I found this plaid tweed skirt back in my closet when I needed something pre-loved for the The Thrifty Six series. I had actually forgotten about this skirt a bit. This was before I completely turned my closet upside down and rearranged it into basics and keypieces. Otherwise I would have seen it earlier. Have you ever heard of the Lonneke method? She is a Dutch stylist. And works according to basics and keypieces. Very interesting. And satisfying I might add.
My history with this plaid tweed skirt
The funny story of this skirt is that when I was still working, in a trendy women’s fashion store, I bought this skirt. I have told it before, I was a branch manager and got a 50% discount on the clothes. Well you may have some idea how much of it went home every week. But at one point my skirt was worn out and I got rid of it. By the way, this was more than 10 years ago. I haven’t been working for eight years. But last year I came across this plaid tweed skirt again on the second hand site and I bought it immediately!
Styling a plaid tweed skirt
But I’ll be honest, I’m going to sell this one! I just don’t think the skirt suits me that much anymore. Too short anyway. But I had a lot of fun with it so it is not that bad.
I wear it here with a cool biker jacket and a off white ruffled blouse and suède boots. For some reason I always wear these wedged boots with this skirt. Probably because the boots are suède and that suits better with the thick tweed of the plaid skirt in my head. And because the plaid tweed reminds me of Chanel tweed (if only) I am wearing a lot of pear necklaces!
Guess what! Only when I finished this post I found out I showed this skirt before, with the same story about it, lol. Ah well, you can decide which styling is better then! And I didn’t wear the wedged ankle boots there!! But I did had that Chanel feel.
Shop the plaid tweed skirt look!

Nancy, that plaid does look like a Chanel plaid. I have rarely met a black & white look that I haven’t liked and this is no exception. So chic!
Thank you very much Terri!
This is such a pretty skirt and I love all of those layered necklaces with it!
I love tweed and pearls together! that’s such a pretty skirt, it’s a shame you think it is too short, it’s a great length on you! But as you wear it so rarely I understand you wanting to let it go.
Thanks for the link up 🙂
Hope that you are having a good week 🙂
Thanks Mica, yes outfits are all about how they make you feel!
Nancy you look amazing. A touch of chanel and not to short. You can wear it ❤️
Thanks Tina. I like to wear my skirts a bit longer though!
I love this outfit so much Nancy! I haven’t heard of the Lonneke method but it sounds very interesting.
Miles of smiles,
Yes it is interesting, but she is a Dutch stylist.
Well I’m glad that I don’t actually have to choose which outfit I like better. They are both awesome! I’m going to have to look up the Lonneke method.
Oh thank you very much Michelle, you are so kind!
That is a pretty skirt and it looks cool on you. Have a fun weekend!
Thanks , have a great weekend!
he length of the skirt really suits you Nancy. I love a knee length skirt. A great flirty style too. Have a lovely weekend xx
I think knee length looks better on you then on me. I like my skirts a bit longer better.
YOU HAVE A LOVELY SKIRT.
THANK YOU FOR THE LINK UP
My pleasure love!
That tweed skirt is a one of a kind – love the cut! Have a wonderful weekend Nancy!

Oh would love to see you in it! Have a good weekend!
Oh my goodness, Nancy, I love this outfit! And that skirt is magnificent. I love it every time you show it. And the layered pearl necklaces look so great. I just wore a whole pile pf pearls for photos yesterday…actually for our next Thrifty Six post! So you will have to wait a bit until I show you! LOL Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
Haha, I have been inspired by you wearing pearls on your cool jeans!
That is a funny story! And I love the skirt, it looks so cute on you.
I love the unique style of this skirt. You should wear it more often as its lovely on you and the styling is really cool. Love your hair, Nancy!
Thanks Yvonne, that is very sweet of you!
Such a gorgeous skirt and great story behind it! This outfit is so pretty with the pearls and I love the other way you styled it back in 2019 too! Thank you for the linkup! Have a fabulous weekend!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Thank you very much Jill!
I love this on you so much- giving me all the Chanel vibes I just adore:) Have a great weekend xx
Love tweed during fall and winter so that skirt is A+++++
I love how your outfit turned out: very chic!
Looking at the look some more it got a distinctly Vivienne Westwood vibe. Think punk rebel chic! Love it. xo Sabina
MM, that makes it much more appealing to me! Lol.
I really love this outfit. Would love it for myself.
I love that skirt and the outfit you pulled together compliments it nicely.
Thank you very much Joanne!
I did think the story sounded familiar 🙂 But I had no idea you were planning on selling the skirt again.
I’m hearing you, though. If you love clothes and fashion, your style constantly evolves, and something we loved and wore to death 10 years ago might not be us anymore. I once bought a second-hand skirt I’d owned before as well. It was a spur of the moment thing, but when I got it home and tried to style it, it just felt meh! I have to say that I do like the outfit you created here, though. xxx
Yeah funny isn’t it. I was just thinking that I wore that skirt a lot also with flat highbloots. Perhaps that might look better!
That is a super-cute skirt and I can’t blame you for re-buying it – it does have a very Chanel vibe. I like how you’ve styled it, but maybe that wide A-line is feeling a bit dated? I can’t really say, though, as I’m a fan of big wide skirts! I also re-tell my clothing stories nearly every time I re-wear a piece! I can’t expect readers to remember! Ha ha!
Thank you so much for the link-up, Nancy!
Haha, no indeed. I love the skirt but there is something about it….
I can’t believe you’re going to sell that skirt Nancy. It’s definitely not too short and it’s so fabulous!!
But I don’t feel great in it!But I do love it, only not on me.
Haha! I love this story, Nancy. I thought the skirt looked familiar! You’ve styled it very nicely, but I know how you feel. If it doesn’t feel right to you, it’s better to pass it on. Happy weekend!
Indeed, someone else would be more happier with it.
I can see why you had to buy this cute little skirt again. Love how you styled it too but if it feels too short and you are uncomfortable wearing it you are wise to let it go. Many thanks for hosting Nancy.
I have been wearing more skirts lately too. I love the flounce and the plaid print. Looks so fun especially with the long pear;s!
Have a great weekend!
Thank you very much Jess!
It’s a great look: black and white classic and I love the texture this skirt adds.
That sounds like such an interesting way of organizing your closet! I might have to try that idea! That skirt is darling on you!
It really is and I am much more enjoying now what hangs in my closet!
Balck and white still shines and withstands the test of time <3
