One of the most exciting things about winter is building a winter wardrobe and to get your closet ready. The chilly season brings the most amazing trends. Dark colors and layering are all the buzz. Influencers consider it an obligation to update their “Outfit of the Day,” which leaves millions of people in awe. All that means that the fashion and trends this year have been taken up a few notches.
This hype around winter styles gets us all excited and ready to look our best. Hence, we have prepared a list of fashion tips to build the best winter wardrobe.
Get Your Closet Ready for Winter
Most of us love the comfort of a dress. It makes us look sophisticated, and they are not too complicated to style either. Slip dresses over high and low necks have made a dramatic comeback in the latest trends. You can make it a formal look with heels or a casual one with sneakers. If you’re worried about feeling cold, you can wear skin-colored leggings under sheer stockings. Doing this will keep you warm without clashing with the rest of your outfit.
Invest In Long Coats
Long coats will never go out of fashion. Not only are they functional, but they also make you look very chic. The number of styles available in the market can make your head spin. The best thing about these coats is that they are pretty versatile. You can make them the focal point of your outfit by tying them close or leaving them open to complement the top you’re wearing under them.
Coats are often a one-time investment. Purchase a good quality coat so that it serves its purpose for a long time and so that you can pair it with different items for various outfits. Choosing neutral colors will allow you to pair it with other looks easily. However, don’t hesitate to buy a brightly colored coat, as it will always make heads turn. You can browse the internet to find stores like Charles Vermont to find the best winter coats to add to your closet.
Oversized furry coats are also making a comeback. If you want to go for an effortless look this season, go for a long furry coat and pair it with the right tights for a chic look.
Winter is the perfect time to layer different pieces together to build the perfect look. It is best that you begin with a light fabric for the first layer. Do not make the mistake of wearing a thick inner layer. You might regret that decision once indoors. For a stylish addition, you can opt for turtlenecks.
The next layer should be a warm fabric, preferably sleeveless, to avoid bulking. Put on a full-sleeved coat on top of the mid-layer. You can be as experimental as you want with this one. A long trench coat will be perfect for a classy yet cozy look. Even a blazer on top will make you feel like a boss. You can have fun with layering by mixing and matching colors and patterns. Don’t hesitate to take risks; your unique pick might steal the show.
Lingerie Over Clothing
You probably have come across this fashion trend on Instagram by now. Most people find it bizarre, but it can be a head-turner if done the right way. You can layer a lingerie top over turtlenecks. Play it safe with an all-black over-white look, or make a statement with a pop of color.
It might not sound the most practical to style lingerie in winter. However, ensure that the shirt you layer it over is warm. You can even style it with a coat or a leather jacket, which brings us to our next tip.
Leave Leather Jackets in your closet for winter
Leather jackets have been in trend for a long time now. No clothing item can beat the boldness that a leather jacket brings to your look. What’s changed is that this item is not limited to nights out anymore. You can style it over a dress with leggings for the perfect brunch look. A leather jacket with either bold boots or heels can also be great for a night out with your friends.
Everyone knows the power of a well-fitting suit. Oversized formal suits have quickly caught people’s eye because of their boldness and carefree vibes. They are also known for being versatile too. A sleek bun with suits will make you office-ready, while small hoops with hair down will work perfectly for a classy lunch date. Put a casual shirt underneath to tone the look down slightly.
This trend is too good to miss out on. If you are one of those who like to experiment with something bold, this is the trend that you should try. Get yourself a leather dress, long or short, but make sure it is the right cut for you. Pair them with high-heeled boots to complete the bold look. If you want to step up the power radiating off of this look, add some light jewelry to compliment the strong dress.
Sweaters On Top Of Skirts
Do not be afraid to style unorthodox pieces together this winter. Sweaters over long skirts are an easy fix when you can’t think of anything to wear. A plain woolen one will work fine with a checkered skirt. You can even opt for a silk skirt under the sweater if you wish to add a fancy touch. Moreover, long dresses under sweaters are also popular. You can dress up or dress down with this idea according to the occasion. So get your closet ready for sweaters!
Don’t hesitate to experiment with your style. The trends might offer you many options, but the best thing you can wear is confidence. So, keep your head high and rock this upcoming winter season in style. One thing to remember is to avoid buying popular pieces that will go out of fashion quickly. Get your closet ready, invest in neutral and staple items. A smart idea would be to buy capsule wardrobe items you can use for several outfits this season!
Yes to all these ideas! I’m looking forward to bringing all my coats out.
I actually can’t wait to start wearing my warm dresses, knits and coats.
Not sure about the lingerie over clothing thing though 🙂 xxx
Well, a lovely elegant top……I might try it!
Great tips, Nancy! I’d never heard of the lingerie on top. Hmmmm… I like the ability to layer in winter, but wish there was more bright clothing available.
I understand that Michelle, because you know I love black and there is a lot of black in the collections.
The lingerie top over turtleneck trend sounds fun! Esp for a date night!
Indeed! And lots of choice this season!
Love all these great tips! Might have to try the lingerie layering.
Great ideas Nancy, thanks for sharing. I love to layer when it’s cold xx Jacqui
I even love to layer when it is warm, lol.
I have so many light coats and jackets… So excited to wear them again. And I love wearing sweaters over skirts and dresses so I keep most of mine out year round.
I love sweaters too! Thanks Mireille!
I was thinking today that my fall and winter clothes are my favorites. I love turtlenecks for layering. Adding a puffer vest and a coat over and voila, you are out the door. Well, maybe better add something on the bottom half first!!
I really like the blue look you shared. The half tucked chunky sweater looks great with the skirt. You wear blue so well. I know you love your black, though.
Thanks Leslie! I love blue a lot too, darker blue that is!
