A retro dress is not really my thing. Although I always find retro clothing very attractive to look at. It’s just not a style that fits me. But during my hunt, yes I am hunting now, for a nice pre worn dress, I came across this retro dress. I saw it all for me. Long green cardigan, already hanging in my closet, to wear over it. High boots underneath. Great outfit. Not so. When I had it on, I felt not happy at all. Not at all myself. It’s crazy. Sometimes you can picture a outfit in your head, then you have it on, and it does not work at all. So how could this dress work for me?
I am not the type for retro look dresses
What is wrong with this dress, I thought. In principle nothing of course. It is a beautiful dress, good quality, nice print, etc. But it is just too short for me. It only is to short a few inches, but I think that always makes the difference. A few inches longer and it would have been better.
Also I already know that the lighter color in the dress( call it beige, off-white or whatever) does not do my face any good. And I think that this style just does not suit me. I am not the type for it. But does that mean I will not wear the dress? No, because I like the dress, I just don’t know how I can wear it best. That is why I made several outfits for this post to hear which ones you think suits me best. Or perhaps the outcome is that this dress is better of in someone else’s closet! That’s a possibility too.
My favorite of last week is: Deena of Shoes to Shiraz

Thank you Laurie. Merry Christmas!
I think your first choice is the best of all Nancy. I love how you have turned it into a green dream. The long necklaces add something special and classy to it and I think you look lovely in the dress. As for lengths: I think that is so personal. It was only after reading your text, that I looked more closely at the length of the dress to make up my mind if I agree with you or not. I think you’re right, although it did not hit me right in the face when seeing the photos. It’s good noticing and keeping it in mind when buying a next dress or skirt! Have a wonderful winter weekend. Love, Lieske

Yes I hope I can learn something of it Lieske! Haha, Have a fabulous Christmas dearest Lieske!
I love the ways you’ve styled the dress, but in particular the all-green version at the top! I think it looks great on you, but we always know best about the colours that suit us best. Have a Happy Christmas Nancy and thanks for the link up! x

Oh my goodness, Nancy, I absolutely love this dress! I love that you have tried a bunch of different ways of styling it to find the right way for you. I do like it with all the green and I really like it with the military style jacket, too. It is a very cool dress with a very fun print. What if try wearing it open like a jacket?!

It’s a shame you aren’t loving the dress as you’ve styled it so many nice ways here! With the green cardigan is definitely my favourite though 🙂
Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you are having a great week 🙂 We have had the week off with the kids and have just been doing Christmas activities – it’s been so fun! We’ve gone to two separate snow themed events, even though it’s the middle of summer here, haha!

I like the dress with the long blue jacket or the long green sweater. I think it camouflages the shortness of the dress well.
I agree with you, so often I have an idea in my mind and when I put the outfit on it looks nothing at all like I’d imagined. I think that is because I imagine myself 20 lbs thinner and 4 inches taller : P

Hahaha, I imagine myself 20 years younger!
I think it looks great on you Nancy…especially adding the color near your face!!
But that happens to me all the time,…I’ll hang up at outfit in the closet and it looks great, but on me it’s not so much. That’s why I don’t love flat lays for outfits. I know it may not be the same when it’s on me.
XOXO

Thanks Jacqui! I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas too and all the best for 2019!
I love the dress, Nancy, and as it looks familiar, I think I might have had one exactly like it once. I love the print and its colour, and your first outfit and the one with the jeans jacket are my favourites. But if it’s not you, then I totally understand. The times that I had an outfit all worked out in my head, but it didn’t work out in reality! What I do is sleep on it, and see if I can find another combination I’m happy with. If it still doesn’t work, the item has to go! Not sure if it would work, but did you try a cardigan in a bolder, contrasting colour, dark red or burgundy perhaps. And boots in the same colour? It’s just an idea … xxx

I do have that, but havn’t tried it yet. Shelbee suggested to wear it open, I think that will work for me more. Thanks Ann!
Love your retro dress Nancy! You look good in anything tho !
I do think it looks great, especially with the buttoned cardi, and denim jacket!

I love retro-style dresses on other people, but they feel too costumey and cute on me. That said, I love how you’ve styled yours so many ways—the long beige cardigan is my favorite way!

Happy Christmas Suzy! And have a great 2019!
I think always go with that intuition you get when you try on a dress. I love your darker goth look with biker jacket and biker boots. The dress is fine and Ok and you look fab but I agree with you Nancy that it’s just not quite you. I like you in darker colours and quirky and funky!!!
Have a lovely lovely Christmas dear Nancy and here’s to a great (and perhaps interesting) 2019!

Green tights are great! I wear them a lot! Buy them Chrissy! Haha
Can’t go wrong with any of these classics dear. My fave would be the first one, you styled it so beautifully.

Retro dresses have become very popular because of how fashionable they are.
Author
Yes they are! Thanks!
Ik moet zeggen dat ik echt geen type ben voor die jurkjes. Het staat mij niet, maakt lomp.
Ik vind de styling met het blauw nog het mooist.

Ik vind ze altijd zo mooi, maar t staat mij voor geen meter!
