Isn’t that a lovely theme: jewelry with a story! I love to read every ones story. They might not be spectacular, like mine isn’t, but it’s the personal touch that I love. I hope you will enjoy reading it! And that you would like to join us next month! Everyone is very welcome!
Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge and myself started this series after we had hosted The Bad Buy Book for a year. Now we are ready for a new challenge! Every 15th of the month we show our Good Buy or Good-Bye item. And we want you to join!
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book about?
It is a collage of outfits! You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye ( which is an item you are going to say good bye to). We will keep buying a Bad Buy from now and then, you know, it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted(needed) to buy something etc. But of course we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday, and every time you wear it you get that holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to send in. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide a theme for each month!
So let’s start with The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Jewelry with a story!
First my dear blogging friend and co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge
For Mother’s Day a few years ago, my mother-in-law gave me this beautiful vintage butterfly brooch that belonged to her mother. I was very close with her mother and we shared a special fondness for butterflies. I always think of her whenever I see butterflies so this brooch is such a special gift to me.
Sheila of Ephemera
When I was first in university in 1985, I used to stop off at my Grandma J’s apartment (she was my Dad’s mother) and visit with her for a couple of hours, about once a week. Every so often, she would pull out her jewelry and a couple of times she actually gave me some pieces, including a gorgeous Renoir solid copper cuff, and an earrings/ necklace set in unmarked copper. I wore them (and continue to wear them) for years.
It means so much to me that her wear patterns are there: where the copper has dulled from rubbing against her cheek, the green oxidization from her skin oils. There is probably still some of my Grandma’s DNA on these. Every time I wear them, I feel close to her – and I know it would mean a lot to her that I still wear them.
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style
This necklace (and earrings) were my Aunt Nancy’s and my cousin gave them to me after she passed. One of my friends told me that this is an American Indian necklace story to depict times and events in our lives.
Michelle of My Bijou Life
And here is my jewelry with a story
You will not know me otherwise than with this necklace on. It’s not that noticeable though. I got this necklace from Gerben when we were dating for six months. And that was now 30 years ago. I never took it off! The only time it goes off is when I need to have a X-ray taken. The little heart is the second one, the first one my cat chewed on and I thought it was so cute that he did that…..until I saw the damage, lol. But it is a very Good Buy from Gerben!
August’ theme will be: Beachwear!
And now hop over to Shelbee’s blog to see what the other fashion bloggers are wearing!
Send your photo with a few sentences if it is a Good Buy or a Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlights! Send it please before the 10th of each month to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to batennancy@gmail.com

Wow, what a wonderful necklace from Gerben and funny story about the cat! It’s nice to read the stories about what makes a piece special and I’d say your heart necklace was definitely a good buy!

Kellyann
What lovely stories you all have. I would have liked to join in, but circumstances haven’t allowed. I’ll explain all in a month or so!

The stories here are lovely, especially Shelbee’s and her thinking of her grandmother every time she wears the jewellery. And I love the story of your cat chewing the heart! Such a nice post

It is! It feels like it gives me bad luck when I take it off!
Great post!
I’m a German jewelry artisan (popping over from Michelle’s blog) and love that kind of stories because I often wonder if my pieces will be earning their own stories along the way, and the thought that they might be able to is really nice.
Of course I also have my own personal stories, like those about some of my grandma’s pieces that I got.
Thank you for sharing yours!

Ah you are the maker of Michelle’s necklace? How lovely of you to comment, thank you very much. I live in the Netherlands btw.
Yes, I am.
I once mentioned one of my favorite inherited pieces in a post, but now think I should write another post about jewelry with a story, it’s such a great topic.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to link back to this post.

That would be a honour! Waving back!
I love reading everyone’s stories! I didn’t really have any jewelry with a story to participate but I am excited about beachwear; particularly since it’s supposed to be really hot here this week.
Author
Yes here too! So lots of chance to shoot in our bikinis right! Looking forward to see your contribution!
Thanks so much for featuring me, Nancy! I love your story – that is so sweet. Although, bad kitty!
Author
Oh Sheila! A kitty is never a bad kitty, lol.
Such sweet stories! Jewelry can hold such precious memories!

Yes indeed, or bring us back to a special place!
What a precious keepsake you have in your grandmother’s jewelry and in that petite heart from your husband. Love the story of the kitty nibbling the first heart. PC has given me a number of heart shaped pieces but so far our kittles have not noticed them!!

Make sure they don’t! Lol. Thanks Leslie!
