I always buy a new single piece of clothing quite impulsively. In the past……. or well, about 8 years ago, I used to go shopping in the city. Checking out every store. First look at what was in stores and then come back again to buy it. When my health was even better, but that was longer ago, I could easily shop all day. I even managed to go shopping with my sister-in-law from 10am till 11pm. Well including lunch and dinner of course….. Oh those were the days. But now I can’t even remember the last time I went shopping in real stores. Then I would have to use the wheelchair, it’s difficult….
Think better when buying a single piece of clothing
So I buy everything online and often it is a single piece of clothing. While you often buy sets in a store. Especially when the staff are good sales persons, like we had in the store where I worked. But then again…..you might be wearing that set all the time as a set and not be creative with the single items at all…… Soooo, I often buy a single item and then I think, what should I wear with it? Now I hear you thinking, well Nancy, I think you have plenty of choice. Yes, you’re absolutely right about that.
But these trousers, for example. I would wear it with a simple white t-shirt and these white sneakers in the spring, but for now I thought a sweater was so simple.( yeah that’s me saying that….) And I actually think that white is the only colour that would look great on these trousers.
Get your closet in your head or don’t buy single pieces
And then I saw Suzy, The Grey Brunette, and she was wearing a preppy look. Et voila! So just a sweater but with a blouse underneath. Where Suzy lets the blouse come out completely, I did a half tuck of which I’m not entirely sure if it worked. Like it but I should not have bought these trousers as a single piece. Remember to ask myself when I buy something: With what can I wear it? At least 3 other items!
Now you might also be thinking, dear Nancy, this isn’t you at all, right. But since I often go cycling(not only for fun, but also when I have to go somewhere that is not that far away) and it’s much too cold for a dress or skirt (even with leggings) I now often wear trousers, at least when I go away by bicycle. And always wearing jeans feels so boring to me. Even when I have two different pairs to choose from, lol! And yes, I do know that the belt isn’t in the middle, it isn’t suppose to be in the middle….
I would really appreciate it if you would follow me on Instagram.

I often have a dilemma with a single item. I picked up a pre-loved skirt in coral this week, beautiful colour but needs tights and dark opaque ones look bad…plus which shoes, I don’t have boots in the right colours….aargh

Hahha, yes awfull is that isn’t it! But I am sure you will find something that works with the skirt.
I love stripes Nancy. You look amazing and it’s a good Style for cycling.

I love it, Nancy!! You look fabulous, and I’m so chuffed that I inspired you 🙂
I think the belt at the side with the half tuck looks FAB….I think you might have been inspired by Trinny, right??!
Big hugs

Yes indeed! I get a lot of inspiration of Trinny, think she is amazing!

Love the preppy vibes. Stripes like this are always a good idea!

Thank you Andrea!
What a great preppy look! I love the look of these trousers, and they look great paired with white sneakers. I have to say that i rarely buy a set together, it does happen but not very often. I feel like gray and pink also go well together, and black. Looking forward to seeing how else you style them.

I should do that too Jennifer! Thanks!
That is such a cute sweater and I love it styled with the trousers. I think I only ever by a single piece, and then I often get it home and wonder what to wear with it. Skirts are especially challenging.
Author
Haha, weird is that isn’t it! Why do we keep on doing that? Thanks Amy!
I used to shop all day too but now I shop online. I get irritated in store, the selection isn’t as good and I can’t find my size. I also end up with way too many impulse buys. When I shop online I can leave my cart and then come back later!
Have a great weekend Nancy!

Yes that is totally true! And I also leave things in my basket to think it over, it does help.
I like it! And I am sure you will come up with more outfits with them! I just bought 3 dresses while thrifting and can’t wait to wear them. I’ll add toppers until it warms up. And one has buttons all the way down so I will wear it as a tunic (too short to be worn as a dress) and as a jacket.

I like button down dresses even better as a tunic! Thanks Mireille!
I was just talking about stripes today. Love this look with the trousers and sneakers too! My Pn condition doesn’t allow me to wear trousers at the moment, but I love the look!
Happy Friday Nancy!

I do hope your condition gets better soon Jess! Thanks!
You shop like I do, Nancy. And for the most part it works. But every once in awhile, it doesn’t. Still I think this outfit looks great on you! And yes, I can see the Suzy inspiration.

I am totally not a fan………lol sorry.
Oh Nancy, I am so guilty of buying single items, too! When I’m shopping, I think about the items in my closet I can wear with the new single item-but it rarely works out as well as I imagined when I get the piece home! Love the way you styled the grey trousers with bold stripes-you wear the classics with great style! Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend!
Author
I am glad I’m not the only one Di! Thanks!
How right you are, Nancy. There is little more frustrating than buying a piece that you love only to realize that you’ve got nothing in your wardrobe to wear with it.

I love that sweater! It looks so soft and cozy! I like how those pants look with your sweater. I hope you have a great weekend!

Thank you very much Laura!
Your marathon shopping days remind me of days shopping with my grandmother! We’d leave right after breakfast and shop until well past dinner time. She loved sales and we’d go item by item rack by rack through some of her favorite stores. We had to try on ANYTHING that was in our size range that she even remotely liked and then she’d veto 1/2 of them! Your pants fit great and they look both stylish and comfortable. I like to pair my gray pants with shades of pink too. Really I think gray is supposed to be the new black and treated as a neutral but I still tend to wear mine with pastels and white and maybe black.

Oh those days are wonderful aren’t they! I think pastels good work indeed!
You look terrific, Nancy!
I am loving the preppy vibes.
Thanks for the linkup!

Nancy you always look so good- effortlessly! Thank you so much for featuring me!! You’re too sweet!

Totally my pleasure Lucy!
I tend to buy single items instead of sets. But then again I love putting together different things.
In fact, I would pair pink or blue or even purple with those pants. They almost look like silver, so I just think they would go with all the fun colors.
Come on, prove me wrong, LOL

Hahaha, okay, next challenge! Wearing colour with these trousers!
Nancy, I think the shirt halfway out looks really chic, especially with your belt off center! I almost always buy single items and rarely buy an entire outfit. It’s more fun that way! Thanks for the link party!

Yes I think it is Marsha, we need to stay creative!
Those trousers would work with many different colours, I think.
I’m loving the striped jumper with it, though.
I must say that I have never in my life bought a complete set of clothing when out shopping. I always buy single items, and no, I’m not always good at working out in advance which items in my wardrobe they would actually go with 🙂 xxx

I think that the trap of buying sets is that it can be very boring isn’t it?
That sweater is very adorable, and I really like how it looks matched with those pants.

Lucy’s way of styling animal print is really on point. Pulled it off really well without being over the top but still daring.
I love wear grey so I see why you could not resist. I love wearing grey with green, pink, yellow, beige, black, more grey. It is such an elegant color. Thank you for hosting.
Author
Yes it’s indeed a elegant colour! I think after white, pink is the best colour with grey. Thanks Sabina.
I think the pants are fabulous! You have the look of the famous actress Lauren Bacall going on with your broad shoulders and slim legs. Great look for you!

I only wish Karin! Thank you.
Thanks for the link-party, Nancy – phew, I made it just under the wire!
I often buy one-offs – and sometimes they become “closet orphans” as they just don’t go with anything else I own (which is hard to believe, but you know this, right??). I like the pants, but I don’t love them. They’re…okay. I do like how you styled this outfit – I think the half-tuck is good with it.
Author
They are okay, I agree, but they are just perect for cycling!
Cute, cute, cute! This is such a cool, modern look. Preppy but still very you! I love it! (Sorry I am comment bombing you today! I want to catch up with everyone now that I have time!)
