Eye care-How to look after your eyes properly

Glasses, eye care

Our eyes are of course very important. I only wear glasses because I use extra oxygen. Because I don’t want to leave my house with a tube in my face, I have special glasses. I normally don’t wear glasses. But how important are your eyes? Very important! Are we then just as frugal at our eyes as we are with our facial skin, for example?Me and my oxygen glasses

These days most people are aware of the need to eat well, watch their weight and get plenty of exercise. But, few people give much thought to the fact that they need to look after their eyes too. It is not hard to do. You just need to follow the following short guide.

Have your eyesight tested regularlyHow to look after your eyes

Everyone should get their eyes tested at least once per year. You should not wait until your eyesight starts to fail.

Regular eye exams can help detect vision problems early, before they become more severe. This is crucial, as issues like cataracts can develop over time and gradually impair your eyesight if left unchecked. If cataracts or other vision problems are detected, there are effective surgical treatments available, including premier cataract surgery, which can help restore clear vision and improve your quality of life.

Cataract surgery, for example, can remove the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial one, allowing you to see clearly without the need for a corrective lens. When choosing a cataract surgeon, it’s important to research their qualifications and experience to ensure the best possible outcome. It’s important to know How to Pick a Cataract Surgeon as you would want the best to perform the surgery and restore correct vision. That said, taking proactive steps to maintain and protect your eyesight can help you avoid the onset of more serious vision problems and enjoy a clear, unhindered view of the world around you.

Buy good quality glasses

Use your prescription to buy a set of good quality glasses from somewhere like EyeBuyDirect.com. Make sure that they fit properly. If they slide down your nose while you are reading or looking at a screen you will be straining your eyes. Your vision can only be accurately corrected if your glasses sit on your face properly. This is especially the case if you wear bifocals.

For those who prefer a more traditional option, real glass reading glasses or of any other brand can be a good choice. Investing in high-quality materials may enhance durability and visual sharpness, making them an excellent choice for daily wear. Additionally, consider anti-glare coatings or blue light filtering lenses to reduce eye strain when using screens for extended periods.

Keep your eye glasses clean

You need to keep your eyeglasses clean. There are several reasons for this.

Firstly, if the lenses are dirty they cannot do the job of adjusting your vision properly. Without realising it your eyes will have to strain to see things clearly enough.

The other reason is that dirty glasses can be a home for tiny mites and fungus. These can cause infections in your eyes and sometimes your skin. You can find out more about this from this website.

Keeping your hands clean can also reduce the risk of eye infections. People touch their eyes dozens of times every day.

Wear sunglassesHow to look after your eyes

Perhaps the most important thing you can do for your eyes is to wear sunglasses. Ultraviolet light does a lot of damage. Choose a pair that offers protection from both UVA and UVB light.

Cleanse your eyes every day

When you wash your face, make sure that you do not miss your eyes. Don’t use soap and do not rub the area around your eyes too vigorously. The skin in this area is very soft and thin. So, it is easy to stretch and damage it. You do not want to speed up the rate at which you develop droopy eyelids or wrinkles.

Instead, take a clean flannel, and wet it using fresh-flowing warm tap water. Wring it out and press it gently against your eye. This will soften any mucus. After about a minute, take another corner of the flannel and very gently wipe them. This will remove any softened gunk.

Treat infections fastEye care

If you do get an infection, book in with your doctor or speak to a pharmacist, the sooner you treat them the better. The ecosystem in your eye is very delicate. It does not take much to upset the balance. When things get out of kilter it can take a long time for your eyes to recover and get back to normal.

Get enough sleep

Only when your eyes are completely closed are they able to relax and rejuvenate. So, make sure that you get enough sleep.

Lastly, you should eat well and get plenty of exercise. Numerous studies have shown that this really helps to keep your eyes healthy.

I am guilty of washing around my eyes too enthusiastically. I need to be more gentle. My mom has macular degeneration and since I am prone to that I have been wearing my sunglasses more regularly. Thanks for an informative post.

My eyesight has deteriorated since turning 40 and now in my 50’s I’m at the point that I need my glasses or contacts all the time. I hate it! I miss being able to see unassisted. Our eyesight is so important!

Eye care is important! I developed some floaters (boo!) last year and had to get my eyes looked at. Thankfully they’re hardly noticeable and did fade, but it is just something worth checking out just incase!

I am actually considering giving this as a present to my husband for Christmas: an appointment with the eye doctor ! It’s so important to take care of them and we sometimes forget.

Keeping spectacles clean is an ongoing job in my case! I’ve recently switched to multifocals, and they are a godsend but for a proper reading session I’m still using my reading glasses. I’ve also got prescription sunglasses, and wouldn’t be without them. xxx

I have used multifocals but they made me dizzy. And I only use mine outside, in the house I don’t use glasses.

This is so good. I think we take it for granted most days, but our vision is so important.

Yes and especially the skin around our eyes is so thin, we should take good care of it!

Great tips, Nancy! I get my eyes checked every 2 years because according to the eye doctor at my eye age my vision is not rapidly changing. But my kids go every year for an eye exam. And I clean my glasses about 100 times a day! Haha.
Thanks for sharing this important information and linking up.
