Sometimes I ask myself the question: what things would I like to change about myself? Occasionally then you come across yourself again in life and you think, I would like to change that about myself. Usually it is about a trait or a habit. I’m not talking about looks. Because nowadays we can change what we want on our face and body. But to change something about our character is a lot harder. Because of course we have been doing certain things all our lives.
Changes are hard
What I would like to change is that I have to think before I say anything. Or rather, think carefully before I respond. I have little patience, the misery starts with that. Haha. So I often react to certain things too impulsively. And now I have to say that when I am tired it is really bad. Then I have even less patience and I respond even more on friendly, not to say rude. And I know that if I think for a moment, or perhaps an hour, or read something better, then there is no problem at all. But I go to the defense mode too quickly and I often respond too rude. And I hate that! So I would really like to change that about myself.
But how do I change?
I have no idea. Should I promise myself a cake every time I think before I talk or write? Or a skirt or dress, that would motivate me better I think. No that sounds all super materialistic. Which I am…..no doubt about that, I love ,,things,, and stuff! Or should I just accept that I am who I am. And to hope that the people I am being rude to know me better or will get to know me better. If they still want to of course! Haha! I blame it on being Dutch! No really. But I do my best to think twice! Know that!
Let’s see what I am wearing today to keep it airy!
A pre loved King Louie dress! Again? Yes again! I can’t stop buying pre loved dresses! Oh my, I blame Suzanne for that! This one is such a simple one, but the fit is perfect, it has pockets and a v-neck. What more can a girl ask for! And what about the sandals! Gosh, I love these. They are from my favorite brand of shoes and boots, Tamaris,( no sponsored post) and they are so very comfortable! And that is all it takes! A dress and gorgeous shoes. And a £1 ring from a antique shop in Lewes! And a smile!
I would really appreciate it if you would share my outfit on Pinterest! Just hoover over the photo!
What I would like to change about myself is most definitely my FEET. With a broad foot and a high instep buying g shoes is hard work and they can be very uncomfortable as high fronted shoes do not have the depth I need.

I can understand that, it makes buying shoes a lot less fun I think.
The things I’d most like to change about myself are sadly things I have no control over! I wish I was born with a head of thick, healthy hair but that was not to be! And I do wish my eyes were as good as they were when I was young and didn’t need glasses – ha!! Other than that I am good with the rest!

Well, your hair always looks thick and very nice! And glasses…. yeah…. we get older!
While change is SO hard, I think it’s good we try to work on evolving. I’m trying to be more spontaneous. It’s so hard for me because I’m a planner. But little by little, I can incorporate a little change into my life…..
I love that you are enjoying preloved items. You should join us for the #thriftedchicstylechallenge on Instagram this week from May 1-3. Just use that hashtag and follow the hosts, and show us your great pieces!!

Nancy such a cool look and love your poses! You come across as the person that you are describing in your post. So I would not be suprised with you being blunt or anything 😉 Does that mean I am getting used to all things Dutch ..haha… I feel really comfortable in the Netherlands so it seems to be just my kinda thing. Really like your post. xo Sabina
Author
Yeah Sabina, you are already used to it! haha, thanks love!
I love that dress! My goal this month is to find some dresses and skirts and hopefully find them pre loved! To change about myself? Would love to learn patience! I think being blunt is a European thing, I grew up and France and my husband who is born and raised in the South had to get used to it. I tend to say things how they are but I am learning to not blurt out things, lol!

I already learned it online, now I have to learn it irl!
I love your shoes!
What I would like to change… mmmmm, a lot, but does it make me a better person? I don’t think so… I know I fall back in old habits!

Haha, you are great as you are!
Cute post Nancy, I would change my shape – I’m typical pear shape and want bigger boobs!!! i would also love to have curly hair – still dark but the opposite to my poker straighter hair! Thanks for sharing, you look super in that dress. Great post my friend. Jacqui Mummabstylish

Ah yeah, bigger boobs for me too please!
For a minute there, I thought you were talking about me 😉 I’m exactly the same, and can be quite rude at times, especially when I’m tired. And I don’t even have the excuse of being Dutch 😉 When something angers me, I can explode, and regret it 10 minutes later. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to change though, unless it comes automatically with age. The things I’d like to change about myself – if there were something like a magic wand – is that I am hypersensitive. Oh, and I’d love not to have vertigo! On a lighter note, I’m loving your King Louie dress. I’m always surprised at how easy they are found second-hand. I’ve just found a KL sundress in a charity shop while I was away. Gorgeous sandals too, and of course accessorized by your lovely smile! xxx

Ha that’s funny because I never would have thought you can be rude! I am hypersensitive too and far too observative.
What a fab post, Nancy! I think I would probably change my impatience too…. sometimes I can come across as a bit rude (but only to my husband LOL!!!!!).
Love the dress on you – it’s simply perfect!

Well I come across rude often! Haha, we look alike!
I tend to just say what I think too, and to be honest, I’ve stopped trying to change it. I’m honest but not mean with it and I figure that’s ok

Thanks, that is a good way of looking at it!
What a great post. There are at least a couple of things I could change in my character. And honestly the way you described yourself – I can very much be like that sometimes too. I need to think before I speak more often and sometimes I have to eat my words lol.
I love this pre-loved dress of yours, I love the retro feel. I bought a similar one which has artsy white dots in a red background. Will for sure wear it in May. =) And honestly, jealous of your super nice and sunny weather!
Looking forward to all this week’s posts on my blog, especially my birthday party posts on Saturday and Sunday and The Sunday Showcase Linkup. So glad you will be a part of it, also. =)

Well it looks more like winter now over here with temperatures of 9 degrees. Ridiculous! Thanks for your lovely comment and see you on Saturday!
Love this cute little dress….but love your words even more! It is SO hard to change!! I have very little patience as well..mostly with those I love most. I use to pray for patience and finally realized God was answering by sending me more and more to test my patience! haha I definitely stopped praying for patience. I really have a loose tongue and short temper…and I have come a long way but need to work on it even more.
Author
Haha, we are alike! And you are right, I am more patience with people that era not near to me!
Good luck with thinking before you speak! I wish I had more natural compassion. You wear dresses so well, if I looked that good, I’d collect them, too!

You look even better!
Hmmm….right now,our life is pretty stressful with things outside of our control so I think I’d like to be more fearless. Love this dress! Shared on my Pinterest!

Thank you very much! I appreciate that!
There are loads of things I could liat to change about my appearance, but as I grow older I’m learning to accept if not love all of me. So i think if I were to change anything it would be to have more confidence.

Yes me too!
What a lovely dress on you, Nancy! I love how the stripes line up – that is a sign of good quality. Hooray for pre-loved! Everything I’m wearing today is pre-loved!
For making a big behavioural change like the one you mention, it’s best to start with a baby step. When you feel compelled to blurt out something (maybe you feel yourself taking a deep breath), do a small physical motion, like tapping your finger on your lips, or touching two fingers together – this will be your trigger to mentally stop and ask yourself, “Do I really want to say that? How would I feel if someone said that to me?” It takes practice to change a behaviour that is ingrained, so be patient with yourself. Even if you only do it once out of 10 times, that is better than nothing. I applaud you for recognizing that you want to change! Good for you!
Author
That sounds like a good way. But even better is to ask myself if I would like someone else say that to me! Thanks!
I remember when I met you in person, we spoke about the whole Dutch rudeness thing. I know it’s a stereotype. I do also know that Dutch “directness” is a thing in general. Americans who move to the Netherlands often say that Dutch people are perhaps just more direct as to where we might “beat around the bush” on saying what we mean. However all that aside, the impression that you gave me as Nancy (not Nancy the Dutch woman, just Nancy the human being) was that you are a very kind, warm and friendly person! Of course our culture will always have an affect on how we act .. I know that the United States has influenced much of my personality. However at the end of the day, we are also so much more than Nancy from the Netherlands, Nina from the United States, etc.
Also what would I change about myself … I would love to be more neat and orderly. Also when someone makes me upset, I can loose my patience. That’s one I’m always working on.

Thanks Nina, that is a very nice comment!
There is always something we are not happy about. I wish to be more brave. To be more brave to follow my dreams. But I’m trying, step by step. Thank you for sharing this post with My Red Carpet.

Lovely dress! I love pre loved! Oh those sandals are just my style! I’m too much of a perfectionist, but my husband helps balance me because he’s not. 🙂
