Wearing summer colours in winter-The Thrifty Six

wearing summer colours in winter

Leave it to Jodie to come up with  colours! And first, a very warm welcome to our new member Jodie! Now wearing colour  for me is a thing in summer, let alone in winter! And it has to be pre loved here of course too! Well let’s take a look at what summer colours we wear in winter!

Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.

I had to check my closets to see with what I could come up with. I have a few summer colours, but they are summer clothes and not pre loved. And I didn’t feel like buying something as I just don’t wear colours that often. But a colour combination that always reminds me of summer is blue and white. It feels nautical, I can almost hear the sea, the seagulls, the warmth of the sun.

And this lovely King Louie jacket with sailing boats on it is then perfect to wear. With a pre love navy white striped jumper with pearls and a red detail at the sleeves.

And now take a look at my summer colour dressed fashion friends!

I wear bright colours all year round, but I tend not to wear pale shades in winter because of mud and rain. So when Jodie suggested “Summer Colours in Winter” as our theme this month I immediately thought of pastel shades. I found this pale blue Hobbs trench coat in a charity shop for less than £10. It’s fantastic quality and perfect for spring and summer. I’ve teamed it with lilac trousers and bag, white boots and a floral print top. I’m ready for summer now!

Well I couldn’t entirely avoid black—it’s one of my most-worn colors, after all—but I’m hoping this very bright, cobalt blue dress makes up for it! I thrifted this dress from the same super cute consignment store where I bought my prom gown. It’s such a summery piece with the bright color and crocheted texture, so I tried to winterize it with a black leather jacket and booties. I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about the look… but my boyfriend said it’s in his top 10 favorite outfits of mine!

February’s T6 theme is ‘Summer colours in Winter’…

…when I think Summer colours, I always think pastels!

These pure wool trousers give me the best of both worlds…

…cosy and warm, yet alive with pretty pastel colours!

An original pair of 1970’s flares, re-tailored by me for the modern aesthetic…

…I think they’re rather cool!

Powder blue leather jacket, pashmina and bag make the look complete.

blue and lilac in winter

It always seems so sad to only wear dark, muted colors for the winter months, so I grabbed my thrifted lilac jeans and winterized them with a thrifted Cabi navy sweater and combat boots along with some faux fur details.
Just wait until you see how Lesley styled her outfit!

When Jodie suggested the theme Summer Colors in Winter, I took it a step further and styled Summer Clothes in Summer Colors in Winter. It required lots of layering to make my thrifted white sundress and preloved kimono top (both are by Zara) work for a warm and colorful winter style. I felt like a giant happy Easter egg in the snow!
That’s it for this month! We hope we can inspire you to buy pre loved clothing more, or at least to give it a try! Until next time!

Nancy, this is such a cute outfit! You are really rocking the jeans lately! I love that you went with nautical colors for this challenge and your red boots are magnificent!

The blue and white is perfect for the upcoming summer and look at you print mixing. You ought to add this to my pinned post on my FB page (jtouchofstyle) and I’ll include you in my Saturday daily outfit post!!
Next time, I’ll try not to use colors as the prompt, haha.

As you know, I wear colour all year round, although I tend to wear paler colours more in Summer.
I love your nautical look – and in particular the King Louie jacket – which of course screams Spring and Summer rather than Winter. But perfect for a sunny and Springlike Winter’s day at the seaside, I guess! xxx

Oh, I agree…blue and white are definitely summer especially when they’re a nautical print! Though, why is that? Don’t people go on boats in the winter? Hmmm! Anyway, you look fabulous as always! I hope you have a wonderful week and will join me on Friday for a link party!

It always fun to try to figure out how to interpret a theme especially if it is not something that you are drawn to usually. Love the addition of the boots. I really wear color year round more nowadays so it is not a stretch to wear color in colder months and sometimes I just wear a summer dress with a sweater.
