Food and Wine Week Throwback Tuesday #28

me with food and wine

A week of recovering from all the food and wine we had at Christmas. Doing healthy things again and working out, especially working out. We didn’t actually do much else last week. Gerben had the hole week off from work, but the weather was not nice for walking or cycling. All week it was rainy and gray. So we played some board games, which I love!

*The featured photo is from 2019 during our holiday to Rye in February. One of the best, because it was so quite everywhere that I felt like a local! This is in our favorite pub, The Standard Inn.

Delicious food and even better wine….

We mainly had a nice and relaxed breakfast and then started the day and did some things around the house. Wednesday was our friend Denise’s birthday and we went there in the evening. To celebrate her birthday with just the four of us. And wine, of course. It is not so that we have been drinking wine all week and have eaten a lot. But more than usual.

On the 31st of December, I first went for a workout in the morning and took a bath in the afternoon and then got dressed up for the evening. We had all kind of tasty tapas and a bottle of wine, of course, and at noon we opened a bottle of champagne. We didn’t really mind being with just the two of us. The champagne tasted very good by the way, normally I am not very fond of it. We were in bed at two o’clock. And slept like an ox.

A quite New Years day

On New Year’s Day we called both parents. Normally we always visit our parents on New Years Day. So it was quite relaxed to stay home. In the evening we cooked a delicious dinner and yes you’ve guessed it right, had a bottle of wine to go with it! Saturday we cleaned up the Christmas decorations, got the tree out of the house, the lights of the roof. And over sudden it looked so boring. Sunday we went to my sister and brother-in-law. And we admired his miniature Christmas village. You may have already seen it on Instagram. Very special! All those details. It’s huge! The site is Veluwse kerststal

And now normal life has started again. No more sleeping in, to much food and drinking too much wine! A lot of working out and healthy eating and regularity! Nothing wrong with that!

Don’t forget to send us your monochrome look photo!!

No more sleeping in?? That’s very sad. I have to admit that is the one thing I appreciate SO much being retired. Being able to get up when we wake up is such a blessing. Of course the cats wake us up too, but that seems fun!

Yes our cats do that too, at 6.00 o’clock! I am a morning person, love to wake-up early. But my early isn’t that early. I usually wake up at 07.00.

Yes indeed, but if you notice that you feel a lot better then, it’s easier!

I’m having such a hard time with the no more sleeping in but am finding working out, drinking lots of water, and eating healthy to be almost a relief of sorts. I feel so much better when I eat healthy and take care of myself but I was determined to treat the time between Christmas and Monday Jan 4th as a vacation since we never did have one this year. I relaxed and indulged. It sounds like you did as well!

Exactly, I totally agree! I don’t mind during holidays to drink more and eat more and less healthy. But I can already feel it that I don’t anymore!

Today was the boys first day back at school: they all made it on time. We sure did enjoy having no schedules for 2 weeks and at least half of the time had nice weather! Love looking at that yummy food: inspiring me to put together so tasty vitals!

Back to routine again it is! It is relaxed because we don’t have to go anywhere. And we can’t go anywhere! Haha, there are some advantages!

It looks like you had quite an enjoyable time, even if most of it was spent with just the two of you. There’s a lot to be said for a quiet, relaxing New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day! All the food looks mouthwateringly delicious. We haven’t dismantled our tree yet, we usually leave it until the 6th, as is traditional here in Belgium. But it’s nice to get into normal routines again, even if for me that means going back to work, if only part-time. Wishing you and Gerben a happy and healthy 2021. Virus, be gone! xxx

Thanks Ann! Yes that is the rule here too, for the catholic I think. And although we are, we always want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Ugh, such a bummer to have to cut back on drinking and eating! But I’m with you and have to work on it again. Your food looks amazing!!! Wishing you a wonderful new year, Nancy!

It’s fun to indulge for a few days but I like to get back to working out and eating more sensibly. That said, I’m working so much this month I don;t have time to exercise as much as I’d like. I like to go for a walk at lunchtime though when it isn’t raining. Thanks for linking up!
