I like my skirts a midi lenght. Well I liked to. Last year there was nothing wrong with just below the knee, for me, and now I think it is to short…..pff, sometimes I get so tired of myself. (many people who know me well would now say, only sometimes?) More about the midi skirt later.
Shopping my wardrobe with a midi skirt that should be longer…..
For me, the months of January and February are the months when I hardly buy anything new. When I was still working, I always hated the collections that flooded into the store during these months. (well flowed! You don’t want to know how much work it is to receive new clothes every day, to unpack, hang, label, and often ironing them) Transistional collections, that’s what they are called. Never fun, always boring. Haha, kind of like, we have to hang new clothes in the shops, but we’re not going to spend to much on it in terms of creativity.
And now I still can’t find anything nice in these months. Not that I have to, because I really have enough hanging in my closets. So these are THE months for me to shop from my wardrobe. Like this skirt for example. I love pleated skirts and this one is a few years old. But when I wanted to wear it again, I thought the length was to short. I like longer skirts these days. (could be totally different by the end of this season though)
How to make a midi skirt look longer.
My initial thought was to wear this midi skirt with ankle boots. But the skirt was to short for that, in my eyes. It looks great with ankle boots, but I just want the skirts longer now. Last year this was a perfect lenght for me. Nothing as changeable as a woman who likes clothes…. So I opted for taller boots. And that makes the midi skirt look a little longer. But that only works with boots where the skirt fall over the boots. So there should not be seen a bit of leg. And it works better of course with boots in the same color as the midi skirt.
I think this color combination is beautiful. In the past, yes yes, when I only wore black clothes, I sometimes added this brown color in the form of a bag or a belt. But only when I was in a very colorful mood of course! The blazer is pre loved, just take a look at the fantastic shoulder pads!

I really like the length of a midi skirt and these are great tips! The black with the soft brown is so pretty together.

Yes, our preferences sometimes change very quickly. But I think that’s normal, especially if you love fashion. Great skirts are bound to hit stores soon. 😉

Indeed, can’t wait to shop the new collections!
Lovely colour on you. The skirt length looks perfect. I realise now that skirts just below knee length are best on me, but I don’t like wearing them with ankle boots and I don’t have the right shoes. A dilemma
Author
Why don’t you like to wear them with ankle boots? You have such a great selection!
For titchy me, a tailored skirt is best just on the knee Other than that, I’m with you on the longer length Nancy. I love anything paired with tan also. Another great look xx

Thank you very much Laurie!
This color combo is one of my favorites! Great tip on styling midi skirts! Love your styling!

Black and tan is a great combination but actually this looks navy on my monitor – an equally good mix. Yes it’s strange how feelings change from season regarding length. I also think gaining or losing a few pounds can surreptitiously change proportions. Anyway, I think this is great length on you.

I remember working in retail and when those shipments would come in – ugh!! Those days were exhausting. That was a long time ago, man, I don’t think I could do that anymore – especially dressed up in heels!
You styled this so well, I love black and brown together, it’s such a great combo.
I hope you have a great weekend Nancy!

And we got new collections 4 days a week! We barely had the time to sell all!
I know what you mean—I always want the skirt to be either really long or short! But I’m coming around to the idea of midi skirts these days. I love your outfit! I think I could recreate it…hm? Maybe!
Have a lovely weekend, Nancy.

Haha, would love to see it! After seeing you in the shorter denim skirt, I was thinking, mmm perhaps I should give a shorter skirt a try as well! Lol.
I. love the black and brown paired together! Wearing taller boots totally works with this skirt!

Thanks Laura!
That IS a striking color combination, and I like the elegance of midis as well.

Thank you very much!
Thanks for the feature! I really like the brown accessories with the black. And I agree with the riding boots with the midi skirt: they are my favorite in winter. I also shop a lot less in January and February as I look forward to warmer weather and wear all of my things.

My pleasure. Yes I am looking forward to warmer weather too, finally bare legs!
With the skirt coming over the top of the boots, it does create the illusion of a longer skirt. On the other hand, I can see how it would look nice with tights and ankle boots. Hurray for versatility! The jacket, belt, and boots add interesting pops of color to the dark gray skirt and top.
Thank you for hosting the link-up.

OMG, Nancy, you make me laugh! I get so tired of myself sometimes, too. I am forever changing my style du jour! We are chameleons, my friend, and we dress based on our mood in the very moment that we are getting dressed. Nothing wrong with that…spontaneous keeps things way more interesting anyway! I love this outfit on you and the color combination is a classic one. I fell in love with brown and black way back in the 90’s when I first worked in fashion retail. I hope you have a fabulous weekend! We have a snow day today with more snow coming over the weekend. Yay! More snow 🙁

Awfull! That snow, haha. Yes I wore it also back in the 90s and never got bored with it. It’s for the better that we are chameleons isn’t it!
Your jacket is a lovely color on you, and the black and brown color mix is very chic! I think changing our style choices is a great way to grow, and express ourselves and our creativity. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the link up!

I agree with you. Always wearing the same is boring right! Thanks!
It’s makes such a diff what a skirt length is doesn’t it. I much prefer a midi style xx great look Nancy xx
Author
It does, but I have to say Jacqui, that I a very tempted by all the lovely mini skirts I see!
I am the same in these months. I shop the closet as it is a transitional time. I have bought a couple thrifted blouses but nothing else. I love this combo- you always look great in the pleated midi skirts! The fingerless gloves are a nice touch!

This is a very stylish look Nancy. I love the cut of the blazer. And in such an interesting color. I was trying to decide what the name of that color is. Salmon?
I’ve been liking my skirts longer too. But mostly because I have to be less conscientious about not flashing more than I intend. LOL!

Yes indeed, they are very warm actually!
Such a cute skirt! I love it with the boots.

Thanks Amy!
I would wear this look – gorgeous, Nancy!
Author
Really? It’s not you at all is it! Yeah the shoulder pads are!
That’s so funny you say that about the skirt needing to cover the boots, because most of the time I’m the exact OPPOSITE. I want to show a little leg. I know that will probably end at some time in my life, but right now it feels so modern. It’s so nice we can change our mind all the time, right? LOL
Love the blazer Nancy…how fun!!

I think it’s because you are a bit shorter then I am. I think if you wear skirts over your boots it will shorten you.
Clever idea to pair the skirt with tall boots. The black and browns look so good together, must remember this combo come our Winter. A girl can change her mind on anything fashion wise , skirt lengths included. Many thanks for hosting Nancy, enjoy your weekend.

I totally agree! Thanks Jill!
Oh, I love a pleated skirt and I like them long, too. Many people would say I’m too short to wear such long skirts and dresses…I say…pfft! They are my legs and I like them covered! I truly do love your photos! You always look like you’re having so much fun!

Such a simple solution Nancy but makes all the difference. Not the usual choice of boots in terms of colour but it works nicely with the jacket. Great outfit. Enjoy your weekend

I’m hearing you Nancy: I often get tired of myself too, and I’m absolutely sure my friends would make the same comment 😉 That said, I’m loving the proportions of your outfit here. I do love a pleated skirt as well, and I too prefer my skirts a bit longer lately. Love the touches of brown to enhance the black! Your blazer’s shoulder pads are fantastic! xxx
