like, so I learned to make my own. It’s so awesome that you had the opportunity to create your own designs.
As for the outfit in this post, the dress is beautiful, but I particularly like how you styled it with purple accessories. Purple is one of my favorite colors, but I have a hard time styling it – and /or with it. Well done! You look fabulous!

I agree that fashion is addictive, and I’m like you in that I get the thought of something specific in my head and I won’t stop until I find it! I had an amazing tailor in NYC who would recreate things already in my closet—I wish I still had access to him! Also, love all the bright colors in this outfit!

How fab look, Nancy! I had a similar experience. I had the tailor across the street when I was in my early 20s too. It was fantastic! And not expensive at all. I still remember how I enjoyed choosing fabric for my little projects and it was so amazing to watch how they are coming to life.
I wish you a Merry Christmas, Nancy.

I love your pretty red dress, and doesn’t it look amazing with the shiny purple boots?? Love this look, Nancy. I’m glad you are branching out from black, but the fast fashion thing is…well, you know! Shop more second-hand!
Wishing you and Gerben a very Merry Christmas! See you on the other side!
