Don’t you just love a garden party! I adore being outside, eating outside and all. And to have or to throw a garden party is always a lot of fun. Whether, it rains or shines. Well, I’d rather have it sunny and dry but we do have bbq’s where the rain was pooring and we still had a fab time! But what to wear to a garden party?
Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.
Black for a garden party?
Hey, you know me! I love to wear black! But to be honest I had something else in mind for a garden party, which I actually had but it rained all day so had to wear something warm and arms and legs covered. And then I watched a video of Carla Rockmore and she wore a similar dress as inspiration for a garden party. So if Carla Rockmore says it’s okay to wear black, who am I not to listen!
I added golden sandals like she did, a golden fun bag like she did, statement light earrings like she did…..but no golden necklace! I had to add something pre loved of course! The necklace is.

My look started out with my go-to- LV scarf I got in St-Germain-des-Pres, Paris ten years ago. Decided to style it up with this lovely sheer Desigual dress I found in the coverup section of my favourite charity shop. And if there was ever a match made in heaven, I also found earrings there, that made it look like a complete set! A very old, but much loved LV purse accompanied the look- and I was ready for a garden party!

Sipping Champagne in suburbia…
Sundays in high summer, bubbles from a crystal flute, a fleeting air of sophistication…
…that’s what ‘Garden Party’ means to me.
It’s The Thrifty Six theme for July so I’m glamming it up in candyfloss coloured silk!
This ‘pretty-as-a-picture’ vintage outfit, embellished with a flurry of pink accessories is perfect for any alfresco soirée!
Don’t my fashion friends just look so fabulous! I hope we could have inspired you to shop pre loved items. Just give it a try! Till next month!
I love that you went with black! I adore the tiered details of this dress and this gorgeous necklace. All of these looks are lovely!
Thank you very much Kathrine!
Love your black tiered dress, which is just perfect for a garden party when the weather’s not up to scratch.
Would have loved to see what you originally had in mind.
But wait … only the necklace is pre-loved? xxx
Yes it is! I really wanted to wear this dress for a garden party!
I tend to wear a lot of black too; but I do love all these looks!

Thank you very much Tina!
Such a fun, tiered dress! And of course you had to wear black, Nancy!
Haha, you understand me!
Great dress and necklace, Nancy! Why not wear black to a garden party? You look fabulous and the loose tiers of this maxi dress are perfect for an outdoor summer or spring event.
I totally agree!
Black makes you stand out amongst all the florals, Nancy! I love your pretty flounced dress. I went to a garden birthday party on the weekend, and you know I wore all second hand, including my fit & flare party dress!
All fab outfits here, but special shout-out to Emma and Jane
Thank you very much Sheila!
