5 Tips for Running a Great Fashion Blog

fashion

Fashion blogs are all the rage these days, but running one successfully calls for more than a taste in latest clothing trends. With competition fierce and getting fiercer by the day, you will need to roll up your sleeves and get to work harder – and smarter, too – than the rest of the fashion flock. In case you are considering jumping onto the fashion blogging wagon, here are a few tips that might help you when looking to rise above the competition.

Choose your niche before starting a blog

Fashion is a huge industry, which is why you should be very careful when choosing your target audience. For instance, you can aim your blog at 30-something moms who have a preference for vintage style, or you could go after young entrepreneurs who like to look sharp and shipshape. If you wish to share your takes on any fashion category and demographics, you can do so by targeting the audience with handpicked style details and accessories. Also, it would be a good idea to choose a niche which is in line with your own preferences because this will allow you to share your own personal fashion statement with your audience and earn some extra love for toting your favorite bits.

A catchy name for your fashion blog

Another thing you should bear in mind if venturing into fashion blogging waters is the name of your blog and your domain. When selecting the name for your blog, stay away from trending catch-phrases as these will not have the lasting appeal you should aim for, and instead try to be creative with the title of your blog. By opting for a domain name such as .me, you will have more room to showcase your originality and wit, and this will prove highly efficient in attracting attention in the overpopulated fashion blogging arena. After all, if you want to stand out, you need to have a name that stays with your audience and is easily relatable to your niche and your own style, like mine.

Make it chic

The next thing on your fashion blogging agenda has to do with the look of your blog. Remember: fashion is all about visuals, and the way you present your takes on latest trends has to be catchy and appealing to your audience. For best effects, you should choose a design that is clean, crisp, and urbane, and you should make your blog mobile-friendly as most of your visitors will probably be accessing it from their phones. In addition, you should aim for content that is 100% unique, but if you are not a huge fan of photography, you should look into copyright regulations and make sure all your posts are approved by the designers you wish to feature.

Smart promotion for your fashion blog

Once you have set up your blog and published the first posts, you should try to find ways to promote yourself on social media platforms. On top of that, you can also consider reaching a wider audience by collaborating with other influential figures from your niche or by asking influencers to share your posts in return for including links to their blogs and social media accounts. Also, you can contact fashion websites and ask them to team up with you in the pursuit of more likes and shares, or you could ask other bloggers to write a review for your blog and thus help you get more eyeballs on your content online. The added exposure will definitely go a long way in marketing, and your blog will soon start thriving.

Cash your blog in

Once your blog is up and rolling, you can take the steps to turn it financially lucrative. Still, do note that this step in the process will require a lot of traffic and time, and you will have quite a few options when it comes to the ways to generate profits from your blog. For instance, you can partner up with a few famous designers and feature their products for sale on your blog. You may also consider charging for posts about the offerings of famous designers or for advertising their products on your blog. You can also offer courses to your blog visitors which will bring in some cash on the side. If you are a bit more marketing savvy, you can also look into Google AdSense and similar advertising options.

Setting up and running a successful fashion blog requires resourcefulness, talent, effort, and time, but it can turn out to be your next source of income. If you know fashion and are eager to show it, you should come up with a unique blog name, clean up the aesthetics, and create a posting schedule, after which you will invest some time in promoting and getting traffic by social media sharing and collaboration with other names in the industry. Last but not the least, once your blog gains traction, you can monetize it and turn it into your next source of income. Good luck with your blogging efforts!

Now, I have to say that I am not a very good example of how to. I don’t have professional photo’s, I don’t (want to) make money with my blog etc. But I do hope that I can inspire women! Have a lovely day.

I’ve worked hard on my blog, but I don’t have the first idea how to make money with it. ShopStyle said no thank you as did another affiliate program. I’m just too little. I don’t know if that is my first aim anyway (though it would be nice!). I am having a fabulous time meeting new people…like you, Nancy! Thanks for the tips.

There are so many ways to earn with your blog but I personally don’t think it is worth it. I don’t make money but I accept barter deals. I don’t like ads and affiliate links at all. And for what? For a few bucks.

Lol, I think I break every single one of these “rules”, Nancy. I don’t have a niche, My blog is anything but chic (crazy background), I don’t promote it on a single platform (I don’t even have a phone), and I have never wanted to monetize it. And yet, here I am going on 14 years blogging merrily away.

I wish I’d had a post like this when I first started blogging back in 2006! It wasn’t a fashion blog, but at the time there were hardly any ways of promoting blogs and most people looked down on them. Great post and thanks for linking.

So many great tips. I have been toying with changing the name of my blog… I feel I used to do more crafts/decor… and, now I’m more lifestyle and I wonder if I should just change my blog to my name! Ahhh, always something to ponder in blogging!
