The news of the live-action Barbie movie approaching in 2023 has not only caught the attention of the cinematics, but the fashion gurus have gone into full Barbiecore mode with the newest trends of the season. Margot Robbie is the woman everyone wishes to be, so it only seems right that she is playing the role of Barbie and becoming the trendsetter as we see glimpses of her outfits for the role. Barbiecore has been reflected onto the catwalk and also the glamorous event carpets, and we can’t get enough of what we are seeing! Even better for the common fashionista, it is a trend you can easily hop on to if you are hoping to achieve the ultimate barbiecore look.
Where Did Barbie Core Originate From
Barbie started her legacy in 1957. And what was intended for a simple children’s play doll has expanded and kept its throne among the world’s most recognizable brands. Its worldwide expansion and inclusivity in introducing various styles of the doll have been fundamental to female empowerment. However, we still can’t neglect Barbie’s pink and feminine roots that have held the pink aesthetic on a pedestal.
How to Do it Yourself
There is inspiration everywhere to look out for. You can use Barbie herself as your muse, or you can look at some of pop culture’s most famous Barbie Core-inspired outfits. A few founding mothers (should we call them) of barbie core fashion are the likes of Elle Woods in the 200s film ‘Legally Blonde’. Who practically played Barbie in a lawyer’s world. Niki Minaj also offered some iconic barbie looks when she hit the charts in the early 2010s. Some she even repurposes today. We also have seen the likes of the Kardashians, Hayley Bieber, Lizzo. And even the luxury designer brand Valentino had their Fall winter 2022/2023 pink-inspired. Designer aside, you do not have to break the bank to achieve such looks and styles. Start by easing yourself into the Barbiecore trend and try some of the suggested inspired pieces we have gathered.
Barbiecore Hitting The Town
Barbiecore might seem eccentric to those who have not been introduced to its power and influence, but the best way to ease yourself into it is to wear your hot pink look on a night out in the town or club. Unless you are living in a remote village, you will see an abundance of outfits and styles that offer diverse style perspectives. You should not feel out of place in a Barbiecore hot pink corset top, or even a fluorescent pink blazer dress. Since the outfit will be a statement piece, ensure your heels and accessories are kept elegant yet glamorous. And won’t create too much confusion to the look.
Barbie-Boss Jumpsuits
Another great way to translate barbiecore into your wardrobe is to look into pink jumpsuits for casual and also outwear. Nothing screams a female boss like a power jumpsuit. Once more, if you choose a confident statement colour like hot pink, you will seem like the woman with all the influence in her hands. As the song says ‘I’m a barbie girl in a barbie world, and this will be your world! It can also reflect your personality, and ability to be playful and stand out in the crowd. You have to consider the right occasion before wearing head-to-toe pink. But perhaps in a professional environment where you are inspired to dress creatively a pink jumpsuit would be the perfect statement choice.
Hot Pink High-Heels
Another great technique to settle into the era of Barbiecore is to include a hot pink shoe. A great piece to complement any average-looking outfit, and revive it into something magical. The key for fluorescent shoe pieces is, to indulge in the Barbie spirit you also have to keep it elegant. Some hot pink kitten heels should achieve just this, and paired with a simple back two-piece suit, a midi skirt, or a little black dress will be the icing on the cake.
Barbiecore Make-up
The power of pink makeup is undisputed. From its resurrection of when little girls would paint their faces with as much pink sparkle as possible. If done in the right way, this season you will be sure to be the stand-out Barbiecore advocate. Subtle bursts of pink in your makeup look are the right way you should be achieving this look. Pink eyeshadow of different hues and shades placed on the eyelids, inner corner, or even lined boldly on the lash line is an essential Barbiecore makeup trick. Additionally, lipsticks are the easiest ways to integrate Barbiecore. Use a soft or neon pink lip shade for a dramatic beauty moment.
I’m in! I know that hot pink isn’t a colour that looks good yto me, but I want something in hot pink! Lol.
I just love this trend, and am definitely going to embrace it.

Your top outfit in pink is absolutely gorgeous and you look great in those tones. I like certain pink more than others, my favorite is fuschia as I feel it looks best on me.

That is a beautiful colour! Much warmer then hot pink.
I’m finding these “core” things a bit strange, to be honest, but I’m having problems with this one in particular.
Not that I’ve got something against hot pink or Barbie, quite the contrary. As a collector of vintage Barbie dolls, I have to disagree with Barbie’s “pink roots”, as originally Barbie’s wardrobe didn’t particularly focus on pink, which came only much later by the time the eighties rolled along. But anyway, I’m loving your all-pink outfit, and I wouldn’t say no to that pink jumpsuit! xxx

Is it because Barbie got popular in that time? I have no idea. I remember having aBarbie who wore a patent leather trenchcoat! Gosh, I was so in love with that coat!
I’m all for this trend, Barbie reminds me of my childhood even though I wasn’t a huge collector of her dolls. 🙂 But, I love pink and I love these Barbie trends!! You skirt and top are so cute together.

I have to admit I think this is a strange trend…probably driven more by the public relations for the movie than anything! I’m not going to rush out to buy any hot pink because it’s not my color. I need more blues in my pinks! But, this was a fun read, Nancy!

Thanks Heather!
I look hideous in most pink, so it is not a trend I will be embracing for myself. That said, I enjoy seeing how it looks on others. It definitely works for you, Nancy! But I’m surprised you didn’t slip something black into the outfit. 😄

You absolutely nailed the trend! I can’t help it, it is brilliant! I am not sure if this trend is something I’d use (for some reason i get tired of pink hyper fast) but I do enjoy seeing you owning it
