Winter Coats! On Stylish Monday

Stylish Monday fashion bloggers

fabulous winter coats

Do you have a coat that you love to wear? A winter coat that you look forward to wearing it again? Almost wanting  the weather to be cold enough to get it out of the closet? Our theme this month is, you already guessed it right, coats!

Stylish Monday is created out of a Facebook group of Life and Style bloggers. Every month we interpret a theme in our own way, fashionable wise of course. It’s a fun way to be creative with clothing and accessories. And to see how other women interpret a theme chosen by someone else. It is a fabulous fashionable way to create something beautiful with other bloggers.

My not so perfect winter coatpurple waterfall coat

I always have a lot of trouble finding a nice winter coat. The one I sold last year was one that I bought because I needed a coat, but I didn’t like it at all. Last year, that sounds far away, I finally found one that I love. You can see it on the blog post from last Friday.

It is just a simple long wool winter coat. I love that! Just two buttons, no strap, pockets and a collar. Simple and elegant. I hope you see that as my style. I received this one that I’m showing today, but I never wore it. Way too cold, no collar, no pockets. But a great purple color!

Shall we see what my charming fashion friends are wearing?

Amy of Amy’s Creative Pursuits houndstooth short coat

As a Wisconsin Gal, we have severe winters and live in parkas all season long.  I have parkas of all styles, lengths, and colors filling my closet, but for this challenge I wanted more of a statement coat so I chose a very old pea coat that rarely gets worn. It’s a fun, unique coat, but not that practical for my climate.

In Interior Alaska, winter lasts about seven months. Temperatures can be anywhere between 40 below (or less) zero to slightly above the freezing point. While around the freezing point a loden coat works fine, a heavy down coat is a Must at 40 below. These coats make everyone look like the Michelin Men.  Shearling  or goat coats work fine down to -30C (~-22F).

I have a bit of an obsession with coats especially since I live in a snow belt where winters are long and frigid. And I am usually drawn to dramatic statement coats which I love to search for in thrift shops. That is where I found this Jordache white faux fur coat a few years ago and it cost less than $10. I don’t wear it often but when I do, I feel like a fancy polar bear!

Suzanne ofAsk Suzanne Bell leopard print coat

As someone who wears a lot of black and denim, a fun coat is an instant game-changer. From animal print to bright red – I like my coats to be fun. Throw some faux fur into the mix, even better. And yes, I have been known to wear a coat over my pajamas!

Nina of Sharing a Journeystylish winter outfit

I love styling coats and jackets in the winter; layering accessories, playing with shapes and colors.  In today’s post, I am sharing a few thoughts on elevating your coat styling game.

Gwen of Gwen Lives Wellpost with fashion bloggers

Needless to say, living in Florida, I don’t get much of a chance to adorn my winter gear. Sure, we get a few days in the 50s, but generally, a leather jacket or wool poncho is all you need. So while I donated most of my ‘heavy winter coats from my New York life’ collection ages ago, I still have a few favorites, which I share on the blog.

The coat pictured here was purchased just a few years ago, as an in-between coat – not for weather that’s too cold, but cold enough for more than a wool poncho! Perfect for New York in November, pre-pandemic, 2019.

Winter coats, jackets, gloves, mittens, hats and scarves are all a must have living in Illinois!  Of course, a girl can never have too many of varying colors, lengths and styles!  I might just have two closets full!

This long length plaid (I’m always mad for plaid!) coat was a must have from Old Navy this year!  It’s the first plaid coat in my collection!  I think it pairs great with my star sweater and these navy fur trimmed boots.  Every winter I think I might add a coat or two to my collection!  After all, it is the thing everyone sees first in the winter!

Andy of Pearls and Pantsuitsleopard winter coat

I’ve had this snuggly leopard print coat from Chico’s for several years now, and find myself reaching for it again and again. It’s the perfect little layer for our milder winters, and for my cold office! Not to mention that anything leopard is always a good idea!

Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood neutral colored winter coat

I think coats are a closet staple if you live in the Midwest. We have had our share of cold weather and snow as you will see from this post, today, but overall it is mild (that means in the 30s & 40s for us). Speaking of closet staples, if you don’t own a Winter White or Cream one yet, you should.

I think a classic wool coat in cream will be timeless and it can last you for several years to come. I love mine (it’s from Loft from last year and both Loft and Old Navy have almost identical ones this year). Stop by the blog today to see sweet Vivian also, in a pretty blush pink coat.

Emma of The Style Splashfashionable winter coat

It has turned really cold and frosty here in the UK so I need a warm coat. This vintage cream one is perfect as it’s long and has a hood to keep the snow off my hair…yes, we’ve had snow! I found it in a charity shop for less than £10…such a fantastic bargain!

Michele of Seechele_stylesstyle bloggers series

This fur leopard coat is reversible to a rain coat…  it’s over 15yrs old and will never go out of style!

What a great collection of fun and stylish winter coats isn’t it!

It sounds like the only great thing about the purple coat is the color. It is my favorite shade of purple! But yeah, if a coat doesn’t keep you warm, then what good is it?

Indeed, it’s just the color and although it is a beautiful color, it isn’t mine!

Nancy, I love this purple coat! The color is so magnificent and bold and fun! But yeah, if it isn’t working for you, I applaud for you getting rid of it. I have such a terrible time getting rid of anything in my closet! Have a great week, my friend!

Haha, did you sell a lot already?

      • 17th January 2021 / 18:22

I have been reselling on Poshmark for about 5 years and I have sold 178 items in that time period for a grand total of $1,987! Not a ton of money over 5 years, but 178 items gone is a really good thing!

Well I think your coat is beautiful, I love the color, but I certainly understand why you don’t want to keep it. I’m not going to keep the coat I’m featuring today either.

I see so many beautiful winter coats but have no real need for one here. I usually just add layers so I can remove them as the day goes on. I do love seeing what everyone wears based on where they live!

    Happy New Year, Nancy,
Your purple coat is a head turner. I totally get why you got that piece. It is gorgeous. It adds definitely a pop of color to a rainy day and lifts the mood. Great find.

I happen to think your not-so-perfect coat is perfect. PLUS I love the deep dark purple colors. Wrap coats are so chic and elegant, love that this is long. However they are made for cool to cold weather, not super cold. You can always wrap up with a big scarf or snood though (to keep your neck warm) and/or wear a turtleneck underneath. Coats are a MUST in my part of the world. Glad we did this collab. =)

Hope all is well Nancy. With Vivian back to school in person this week and she doesn’t occupy my laptop for her school – FINALLY – this will be the week I join all the linkups. Do stop by on Thursday too and link up with me. Thank You.

    Happy New Year Nancy! =)

Love your purple coat Nancy. We celebrate Mardi Gras here in Louisiana, so it would be fun to wear to a parade or party (if we ever get to do that again). I always enjoy these collaborations, they’re so fun and full of wonderful style inspirations!

  12. 11th January 2021 / 18:22

Winter coats – in fact, coats in general – are a weakness of mine, and I have to admit that my coat wardrobe is full to bursting. That said, the purple one you are wearing here is such a fab colour. I’m hearing you on the issues you’re having with it though, but you could still wear it on a slightly warmer day, with a nice big scarf or shawl? I think the colour absolutely suits you! xxx

  13. 12th January 2021 / 18:22

Hi Nancy! I love your coat! I have a similar one in grey – it reminds me of a robe. It’s so fun – but like you, I really don’t wear it much – though I would like to. Could be that we just don’t get all that cold here, so my opportunities are limited. What a fun round up!

Oh wow, Nancy, I’ve got a coat the exact same colour. Actually seeing your coat helped me think through my latest post! I got my purple coat out and thought gosh, how much I’d like to wear it again! I love the colour on you – very much statement coat. Maybe get another one………..

Take care and stay warm and safe xxx

I think I will stick with my black one! I am not a purple lover actually. It’s very cold here and no weather to go out and cycle a bit. I wished it was spring already!

  15. 12th January 2021 / 18:22

This is a great selection of winter coats and styles! I don’t even have a coat right now..just a puffy jacket for the cold weather. I’ve been bundling up a lot lately. Brrr!

    Nancy,

Your purple coat looks so fabulous on you despite that it doesn’t meet your criteria, but I totally get that! It’s great when style and function come together! Living in a cold climate a girl can never have too many coats. Another fun collaboration this month!

Great color Nancy, I’d love a purple coat. I have a lilac coat but I hardly ever wear it because it’s not as warm as a parka and can’t be worn in rain. Thanks for linking at #WowOnWednesday
