I think most of you have heard that Dame Vivienne Westwood has sadly passed away. What an icon. I absolutely loved her in the 80s when she opened her shop, Sex, with Malcolm McLaren. Today, thanks to Emma, we’re doing a tribute to Vivienne Westwood.
Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.
My tribute to Vivienne Westwood
I immediately thought of tulle and lace-up boots. Because when I think of a tribute to Vivienne Westwood, I immediately think of punk. Of course this Dame is much more than that. But I wanted to keep it punky. My tulle skirt is not pre-loved, so ….. I had to go to the Vinted site. I first searched for plaid skirts.
But I didn’t find anything worthy of Vivienne Westwood. So I looked for plaid jackets. Finally I found one that resembled what I had in mind. But the seller took the time to send the jacket and I didn’t get it until last Friday. So no more time to look for something else if it didn’t fit. But it did! The perfect plaid!
Grace of Graceful Rags
I have to admit, I had never heard of Vivienne Westwood before this month’s theme was announced… I did some searching on Pinterest and was inspired by the funky pinstripe and windowpane patterns of some of Westwood’s runway looks. I searched my closet and landed on this grey and blue pinstripe skirt suit that was handed down to me by a family member. To add some of the edgy, more goth elements of the designer’s style, I opted for a dark lipstick, thrifted oxblood Mary Janes, and layered pearl necklaces. I even attempted some knee socks and mesh gloves but decided those accessories felt too costume-y. I love how powerful I felt in this outfit!

When Emma suggested a Tribute to Vivienne Westwood, I was super excited to get back to some of my punk rock/Goth roots with a thrifty twist! When I think of Dame Westwood and her personal style, I think punk, plaid, and fierce femininity. So I grabbed some punky preloved plaids in pink and purple and began my layering magic ala Dame Vivienne Westwood. I think she would approve!

I curtsy to the Queen of Fashion!…
Vivienne Westwood sadly passed away on 29th December – a massive loss to the fashion world!
Icon, legend in her own lifetime and personal hero of mine!
The Thrifty Six are proud to celebrate Vivienne in our January post.
I’m wearing three of her pieces but more than that, I’m channelling her spirit…
…rebellious, fearless and totally original – alive with anarchic attitude!
Visual architect of the punk revolution, a game-changer for me and so many others…

I was so saddened to hear that she passed away last week. She truly was a fashion icon, especially to the Brits! I love seeing how everyone interpreted this wonderful tribute.

Thank you very much my friend!
What a fantastic tribute to Dame Vivienne! Some brilliant outfits here.
Although she was much more than punk, that is where here origins lie, and you captured that brilliantly with your tulle skirt and plaid jacket. Something I would have loved to wear in my punk years! xxx

Me too! I did wear only black then of course!
I have three pieces of Vivienne Westwood: a grey Red Label blazer, a tartan skirt with massive swoops and loops of fabric, and a pair of the x Melissa plastic shoes. She was a massive talent and will be missed.
Great interpretations here!

I love your jacket, what a great find! It looks fabulous with the tulle skirt. I have a red preloved tartan jacket but I packed it away and couldn’t find it for this theme. I need to look in the loft for it.

You gals all hit the nail on the head. Terrific tribute. I have to admit, my daughter texted me that Westwood had died and I had to Google her. Once I saw some of her looks, I was reminded of her new wave and punk design aesthetic. Well done, everyone.
