And it’s that time again! It is still August, so still summer, and you are already overwhelmed with the fall collection. I always hate that so much. Just enjoy the summer and wear those wonderful dresses tees and sandals as long as you can! I am not going to step in that trap anymore!
Why you shouldn’t step in the trap of buying fall collection in August!
I did years ago. Then I became completely lyrical when the new collections came out and I immediately bought the snappy boots, sweaters, coats etc. And by the time it was cold enough to wear it, I didn’t like it that much anymore or, worse, I saw a lot more nicer boots and clothes.
And yes, I have already saw some fabulous ankle boots, this print in brown! And yes, I want them! And yes, by the time I want to wear them they are sold out! But I don’t do it! I won’t buy them already! At least I will wait until mid-September or so and then I will go completely crazy with buying stuff!! No, not that either. I’m going to neatly write down what I need, long cardigans, and which colors I don’t own yet.
Because that is also such a thing. For example, I have bought a skirt and I do not have a suitable top or blouse or sweater to wear on it. So now I’m really going to look better at what I want and what I already have in the closet what fits with a item I want! Wish me good luck, I will need it! Hahah.
This is a Summer outfit!
Olive green is such a beautiful color, and any other color goes well with it. This is a wonderfully simple dress that fits nicely. But so stretchy that you hardly feel that you are wearing anything! Ideal for the warm weather. But it’s a sleeveless dress and my upper arms are really ugly, my skin is so dry. So I prefer to wear a cardigan over it. This is a long cardigan, but it is super thin so it does not give any warmth. But it looks a bit more dressy.
I love these types of sandals, simple but with a golden chain or buckle or whatever golden accent. Wooden bracelets fit perfectly with these earth tones and the brown chain makes the light color of the cardigan less flat. The earrings are made of natural materials and therefore match perfectly with the bracelets! And to stay with the natural, what plums hey! They are not to eat, too sour. But the color is beautiful! It gives a huge mess on the ground! And next to it is a blackberry bush, which is full of delicious blackberries every year. Gerben always makes jam of them (which I don’t eat because the thought of what kind of animal peed on it is making me not want to eat it!)
Would really appreciate it if you would share my outfit on Pinterest! Just hoover over the photo!
Autumn can wait! I’m enjoying summer and in no hurry. You look very classy in this green dress!

You look gorgeous Nancy. I love the colour and your wonderful accessoiries.
I wish you a great summer day!

Thanks Tina, it’s fantastic weather here now!
You certainly look good in green tones Nancy. I loved your last look too. I’m not thinking about AW19 yet! I refuse! xx
Author
Thank you very much Laurie! Yes I refuse too!
I agree Nancy! I have done that too – bought all the stuff for the upcoming season and then when it arrived I wasn’t as excited to wear the clothes. I won’t do that again!
You look lovely in olive!

Haha, we learn don’t we?
Since we don’t cool down and have a “proper” fall season, I don’t mind buying pieces as I see them and could use them in my wardrobe, as they get used year ’round. But, your rational is sound!

Thanks Kim!
That’s the way to do it….just wear the “fall colors” but I still want to embrace summer!!

Thank you!
I have a confession to make: I love Autumn and Autumn fashion! But although I’ve had some sideways glances at what’s in the shop windows, Not that I’ll be anything or have plans to buy anything new at all in the foreseeable future, but still … Anyway, I’m still hanging on to Summer for now, trying to wear as many of my unworn Summer clothes as possible. I’m loving your olive dress, which looks ideal for a hot Summer’s day, and the necklace you’re wearing is stunning! xxx

Thanks Ann! I also look at the fall collections, and they are so gorgeous! Fashionable wise , that’s the best season!
Well Nancy, it was raining all day here, like it can do on a typical autumn day in Holland, so your blogpost was kind of too much “on top of things” today 🙂
Love the colour of your outfit on you. It goes very well with your skin!
I hope you can enjoy lots of summer days before autumn really comes your way.
Love,

It is getting real warm here now Lieske, at least for a week! And we have vacation as of Friday!
I love this dress, love your sandals, love the duster cardigan, love that necklace! I don’t buy fall stuff either until I can start wearing it because I usually forget I have it or like you, I don’t even like it by the time the weather is right for it. But now that I quit my day job, there won’t be much buying of anything for a while! Lord knows I have enough stuff in my closet to get by!

Haha, not only the Lord knows dear! lol!
Such a lovely dress, I like the long cardigan with it 🙂
I often get caught up in the anticipation of a new season and buy autumn or winter things before I can use them, which is silly as it our season is so short here! haha! I am trying to be better now and only buy things I can wear right away!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂

Yes me too, it happened to me so often that I bought to early! We learn along the way don’t we!
Thank you so much for sharing! I have definitely made the mistake of buying Fall clothes too early!

I love this outfit…the colors, the flow, everything! I agree with you about the fall clothes. Time seems to go by so quickly anyway and the retail world rushes everything along at an even faster pace!

Thanks Vanessa!
I love the cut of the dress and the color! Yes to making a list of what you want/need to add to your closet. I am learning some lessons this year as I sometimes have bought things just because they were on clearance and I kind of liked them that I should only buy something that I love! Otherwise I end up donating them by the end of the season!

Yes that is my experience too! Hope we learned from it!
I adore this relaxed but chic summer look! Thanks for pushing me to stay away. It’s hard to resist sometime when you see all the pretty fall things.

It is! But I learned the hard way that there are many more beautiful items will come!
Love that outfit. It’s so put together yet casual. You have a really good point about buying too much pre-fall. I often feel the same way. By the time I can wear the things, I’m not so excited about them anymore.
Author
Yes exactly! Not doing that anymore!
Well we are expecting about 21 degrees in Zeeland next week so will have to pack a swester ??? xxx Sabina

No Sabina, there is a heatwave starting tomorrow!!
I always like to wait a bit to look at fall clothing, because I feel like in August they mainly are focused on getting the summer stuff clearance and out of the store. Ohh, this olive dress is a beauty on you and I love that longer cardi layered over it.

Yes that is true! Thanks Carrie!
I love this olive colour on you! I tend to wait before I buy from the new collection unless I really love something. The problem is when I wait too long, my size is usually sold out!

Yes, it’s a gorgeous color! Thanks Ruth!
I am so glad that you are still wearing summer clothes, Nancy! I never give into the allure of buying fall clothes in August, because I buy for all seasons all year round! That’s the fun of shopping second-hand: I’ve got a pile of clothes already set aside for August, and the September issues (eg. Vogue) just get me excited about finding what I can remix from my own closet. I already have a lot of things that are appearing as trends – so much fun to shop my closet and create new looks that way!
This dress is a classic “jammy” dress – love it with the long cardigan! You look comfy and lovely, my dear. All the best for your weekend ahead!

Thank you very much Sheila! Have a fabulous Sunday!
I totally agree with you. I always we should enjoy summer why it lasts. I don’t plan to buy anything this autumn, I’m trying to be sustainable by buying less and wearing those clothing items I already own.

Great on you! I wish I could stop myself from shopping! Haha, but I do shop more and more second hand and a lot less new!
I love this dress and style on you, Nancy, you look great in this green!! Our winter’s and cooler months are very short here, thankfully, and like to wait before I buy new stuff!!

I don’t really want Autumn yet, but am fed up with the hot weather Nancy – you look a picture and you made me laugh at the thought of animals weeing on the fruit – lol. Jacqui Mummabstylish
