Jodie wrote a post a while ago about every shoe looking good with some kind of outfit. So I asked her what to wear with brogues. Because I have a pair of brogues that have been in the closet for a few years now because I just don’t know how I’m going to wear them. Jodie came up with the idea of making a post about brogues together. Well I won’t say no to that.
First of all, I really enjoy doing something with other bloggers and Jodie is a blogger that I have been following from the very beginning that I started blogging. Jodie gives you the feeling of belonging to a family. And she is colorful and loves accessories. Her blog, Jodies Touch of Style, is all about having fun with fashion and includes 3 different women in different decades of their life.
5 Styles of how to wear brogues
Jodie came up with the idea of wearing brogues in five ways. Because we are so different, I mean I love dark colors and simple looks, I think it’s interesting to see how we wear brogues. We are going to show you 5 ways of how you can wear brogues.
Brogues with jeans
Here I have worn the brogues with jeans. This is my only pair of jeans, yes I have a pair of denim culottes too, but I’m already wearing culottes in this post. I don’t like this design of jeans with brogues. With these jeans I think that something with heels would look best, I have not worn flats under these trousers yet and I don’t think I will again.
I think skinny jeans would look great with brogues and a long cardigan on it, for example. mm, I happen to have skinny jeans in my Zara cart. The blazer is one that I haven’t shown you before on the blog. I like the length of the sleeves, three-quarters, and the wrinkled detail. Often I wear a blouse or sweater like this, with the sleeves popping out under the blazer or cardigan.
Wearing with a dress and knee socks(because then they look like boots)
For this look, I chose one of my favorite dresses. My pre loved Diane von Furstenberg dress bought in my beloved England. When Jodie suggested this way of wearing brogues I thought, no, that’s for young girls. And guess what, I think this is the best look! It’s playful and fun. I thought this was a really surprising look.
Wearing brogues with a skirt and tights (because then they just blend in)
So here I am wearing the brogues with a skirt and tights. I feel like I really need to make the shoes look a bit cooler otherwise I find them to look frumpy quickly. So wearing such a lovely pleated skirt, but with a somewhat sporty blouse and a large chain necklace and leather jacket. I didn’t choose thicker tights because I don’t like them at all under the pleated skirt, maybe under a different skirt, I haven’t tried that yet.
Do I like this look? I am not sure, perhaps with a knitted sweater it would look better.
How I used to wear them, with chinos
This is how I wear the brogues. Well actually not, because this was the only time I have worn them. With chinos. But with a feminine blouse on it otherwise it will look a bit androgynous. Which I like by the way. I always liked these kind of trousers a lot, but when I look at this photo, it is from a few years ago, I think, no, we are past that time. But I think I will try to wear them with these trousers and a short jacket.
With more flowy trousers
I have had these culottes for years and I always like them very much. In my head yes, because every time I see a photo with these trousers I think, no. I don’t them anymore. Brogues under a flared trouser leg? Not for me. It gives me a bit of a clown feeling. Can you picture it, these trousers in yellow, and then the brogues in red underneath, I mean that….
The nice thing about this post was that as I wrote the text for the photos, I suddenly saw completely different outfits with brogues that could work for me. This is one of the great things about working with other bloggers. You inspire each other and Jodie certainly inspired me to wear different styles of brogues. I would love it if you also take a look at Jodie’s blog, to see how she styled the brogues.
Would really appreciate it if you would share my photos on Pinterest.
I would love it if you would share your outfits with #nancysfashionstyle
Hi Nancy, I get the feeling you not such a fan of brogues 🙂 They those type of shoes that look better off then on me. Rgds, Lise

Yes you felt that right! They are definitely not my favorite pair of shoes!
Your brogues look fab in every outfit! I’ve not worn a pair again for quite a few years. My daughter wears them with her uniform though – she is a student Norland Nanny!! Love Michelle x

Thanks Michelle!
I love how you’ve worn these brogues! They look great in each styling and I’d wear one of these outfits in a heartbeat!

You don’t have a pair? I think they are quite your style!
Nancy I can’t believe you had any hesitation about styling brogues. Each of these looks are spot on. You’ve inspired me to start looking for a pair and get in the loop. ?

Oh Thanks Lesley! How nice of you to comment, this was fun to do with Jodie!
Hello Nancy! I found your blog through a comment you left on Leslie’s Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After blog. I love that you experimented with the brogues…found what didn’t work for you and got ideas for what would work. I especially like the dress and knee socks. Wishing you a lovely week!

Thanks Christie! Yes that was my favorite too! How nice of you to visit my blog! Thanks!
It tickles me pink that you tried all of these ways with me Nancy!! And I laughed that we both tried pleated skirts!!
But I do think these shoes are almost like sneakers and we just have to find different things to wear with them!!
I think we get used to one look but it’s our perspective that makes it seem wrong….others like it!!
And now you are making me want to wear these more. I loved how two of the days I wore them, people commented how cool they were!!
Xoxo

Haha, it was fun to try it with your style ideas! I loved it the most with my dress, what surprised me a lot!
I love how universal brogues are!! You can wear them with almost everything!

They are versatile , they are just not my style.
I actually have a pair of brogues on my wish list. I think that they are a nice alternative to wearing heels. Anyway! I really love that outfit with the chinos. It is so chic! I also hope that you have had a great day today!

I’d rather wear sneakers then brogues though, they are just a difficult shoe in my eyes!
I’d never had thought to wear brogues with knee socks, so that they look like boots 🙂 Very clever, and it’s a surprisingly great look too. My favourite, though, is the one with the pleated skirt. I don’t think I own a pair of brogues, like you I wouldn’t know what to wear them with 🙂 xxx

I can understand that, they are not my favorite shoes.
I love brogues and have a few pairs. I like them the most with your chinos here, Nancy – I think brogues look best with a slimmer leg or a shorter skirt, and I like hosiery with them. What a fun way to play with a “difficult’ pair of shoes! I’m glad you opened your eyes to different ways to wearing them!
Author
I did, but they will never be a pair that I would like to wear!
I’m a big fan of brogues, I’ve got three pairs! Two in black and one pink pair. You’re right that they look good with skinny jeans but you’ve proven that you can wear them with so many other things. You look fabulous in every outfit, Nancy! I also love that you and Jodie decided to do the post together!
Big hugs

Thanks Suzy! They will not be my favorite pair of shoes though!
So much to love here. I adore the way you styled the brogues with the dress and the skirt. Yes, yes, yes!! Would not have thought of that myself…duh, I can’t think my way out of a wet paper bag!! But I love it. I like your reasoning for wearing the sheer tights with the pleated skirt, too. Something about that skirt shouldn’t be weighed down with heavier hose.
Also completely adore the green sweater/blazer/jeans with the brogues. Perfection. I have a green sequin top coming from Poshmark. So looking forward to wearing it.

Ah a green sequin top! That sounds fabulous!
I think this pair is really versatile because I really like them with all of the outfits you have shared. I have one pair of shoes that I struggle with so will need to see what I can do.

I love your fishnets under your jeans! That is a great idea!!!

Thanks!
I love brogues, Nancy! And while you seem to be struggling with your affection for them, I really like the way they look in all of these outfits. My favorite way to wear brogues is with maxi skirts or dresses and ankle socks. I like the school girl vibe that look creates. I also like brogues for their practicality when I want interesting footwear but need flat and comfortable shoes. Heading over to check out Jodie’s post now! Thanks for linking with me.
