The trend that you now see a lot is the dress over a trousers trend. I love it. I already wore it in the nineties, damn how old I sound now, and in the zero’s it was already a trend again. Funny is that many men don’t like this trend at all. What do they know!
*Ad This dress is part of a collaboration where I was allowed to chose some items.
How to wear the dress over trousers trend
The most stylish way is to wear a shirt dress half open on trousers. That’s how you see it in the magazines and on Pinterest. Today I am wearing a short dress, which I would never wear as a dress, over trousers. A young girl could easily wear this chain print dress with a pair of beautiful high heels underneath. Because I don’t feel comfortable wearing a short dress, I wear it over a pair of trousers. In the 90’s I already wore dresses over trousers, I received a lot of comments about it. I can’t remember that there was any person who liked it. Except me then! And I have worn it a lot, nobody is strong enough to not let me wear what I want.(except Gerben)
Chain printed dress
I was able to choose this dress for a collaboration with Femme Luxe. Although I have already said in this post that I am not a very huge fan of this kind of print, I have chosen it again. I think I like it better than I thought. This print was already seen in the 60s and 70s and was later widely used by Versace. And now you can see it again a lot in the fall collections.
How I wear the dress over trousers trend now in my fifties
Back then I also wore a short dress over trousers, not a shirt dress. You could say that I wore it here. Like the trend now is, only those are more leggings then trousers. This chain print dress, doesn’t it have wonderful colors, with jeans is for me a perfect match. You all know that I don’t like jeans that much. So now I am wearing jeans but hiding it a bit! Lol! The mules and the hairband give me a bit of a 70s feel. Well, a lot of decades come along in this post! The hairband is the strap of the dress, but I like the lacquer belt better.
Would really appreciate it if you would share my outfit on Pinterest! Just hoover over the photo!

What a great way to wear a dress! I love how it looks belted and with trousers. The added headband is a perfect touch to kick this entire outfit up a notch!

I have always liked the dress over pants look – this is a lovely example of it. I like this bold pattern, and love that you tied the self-belt as a headband!

Hi Nancy, it’s been a while – busy summer! I love how you’ve done this look with a ’60s vibe, that’ s how I would wear a dress over trousers too! I like some dress over trouser looks more than others. I think you’ve nailed it here. Xx
Author
Well, thank you very much! I hope you had a good summer! But it’s not over yet, it’s still summer. Let’s enjoy!
I love this and I especially love the creativity of using the belt for a headband! I styled a dress over jeans a few weeks ago. I think it’s such a cool look, but people oftentimes do look twice!

I am so happy to finally have a fashion related post to link up with you!! Nancy, you wear everything so seemingly easy and well. I don’t know if it takes you a while to put a look together, but you always look so comfortable in your clothes and your skin. This is genius. That bold print is eye catching. Love the dress belted with the distressed denim. And those shoes!! Those shoes!!! Head to toe stylish.
Love Suzanne’s easy, breezy outfit, too. You gals are such inspiration!!

Wow! Thanks Leslie. That is a kind comment. I don’t think very long about a outfit. I grab what feels good to me without thinking if it looks okay! If I feel good in it and I love it that is enough for me!
This is such a modern way to style this Nancy. I’m totally going to copy this!!

I think I wouldn’t wear such a short dress as a single dress either…Might be the age! Love how you have styled it with the casual trainers and colourful shoes. It makes your outfit casual chic with a touch of summer and a touch of autumn. Great choices! Love, Lieske

The dress is a look I rather like and is a good way to wear dresses that are too short now. Your shirt dress does definately have an 80,s Versace vibe. Love the use of the tie as a headband. Many thanks for hosting Nancy.

I wore that trend too back in the 90s, although I’m not sure it’s one I would wear again. I think I’m far too short to wear it stylishly. I do love your modern-day take on the trend, by wearing a tunic-like dress (that print is just lovely) with cropped jeans and those magnificent mules! xxx

Fabulous mules right! Love them too, what a color! Thanks Ann!
