Ode to Iris Apfel! That’s what the theme is this month.
Welcome to the monthly edition of Match made in Seven! We are a international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie. And then we style an outfit based on that theme. This month Sonja choose the theme.
Who is Iris Apfel?
Oops, that’s a theme! What should we do with that? Everyone who likes fashion a bit has heard of Iris Apfel. This Jewish lady is an interior designer and fashion icon. Her brightly colored outfits and large black-rimmed glasses make her a striking appearance. Well it would be easy to put on glasses like that and there you have your theme! But I wanted something different. So I took a good look at various photos of Iris Apfel and then I knew what I was going to do for this episode of Match made in Seven.
My ode to Iris Apfel
The nice thing about a monthly theme post with other bloggers is that you are often taken out of your comfort zone! It really took me a while to figure out what do with this theme. I wanted to stay as close as possible to myself, otherwise it feels a bit like a play. After I had seen many photos of this icon, I knew I wanted something with brightly colored beaded necklaces and bracelets. And because I did not have them, I ordered beads and made them myself. Iris Apfel wears very large beads, but I choose some smaller ones.
She wears bright colors, but also combined with black. So I chose to do this for my ode to too. I love the combination of red, orange and pink. I decided to combine that with a simple black skirt. That way the accessories are the protagonists of the outfit! Can’t wait to see what my fellow blogger friends came up with!
Take a look at my fashion blogger friends to see how they have interpreted this theme!

I would really appreciate it if you would share my outfit on Pinterest! Just hoover over the photo!
Oh, what a great way to channel Iris Apfel’s style but still show yours, Nancy! You made your own beaded necklaces?!! I’m so impressed. The blend of red, orange and pink with the black skirt is brilliant! Beautifully done, my friend!

I would find this a very daunting challenge but I love the way you studied Iris’s style and found a way to make it work for you! It’s a very wearable look too, smart for work!

Thanks, I did find it a struggle though!

It was a difficult one Gail! Thanks!
Iris would be a hard one for me. She’s so in-your-face with her fashion – and that’s what makes her happy (and what makes her her). I love what you’ve done with the challenge! The bright colors are beautiful on you and I love that you’ve toned it down with black (I hadn’t really noticed that about Iris before, but she does). The beads turned out great – you’ve accessorized perfectly – and the shoes are darling. Great job on this tribute!

Thank you very much love!
What a fun idea for a theme! I love accessories and I hope I look as great as Iris Apfel and still love accessories as much as she does when I’m older! 🙂 My extravagant bracelet stacks have been put away for a few years as they aren’t the best with toddlers and nappies, haha! But I look forward to stacking again when the boys are older 🙂
Hope that your week has been going well 🙂

You choose a very original subject!
I love your interpretation of Iris Apfel. And it still looks like something you’d wear, instead of a costume. I love that you made your own necklace, too. xxx
