Let’s Brighten Up January! The Thrifty Six

collage of bright outfits

Because it’s such a long boring month. We really need to spice it up a bit. So let’s brighten up January! February is just as bad for me, but it lasts less long. Well, I can brighten up the month with my outfits, but that won’t be with very colorful outfits, because that’s just not me. But I think this beautiful dark floral sweater, with glitter, is quite colorful! And I even wore colorful boots with it that I find surprisingly nice with it. At first, of course, I went for the black ankle boots.

Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.

Let’s Brighten Up January!

Let's Brighten Up January

Emma choose this months theme and is a good one because we all think this month is so grey don’t we? I bought a few pre loved sweaters this season and this is the first one you see. I love the colors on this one and the glitter detail. This is a real sweater to me. We say jumper to knit sweaters and sweaters are the more sporty kind a jumpers often with a hoody. If you understand what I mean.

Let’s have a look at my beautiful fashion friends!

let's brighten up January
When Emma said brighten up January, I went full on bright color blocking because it is so gray and dreary here. This preloved pink shirt dress was just handed down to me from my neighbor because it didn’t fit her anymore. This amazing scarf was borrowed stolen from my son. My neon Zara sweater, orange button down shirt, and green heart necklace were all thrifted. I felt like a box of 1980’s neon crayons and it made me so happy!

I’ve inherited this scarf years ago (the 80’s to be exact)…and all I did was wear it a few times. Why? Well for one thing, when you start wearing white in Canada, it’s basically no longer time for scarves- because it means we are straight into heat wave season. But not here in Southern Florida, where January makes it oh-so-perfect to wear! I love blue and white…oh so bright!  Unless of course, January in Florida is too early for white?!

Let's Brighten Up January

I always find January is such a dreary time of year – the festivities are over, the decorations packed away and spring is still a way off. It’s hardly a recipe for joy. But I’m fighting back with colourful outfits and a determination to stay positive. Let’s brighten up January and get through it with a smile!

What better way to brighten up January than a turquoise faux fur coat?! I am currently studying abroad in Scotland, so I took this month’s thrifty collaboration as the perfect opportunity to go to my first charity shop last week. This fun jewel-toned jacket was the perfect find and only 12 pounds! It reminds me of something Keely from the show ‘Ted Lasso’ would wear.

Blue and green should never be seen?!?…

An old saying without any real reason?

I bring you electric blue accessorised with turquoise, aqua and forest green…

…is it so terrible?

I feel like an angel in azure when I wear this striking evening dress…

It’s a feast for the eye and perfect for the Thrifty Six ‘Brighten up January’ theme.

Now didn’t we brighten up January there for a few minutes! Perhaps we motivated you to wear colors today. But better yet, we hope to inspire you to buy pre loved clothing more or at least to give it a try! Hopefully we will see you next monthe again with more from The Thrifty Six!

What a pretty sweater, Nancy! I love that shade of blue in the floral and your ankle boots are the perfect match! I really like the way it pops against the black background, too. You know I love those dark moody floral prints, too! Super pretty outfit and very much you!

That is a beautiful outfit, Nancy! Your floral sweater is so pretty and the boots are perfect with it. And I love your black skirt. While I am all about the color, I like black too.

I do love the dark floral sweater – I totally get the difference between a sweater and a jumper – and love your choice of ankle boots too! xxx

That is, indeed, a fabulous sweater! My first inclination would have also been black booties, but your choice is perfect! Love seeing all of this color…I agree with you…January and February are such blah months!

It’s nice to see bright colors in the dead of winter. I’m totally tired of black and gray.

Nothing dreary going on in any of these darling outfits. But, shhhh, yours is my favorite!! Love the sweater. Those colors, that powdery periwinkle blue in the print. And then those booties. Oh, my gosh. Perfection!! Thanks for sharing with us for the #agelessstyle link up.
