Last Friday was Gerben’s birthday, so we went away for a night. He’s not really into celebrating his birthday. He doesn’t want to be the center of attention. So we went to an Inn where we’d been with friends in 2021. We went there for the amazing food. You can choose from a 4, 5, or 6-course dinner and specify what you don’t like. And it’s truly amazing. We think it’s worthy of a Michelin star. But first, we drove to a museum to see the Mucha experience.
One night away, what to do?

Alphonse Mucha was an Art Nouveau artist, and the experience was in 3D. I’m not much of an Art Nouveau fan, more of the Art Deco period afterward, but it was beautiful, and the experience was a lot of fun. I discovered I once owned a mug and a dress inspired by his style. In the afternoon, we went to the Inn, and in the evening, we enjoyed a delicious 6-course dinner. We spent 4.5 hours at the table, I love that. Gerben had a wine and I had a non-alcoholic package.
Now, I’ve tried non-alcoholic wine before, but you really shouldn’t. I don’t think there exist a good non-alcoholic wine. Correct me if I am wrong. The bubbles were delicious though, and, had at one course, tea which was incredible. Never had tea with dinner, but t was perfect.
- Some of the outfits I wore. New burgundy skirt.
- My favourite, the suede pleated skirt.
- Especially love the jacket.
- Pre loved, both jacket and dress.
The next day, after a delicious and relaxed breakfast (I absolutely love breakfast when we are a night away), we headed to the Westerbork Camp Memorial Center for a walk. During the war, it was a transit camp for Jews and Sinti. We’d been there several times before, so this time we were just going for a walk. But it’s incredibly impressive, of course.
What else was going on
- Breakfast was served at the table, not abundant but deliciously fresh.
- Parabolic antennas near Camp Westerbork.
- The monument at Camp Westerbork.
Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious bowl of pea soup and headed home. Always lovely! We absolutely love a night away like this. You’re truly away for a while, and the cats can be left unattended. Although a dear friend did clean the litter box. Big cats poop a lot…
On Sunday we went to the national park for a brisk walk. And in the evening, Gerben made a delicious fish risotto. That was the end of a wonderful long weekend. Monday was as usual, laundry, working out, blogging, and organizing things. Tuesday, I went to the nailstylist. And I had a phone consultation with the vascular specialist. My cholesterol is now 1.5! That’s great.
So now I have to focus on gaining a few pounds. Wednesday and Thursday consisted of working out and householding. And, of course, blogging. I do that every weekday. We have another wonderful weekend ahead of us, and I wish you the same! Do you go away for one night often?
- We still saw some mushrooms, not much though.
- ,,Walking,, in the National Park.
- The pea soup at Westerbork.

Sounds like a wonderful memorable night away, although i would baulk at such a long time at the table! Your cholesterol score is so impressive. Have a good weekend!

Oh I love long diners! But 4,5 hours is enough. Thanks Gail.
I have only been a night away once since the ex left (which was amazing because a friend took me to see Jane Goodall as a birthday gift), at first because there were always cat meds to give and then I just got used to it. But why is it that breakfast is always more special if it’s not at home, lol?
It sounds like a wonderful weekend and I envy you for the Mucha experience because I’m actually a big fan! I love both Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
Happy Birthday to Gerben and another lovely weekend for you two!

It is such good fun just one night! Thank you very much.
Oh, it sounds like a wonderful night away! I really need to do that more often with my husband: if we did it for one night, we really could leave the boys on their own at this point. The oldest living at home is about to turn 15. I love all of your outfits this week: I need to wear more skirts and dresses during the week.

So glad you such a wonderful meal! I think you are right about no good non-alcoholic wine. Maybe go for mocktails? Love every single look here. Your skirt collection is fabulous!

Thanks for sharing your magical getaway with us, and a very happy birthday to Gerben! It sounds like you had a wonderful time, and the food looks absolutely amazing! American culture is so terrible about meals and food, in general. Rush, rush, rush! Europeans have the right idea! Love all of your outfits from the week-your style is so cohesive and chic. Thanks for hosting the link up, and hope you have a good upcoming weekend!

Oh I never liked to eat my meal quickly, I enjoy it to much. Thank you very much Di!
Happy birthday to Gerben! I’m actually with him in not really being into celebrating my birthday.
You did choose the perfect getaway though. Your dinner looks delicious and I’m loving the sound of the Mucha exhibition.
Westerbork sounds impressive, quite a sobering experience, I presume.
And how fabulous is that skirt in the third photo! xxx
Author
Thanks Ann. Yes it is sobering, and almost unbelievabla when you read the stories of the people who waited for transport. Just horrible, and have we learned in all those years……..
That sounds like such a lovely night away! I try to talk my husband into an overnight trip for his birthday often too since he rarely wants to celebrate in any way either.
Author
Haha, well a night away is a perfect gift too Joanne!
The food looks fantastic! Like little sculptures! I love that brown and orange skirt you wore too! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Author
Indeed Laura! Thank you very much.
Hi, Nancy – Wow, just one night away and you two did so much! It sounded like a wonderful big night. My husband and I don’t usually do that and we should. You have inspired me. And you always look so great. What a good think, to have to gain weight. Lol! Thanks for a fascinating post – Angie

I am glad you enjoyed reading it Angie! Thank you very much.
Happy birthday to Gerben! Sometimes, i think those little one or two day trips are more relaxing than a week or two. You don’t have to pack as much or worry about as much. I don’t know that I could get Mike to sit for 4.5 hours unless he’d had several beers! Then, he wouldn’t be able to walk…hahaha! And, congrats on the reduced cholesterol!!! Thank you so much for the feature, my beautiful friend as well as the new link up!

That sounds like the perfect birthday getaway! Happy Birthday, Gerben! I laughed at your note about the cats’ poops! I have not had 2 cats at the same time in many many years, and wow, that’s a lot of pooping! 😀
Love seeing your outfits, Nancy! Great work on the cholesterol! That pea soup looks so good (my favourite).

Wait until yours are adult cats! Haha, thanks Sheila!
