Checkered trousers always reminded me a bit of snobby people. You know, at least when you’re as old as me. Those girls who wore in puberty a high-necked blouse, loafers and a blue jacket with a green lining of some expensive English brand. Few jewelry except for a simple diamond solitare ring. Didn’t drink, never said anything wrong. You know the kind. I used to think those girls were so boring. Remember, I was about 16 at that time. And then I became friends with a girl like that. And I always laughed my socks out with that girl. Boy she was fun!
Are checkered trousers trendy or snobby?
But checkered trousers felt horrible back then. Just as I think men’s red trousers are terrible. Sorry if I offend you, but I really think it is often worn by a certain stereotype man and I don’t think these are the most interesting man. Mind you …. here in the Netherlands, so hey, it could be different where you live. But before you leave my blog, I quickly move on to the order of the day! checkered trousers. And ruffles, because I love ruffles.
Different shades of burgundy with checkered trousers
I don’t really like burgundy at all. But these colors together look very nice with these checkered trousers. And I loved the blouse so much that I settled for burgundy, obviously the blouse wasn’t available in black. These are actually older photos, from two years ago. And so you see, these checkered trousers are still available on every fashion site. Every fall/winter season you can find trousers like these. I don’t own these anymore, worn out. But I came across these photos and I liked the trousers so much that I am going to find me some thin ones for spring. Because I think they would look perfect with my leather blouse and gun metal ankle boots!
I am wearing three different shades of burgundy here. It works well for me. What doesn’t actually work these days in fashion? Everything is good as long as you feel great in the outfit you are wearing. Wear whatever you want because self confidence are the best clothes you can wear! Like two different statement earrings!

I am taking a wide plaid pair of pants to the consignment store. Only wore them once but felt so uncomfortable because the plaid was very large. And a combination of pink and burgundy. Too much for this more conservative former librarian. But I really like your plaid pants. They appeal to my conservative tastes and look very polished. Love the ruffles, very feminine and a nice contrast to the trouser pants. Those earrings are sensational.

Thanks Tina!
I love burgundy a lot, such a versatile colour. It looks really good on you as well Nancy, so you may change your mind about this colour. I know your blogpost is about the checkered trousers, but I got totally distracted by your boots. Such cool details, versatile length and style and that colour: super sexy! You rock in this outfit dear. Wishing you a fabulous weekend!

Thanks Lieske, yes those boots were good ones!
They are not snobby at all! I love the cut of the trousers and the way you teamed them with the burgundy blouse and booties!

I’d never really thought about check trousers being snobby or posh but I guess the “upper classes” in the UK have always had a thing for tweeds and checks! You can add men in orange or bright yellow trousers to the list too. I love the burgundy with your checks, perfect match! xx
Author
haha, yes indeed Gail!
Checks are certainly having a moment aren’t they? I love the berry tones you mixed in here Nancy. Have a great weekend xx

Thanks Laurie, have a great weekend!
I love those pants on you! Such a flattering fit! Plaid is so good and when it warms up you can wear it in a totally different way!

I love checkered or plaid trousers! And it is so funny because my first exposure to plaid pants was Cyndi Lauper wearing them in the 80’s..not so boring at all! So I always thought they were edgy and cool, not boring and proper. This outfit is totally something I would wear! And I agree the burgundy really works well with them. And those boots, my friend, are amazing!

I’m a big fan of plaid pants and these are fabulous! Like Shelbee said above, they remind me of the 80’s when I thought they were so edgy and cool. And I love the boots too! Happy weekend!

I need to go thrifting soon to try some different things and styles of pants. Lately, I am making notes of other’s outfits and copying them, been kind of fun to not have to come up with my own outfits!

It’s so funny that you don’t like burgundy, it’s one of my favorite colors and I have lots of it! Checkered trousers look very business-like to me, that’s why I don’t gravitate towards them. I love your combo, though–especially all of the shades of burgundy!
Author
Haha, thanks Kim. I don’t dislike it either.
I think burgundy looks great on you and loving it with the checkered trousers! Fun earrings too!
Thanks for hosting the linkup!

I love your outfit, especially the checked trousers. I bought a lovely pair a little while ago but they were uncomfortable so I had to return them. Shame as the print was lovely.

I never thought of checkered trousers being snobbish! I love the grey pair you’re wearing, and burgundy is the perfect colour to wear with it. I particularly love that ruffled blouse! xxx

Thanks Ann, I love ruffled blouses especially in black.
THis burgundy is such a great color on you and as always…your pics are so fun!! Happy Friday.

That cracks me up that you have that thought about those pants. I just love them, but gave most of mine away when I retired. I might need another pair.

I bought a new pair with pink. And combined it with purple! Loved it! Not sure about my new vest, I think I might need your help!
There you go again, with the perfect boots!! I had to laugh at your snobby friend piece! In my experience, there were never really any of those perfect girls. But I know what you mean. As soon as I saw this outfit, I pictured it with your leather jacket, so your spring outfit idea sounds super cute–and super you!! Love it!

These trousers look so good on you Nancy! I love them. I have a few pair, and really do like them. I had a pair I had in brown plaid when I was in 4th grade- with a yellow shirt. I sitll remember them and I hated them!
I love those boots and the combination of berry colors look great!

Hi Nancy, been missing the LINKUP! You know I love plaid EVERYTHING and your OOTD is lovely. I really like the different shades of burgundy with the gray, it’s another of my favorite colors to pair. Really great look.
Author
Thanks love, I am glad you made it now!
I found it very interesting to read about your associations with checkered trousers! I went to school in a suburb of Los Angeles. I don’t recall any students wearing checkered trousers. That would have been decidedly uncool. LOL! And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a man in red trousers!
In any case you look fantastic in checkered trousers, so I am glad you are intending to get another pair.

Nancy, you are so funny about the colours that you don’t like! Burgundy here, red in the other post – and you look great in them!!
I love plaid trousers – they look very punk and badass to me. I wore a pair today to work.
Author
Yes indeed they look punky especially the red ones!
Fabulous colour combination! I love your frilly blouse. I have some trousers like that – and you’ve just reminded me that I also have some burgundy boots that I’ve never worn! I just hope I can still walk in them! Thanks for linking up!
