![black dresses and jackets](https://nancysfashionstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/why-I-dont-wear-dresses-anymore-7.jpg)
Oh finally I bought a black dress again. I only have two….. I have noticed that I have been buying fewer dresses and more skirts in the last year. I think that’s a shame because I love dresses. Well I like skirts a lot too, so it’s not that it is a disaster. And it’s also not because I already have like 50 dresses. You might be surprised that I don’t have that much dresses. I’ll tell you why I buy dresses less often.
The reason why I don’t like to wear a dress anymore
I use supplemental oxygen 24/7, which most of you probably know. At home I always have a tube in my face. But when I go out I use special glasses. The tube then runs over my back and at the bottom of my top it goes into my portable device. That doesn’t work with a dress. Then I always have to wear a cardigan or jacket over it if you want to make the tube invisible. And I don’t always want that. Actually, I like a dress better with nothing worn over it.
And I find it annoying when it stands out like that. Quite irritating. I do my best to change my mindset in this regard. I should be proud that I’ve lasted so long with such bad lungs! So maybe I’ll just have to wear a dress without a cardigan more often!
Black pleated dress
But isn’t this dress lovely! So simple and that is just the way I love it. Stretchy, so it is also comfortable to wear. The skirt has beautiful pleats and a super length. And I bought it on sale! Haha, I can never succeed in the sale. Or perhaps I don’t give sale a chance. Because I also bought black cropped trousers. Also reduced. Wow, I get under a train with such luck……as we say here……but it probably sounds really weird in English.
Anywayssss, the black dress worn here with ankle cowgirl boots and I could not decide wich jacket I liked better. The brown one has huge shoulder pads which I love. The dress definitely needs a wider belt to give it a bit more structure. And I only noticed in the photos that the dress was quite sheer. From now on, just wear a slip underneath.

I think you are one brave woman who just does not give up that easily. I totally understand your sensitivity of not wanting people seeing your tube but I think it shouldn’t bother you. Lots of people have some conditions that they can’t hide and we as human should respect them and show them our understanding. I love this dress, it looks great on you. Have a great weekend. Anna

I love the dress with both jackets too, Nancy! I’m sorry that your health problems prevent you from wearing dresses. I can’t even imagine having to use a tube all the time 🙁
I recently bought a black dress too, mine is a little similar. I got it in the sales at Salsa and I still haven’t worn it!!

Nancy you look stunning in this dress, actually you always do but I really love this! I don’t blame you for not liking how the whole supplemental oxygen tubes work with dresses – I know you are so happy to have the cool glasses and tube but you love fashion and want to look a certain way and there is nothing wrong with that!

Indeed Kellyann! Thank you very much.
Oxygen tube or not, you are the star! It is wonderful that you are able to cycle and do all of the things you do without being incumbered by big equipment! I love this dress on you and tube or not, you should wear your dresses the way you feel like wearing them. I do understand though about taking pictures. The glasses are sure a cool piece of technology to make you more comfortable out and about.

Beautiful looks! That dress is so flattering on you! I completely understand why you don’t want to wear dresses as often. I would feel the same about the supplemental oxygen tubes. I love both jackets with this dress.

Both jackets look terrific with this dress. The rusty-orange one is spectacular with your hair color, and the one with the buttons has a lot of presence. I can definitely understand how the visible tube could interfere with the overall look you’re putting together and that you wouldn’t always want it to show if you feel that it detracts from the look. That said, if I saw you out and about with your tube visible, I wouldn’t think negatively of it.

Thank you very much Sally! That is very kind!
I love that dress and it looks gorgeous on you! I totally understand why you don’t wear dresses that often, I would feel the same way about the supplemental oxygen tubes being visible. That being said, I think that it is amazing that you are able to cycle, exercise, and do the things that you love without being held down by big equipment. You are an inspiration Nancy and I admire your strength. Have a wonderful weekend! XO

That’s a sound enough reason for not wearing dresses that much, Nancy. I do get you’re finding it annoying that your tube stands out, and that changing your mindset on such matters isn’t straightforward. Having read your story, I know you’ve already come a long way in accepting and learning to live with your situation, and I absolutely admire you for this.
Your new black dress is absolutely gorgeous, and I can’t decide which of the jackets I prefer with it, as they both look great with the dress. I hadn’t noticed the sheerness of the dress until you pointed it out, though 🙂 xxx

I can totally understand that reasoning, but I do love how you came around to the fact that you are amazing for being around with your lungs!
It’s not a fault or embarrassment to use oxygen. You are blessed to have this option!!
And that dress is fabulous with those boots!

Oh thank you very much Emma, that means a lot to me.
I don’t wear a lot of dresses because I find them limiting in terms of outfit options—I’d rather mix and match with a top and skirt (or pants). But adding in an oxygen tube is a whole other issue! I appreciate how you speak about your condition in such a frank way and don’t let it impact your sense of style—you always look so fabulous!

You look lovely in this dress, Nancy! I like it with both jackets, too. I’m sure it’s frustrating and just so hard to have to deal with the oxygen. My mom hated wearing it, too. But, you always look beautiful so pfft to anyone who stares should you decide to go without a cardigan or coat over your tube.
Thanks for the link up!

That dress looks amazing on you, Nancy! But how frustrating to have to deal with your medical accoutrements – I get that. I think you should just go for it and let it show – I mean, who cares, aside from you? <3

Hahaha, I know! I am doing me very best! Thanks Sheila!
Nancy, both look really great. The camel one as well as the cropped black one with that fabulous skirt. I am not a huge fan of dresses, either but for different reasons obviously.
