Whether it’s a night on the town or a special photo shoot, you deserve to look and feel your best. But let’s face it: fashion can be expensive! The latest bag, hottest shoes, and boutique blouses are not in everyone’s monthly fashion budget. For most of us fashionistas, we have to be resourceful with what we have. But that doesn’t mean you have to settle for cheap clothing. In fact, there are loads of budget-friendly ways to look expensive, no matter how much you have to spend. Whether that’s a thrift store, a friend’s closet, or a killer online sale, here are five style tips that will help you look expensive without spending all your money.

Fashion on a Budget, Wear All Black
All black is a classic look that suits any occasion. Whether it’s a night with the girls or you just want to look chic for your next outing, black from head-to-toe is a simple way to elevate your style and showcase your class. When you’re wearing all black, it’s important to keep in mind shades and fabric. A washed out black comfy top with newer black jeans will take away from your sleek all black look. If you’re pairing jean material with a cotton or jersey boutique blouse, you’ll want to make sure the two fabrics match and have a similar wash.
When you opt for a dark as night outfit, don’t be afraid to style it with some color! A bold lip, sparkling shoes, or bright bag is the perfect way to add some life into this expensive looking ensemble.
Choose the Right Accessories
Accessories are a must-have for every fashionista. Whether it’s new earrings, chunky sunglasses, or a new hat, you can make any outfit look expensive when you strategically accessorize with the right pieces.
When you opt for that extra element in your outfit, be sure to do so sparingly. Over accessorizing with cheap bracelets, gaudy necklaces, and mis-matched shoes can distract from your outfit. Instead, if you’re choosing to spice up your look with jewelry, opt for simple gold accessories. Whether it’s a sleek bracelet or timeless earring, gold jewelry will accentuate your outfit and give you an expensive look without breaking the bank. Do your research and learn more about the various precious metals and how to find the right one for you.
Make Sure Everything Fits
It’s not always easy to find proper fitting clothing. Whether it’s budget-friendly or expensive, many of us struggle to find that perfect fitting pair of jeans. One thing that will make your clothes look more expensive is to ensure that everything is fitting correctly. That may mean doing some extra digging to find the right store that offers clothes for your body type or even going to someone for alterations.
Alterations may seem like they would incur more cost to your clothing budget, but say you find an adorable pair of jeans at a thrift store. Take the money you’ve saved on buying something thrifted and take those pants to a tailor to get that perfect fit.
Fashion on a Budget, Avoid Anything “Distressed”
Distressed jeans are trendy, sure, but do they look expensive? Unless they’re truly designer, chances of your ripped jeans or distressed tee looking expensive are slim. Instead, opt for solid pieces in your wardrobe with no holes in them. Plus, it’s always important to make sure everything looks clean and polished, so steam or iron everything and avoid those ripped jeans from college.
Kim Kardashian may be able to pull it off, but not everyone has the bank account (or spouse) to buy designer Yeezy.
Rock Those Pointed Shoes
Pointed shoes may seem like a bold statement, but they’re easy to rock, elongate the leg, and elevate any look. Pairing your outfit with pointed shoes gives you a timeless feel that will transform your look. Whether they’re heels, boots, or flats, pointy-toed shoes are a chic must-have in your closet.
Simple things like styling, steaming, and fit are crucial in the fashion world, but in all things, remember to be you! Fashion is a great way to express yourself, and you should feel confident whenever you step out the door. Dress how you want to and rock the style that shows off your unique personality!

Indeed, I love black!
I agree with all of these tips – I always struggle with fit. Sounds crazy but sometimes I have no idea if something fits well, just because it’s not falling off of me or too tight doesn’t always mean it fits well. I need a personal stylist, lol!

Yes I think that the fit is the most important one. Thanks Kathrine!
Great tips–the only one I don’t subscribe to is wearing all black. I think a monochromatic look can give the same chic look.

Thanks Kim!
All good except the pointed toes on shoes and boots….they come and go in the fashion world just like anything else. Just make sure you can walk in and be comfortable in whatever shoes/boots you choose….hobbling is not an “expensive” look except maybe for your Podiatrist or Chiropractic bill

Thanks!
I couldn’t agree more on the fit. That’s a huge secret that I’ve learned. Even t-shirts can be altered to look like they were made for us and that makes them look more expensive.

Valuable tips, I’m sure. Fit is important indeed, but wearing the right accessories certainly is! That would be my main tip to finish and outfit and make it look expensive! xxx

Great tips!I think that is what I notice the most is the fit when I see someone and they look really cool no matter what they wear: the fit and their confidence!
