Are these ballerinas frumpy or fabulous?

frumpy ballerinas

I can like a really frumpy style every now and then, like with ballerinas. Perhaps you are now thinking to yourself, yes Nancy, we see that every week……we already know. Okay, I always look at myself totally different then other people do. Is that the same with you, or are you normall people? Lol. Or I can also like something kitsch, while my interior, for example, is very sleek and minimalist. For example Art Deco.

Perhaps I am just frumpy….well, I like that then!

frumpy ballerinas

I really enjoy watching those English antique shows on the telly. And then I see something that on the one hand I find very beautiful, but on the other hand seems very kitschy. And then it turns out to be Art Deco. I am not quite sure if it is beautiful or just ugly. I’m going to read more about what Art Deco actually is in the near future, and then look for something Art Deco next time I’m in England. Because I am drawn to it.

So I feel the same way about these kind a frumpy ballerinas. On the one hand they are a bit weird, but I love them! I love those straps over my foot, I also love Mary Jane’s. But I think I should wear these shoes with something that contrasts the frumpy ballerinas. Otherwise I really feel like a fool. But actually it is more your totall appearance that creates a certain style, right?

Frumpy ballerinas and tartan

frumpy ballerinas

In any case, I fell in love with these shoes, which are not at all useful for now because……not warm at all! They are sheer at the side. So my feet are really freezing when I wear these. The things we endure for fashion sake.

Well, I had in mind that these ballerinas wouldn’t look cool enough under a skirt, so I’m showing them  today with jeans. By the way, they do look great under a skirt, I wore them under this one with a biker jacket on top, super cool. Super frumpy cool, hahaha. And when I look at these photo’s I can imagine much better looks then with these jeans…… I love tartan so I was very happy when I saw this jacket on Vinted a while ago. It fits like a glove, lucky me.

I’m actually tired of these jeans and am now looking for a tight cropped version. But will look on Vinted as I am not planning on wearing jeans a lot. I am wearing a leather olive green bracelet, the green comes back in the jacket and also a same coloured belt. Be honest: is this look with the ballerinas frumpy or cool?

Fabulous look, Nancy. And aren’t all the fashion experts touting that frumpy is the latest hot trend? Or is it only cool when the youngsters wear it?

Your ballerinas are saved from frumpiness by the strap – they look like Mary Janes which are very trendy. I avoid the usual ballerinas, with no strap, because I find them uncomfortable, and I’d rather wear other types of shoe or boot.

Me too, I never wear ballerinas, my feet always look swollen in them.

That style of shoe is far better for me than flat ballerinas, a little more support and I think suits the slightly retro look of the jacket! The outfit works Nancy!

I think you look very cool, Nancy! Not frumpy at all. The whole outfit is very stylish. I recently bought a pair of shoes very similar to these, only mine are silver lol! And they’re not sheer. I haven’t worn them yet but I had in mind to wear them the exact same way as you, with a pair of jeans and a a little jacket (perhaps the silver bomber jacket I wore on the blog earlier this week!).
I’m also a huge fan of everything Art Deco, as well as those English antique shows. I’m loving Salvage Hunters at the moment. Have you seen it? Its on Discovery channel as well as the Quest channel I think!
    Have a great weekend.

I like the heel on your shoes and don’t think they look frumpy at all! I bet they are terrific with a skirt and moto jacket, super cool look I hope you wear soon! I bet they are cold though, you are right, the things we endure for fashion!

I think you look super cool and not at all frumpy! For me it’s the jacket that makes the outfit. And the way you accessorise. But it’s still too cold here to wear just a jacket. You’d have to throw a coat over that to stand the temperature outside

Love the shoes too. Thanks for hosting Nancy and have a great weekend.

I love your Mary Jane-style ballerinas and don’t think they’re frumpy at all! I think they’re going to be super versatile shoe! Love this relaxed look!

I have a pair of Jambu Mary Janes that I bought 5 years ago that I didn’t wear much at the beginning but I have been a lot more now. I like them with certain pairs of pants, mostly the cropped ones.

I think they are fabulous! I love a mary jane looking shoe with a little heel like these but have a hard time with true ballerina flats; I always feel like they make my feel look funny.

Yes me too, my feet always look so thick in flat ballerinas!

  10. 2 February 2024 / 19:42

Love this whole look, Nancy! All of the extra touches really make it special. I don’t think the Maryjanes are frumpy at all. They have the best details, and are right on trend (whether you care about that or not). The low heel seems perfect for walking, and for skirts and pants alike. Hope you enjoy your weekend and thanks for the link up!

Hi, Nancy – I myself am not a Mary Jane girl, but I like ballerina shoes and they are in style. Your stockings really make your ballerinas extra cool the way the stockings play off the sheer insets in your shoes. The tartan and casual jeans also add a cool factor contrasting with the shoes. Your jewelry is definitely cool. Overall, just be your true self because that’s beautiful! XOXO – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

I also love Mary Janes! I think these shoes are adorable and I love the pairing with jeans and your beautiful tartan jacket. This outfit is cute yet edgy, cool without being too trendy, and totally Nancy! I love it!

There’s nothing frumpy about this look, Nancy. Although I’m not much of a fan of ballerinas, I do love your heeled, Mary-Jane style ones. I love a shoe with a strap like that (and so do my feet :))
The cropped tartan jacket with the jeans is very cool indeed! xxx

I’m not a fan of the shoes – I also like all the elements (the mary-jane straps, a practical heel), but I feel like you can do better, Nancy.
