Plaid is perfect to mix with another print, but lets try to wear plaid on plaid.
I like a classic look. And I like contrasts in my outfits. Funny as I think about it. I have always liked a classic elegant look, and I have also worn it since I was a teenager. But with a contrast. For example: I’ve always been a hard rock and new wave fan. But if you loved hard rock back then, I’m talking about the time I was 15/16, you would wear short black leather skirts or jeans with a tee from your favorite band, Metallica was very popular and Ozzy of course. And always a leather jacket.
Well you didn’t see me in jeans then, I hated jeans from early on. And I found a leather skirt ordinary. So I wore pencil skirts, because I loved that. But with a leather jacket! So I fell out of tune in the middle of the group of hard rockers I was dealing with at the time. I was not interested, I wore what I liked! But that shows that at that time I was already in love with contrasts, I loved hard rock, and elegant, classic clothing.
Classic skirt with a twist
Today I also wear such a wonderful classic skirt. A plaid pencil skirt. I think I always have had a plaid pencil skirt in my closet. They are so elegant and I used to wear those always with a black top and black boots. Very predictable, but there is nothing wrong with that I believe. One should wear what one likes! But I bought this sweater, I need more sweaters I am cold all the time. And at first I thought that would look good on my mustard pencil skirt. And then I saw this skirt and I wanted to try plaid on paid.
So this is how I wear plaid on plaid
I like this combination because although it’s print on print, it isn’t to crazy. That’s because the same colors are in the skirt and sweater and only one other brighter color. Of course these boots are the perfect ones for under a pencil skirt. Sassy and sexy, can you hear my whip popping! Lol.
I am wearing black accessories and a huge statement black ring from a antique market in Lewes. The skirt high waist which is perfect for me as I have a tall upper body.
Are you wearing plaid on plaid?
Would really appreciate it if you would share my outfit on Pinterest! Just hoover over the photo!
Ooh, I love this outfit so much! Nancy, you look amazing in this – the seam on the tights is tres sexy! I had red granny boots like those back in 1985!
I’ve also always liked a mix of uber-femme and hard rock elements. You and I would have been friends back in the day, I think!

I love it that you’ve never been one to follow the rules if they didn’t suit you. Would love to see you in your hard rock outfit back then. And I’m completely in love with your fabulous plaid and plaid outfit Nancy! xxx

Well I did wear a lot of black! But mostly pencil skirts and black tops.
Shows off your great figure so perfectly. Love the pattern mixing. You could wear a circus tent and look runway ready.

Haha, not really Leslie! And I am also not going to try! Lol!
I would have never considered putting that top and skirt together, but I love it! I will be pinning this for sure. Well done!

Nancy, this is a fantastic pattern mix! I love plaid on plaid and I find that a black and white plaid works perfectly with just about any other plaid. I have paired multiple plaids together more than once and I always love it! It is interesting and bold and fun. It’s funny you are talking about how you never liked jeans. I was just discussing with Jeff last night that I really never wore jeans until I was in my mid-30’s. I hated them, too. I found them very uncomfortable. And now they are my daily go-to!
