I never wear black and white together. And I certainly didn’t own a black and white dress.(and then I remembered this dress, haha) But one is never to old to learn right? But first what’s been on my mind.
It has been incredibly hot in the Netherlands. A lot of heat records were broken with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. While we actually had quite a bad spring and the beginning of the summer wasn’t much better either. Little sun, lots of clouds but no rain. While of course we had a super summer last year. But this season it is also very dry again, just like last year. You see dead trees and shrubs everywhere. The plants who just made it last year, now collapse under the drought.
Animals in the gardens that are struggling, think of hedgehogs, mice, birds. We have already found the necessary dead mice, moles and birds this year. If there finally is a rain shower, it is not enough to restore nature. The soil is just to dry. Fortunately, we have a very animal-friendly garden, with everywhere containers of water and places where animals can shelter or get food. But nature is weird. I’m curious what kind a winter we will get. I’m not going to make it harder than it is and keep on talking about the climate, others can do that much better. I’m going to talk about my outfit now.
My (not) first black and white dress
With that heat I prefer to wear a dress. One that fits nicely around your body and certainly doesn’t pinch anywhere. I never wear, oh no, never say never, almost never wear black and white together. I’ve said it before, I feel a bit like a waitress when I do. But I couldn’t resist this one, you understand that right? A super simple dress with v neck and elegance.
Black and white striped dress
You can actually combine all colors with a black and white striped dress. So it was actually hardest to decide which color I wanted to wear on this dress. Years and years ago I also wore a lot of cobalt blue, in addition to black of course. Together with black and white I think that is a wonderful combination. But I don’t have any cobalt blue. Oops, I feel a shopping afternoon coming up!
But I felt like wearing green! So I picked my green denim jacket and the green espadrilles. Added green earrings, these I have for years but they are the perfect shade of green. I can see the difference in my face tint when I wear these or another shade of green, these are perfect. And a green statement ring.
Would really appreciate it if you would share my outfit on Pinterest! Just hoover over the photo!
I would love it if you could follow me on Instagram!

How pretty! You were born to wear and model dresses, with those long shapely legs and that great figure. Your green jacket and accessories take that darling dress to a new level.

I am a big fan of black and white and this dress looks so very good on you. Pretty much any colour works as an accent.
Your Summer sounds more like a typical Australian Summer with its extreme heat and dry conditions.
Many thanks for hosting Nancy, enjoy your week end.

What a cute striped dress, I like the denim jacket and touch of colour with it! 🙂
Our winter has been very stage too – quite a few days around 30 degrees which is spring/summer like for us! I hope it doesn’t mean our summer will be hot also, the weeks of 40 degree heatwaves can get so tiring!
Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you have had a great week and have a nice weekend ahead of you 🙂

Yes we had 40 degrees too, it’s not good. Also not for nature. Thanks Mica!
The green you chose is so pretty with the B&W. I don’t own anything in that combo either. I do like it with bright pink or red, though. Have a great weekend, stay cool!

Yes, any color would work! Thanks Kim!
I’m surprised you haven’t worn black and white together – I love that combination! Your green denim jacket and earrings look perfect with the dress. It’s hot this weekend in the UK, hooray!

Yes the weather is fabulous now isn’t it! Enjoy!
Nancy, I love this dress! The lines and the cut are super flattering. And I always like black and white with a splash of color. But black pants and a white top…that makes me feel like a waitress! This green denim jacket is adorable. And I love, love, love, the green wedges. I hope all of your little outdoor creatures stay hydrated!

Nancy, that shade of green is the perfect complement to your black and white dress. And you do not look like a waitress! Haha! Weather has been strange all over the planet, hasn’t it? Who knows what fall will bring.
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

I hope for a sunny one!Thanks Darlene!
I see why you have that black and white dress…it is fab! And I also don’t normally wear black and white.
I love that you paired it with green.
Our summer has been really hot and we had a totally lame and late spring, it felt like a very prolonged winter. They say this winter is going to be colder than normal for us here. Something to NOT look forward to.
Climate change is real, that’s for sure.

I absolutely adore that dress Nancy, and you accessorized it perfectly with green! Love those espadrille sandals too! Incidentally, I also wore a black and white dress recently. It will appear in my next post! xxx

Thanks Ann! I will be looking for dresses that you wear! You name them frocks? In the shops in Brighton! Hope to find such a treasure!
Linking up my dress/post from yesterday, Nancy! Thank you for hosting, and thanks for having me. 🙂
I LOVE your black and white dress. I’ve really gotten into black and white patterned clothing over the past few years. I have several black and white patterned dresses (they do not look like waitress uniforms, get over that, ha ha), skirts, tops, sweaters, pants, shoes, you name it, I have it!). They are so versatile, because – like you say – they go with every colour! I would also do red with this dress, or yellow or a baby blue, even a rusty-orange to make it more fall-like. I do love the gorgeous shade of green (almost like jade) that you’re doing with it – an unexpected combo!
We are seeing weird weather patterns here in Canada too – in my province (BC, the west coast), forest fires are destroying so much of the old-growth forest, and casting smoky palls over the coastal cities. I’m so glad you are taking care of your garden and its inhabitants.
Happy weekend, my dear!

I think you look gorgeous in this fabby and fun dress!! The green jacket and other accessories are something I just love to bits!! Great that you leave water for your wildlife – here in Australia we have constant drought and we are losing many rare species to climate change … we facing challenging times!! Have a wonderful weekend!

That is awful isn’t it Donna! The climate is very strange the last few years. It’s scary and horrific if animals suffer from it.
Green was a lovely color to add to this dress! It fits you so well and is very flattering!

Thanks Laura!
How gorgeous you look again Nancy. I am far more careful with colours and would stick to the safe black/white colour scheme, maybe adding a bit of red or yellow on my bolder days (you know I am bold in different ways than in wearing very colourful outfits) and I am always in awe when others are more daring. I like the added green and absolutely love the jacket itself. You must wear it often I assume. Enjoy the next bit of very summerly summer in Holland! Love, Lieske

Thanks Lieske! We have a heatwave now! And next week we are of to the UK for a few days! What a fabulous time to have a holiday! And after that Gerben starts with a new company!

I love this look, Nancy! And your hair looks gorgeous pulled back like that! I have a similar-patterned maxi (with a similar neckline) and I’ve never tried it with a moto jacket. I only have one in black, though, and probably need to consider finding one in a color because I love that addition of color (and the shoes and earrings)! Beautiful job with this styling and you look gorgeous! And thanks for another wonderful linkup!
