Inspired by Gucci-The Thrifty Six

collage of inspired by Gucci theme

Although I’m not really into brands, well, most of them anyway, I really like a theme inspired by, and this time, it’s Gucci. I’m especially curious to see what my dear friends have made of it. You too? Let’s take a look!

Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.

My Inspired by Gucci look

inspired by Gucci

I knew immediately what I wanted to show for the Gucci-inspired theme. Just had to dig through the archives because I no longer have this skirt. Never worn it, bought it on Vinted. But the elastic waistband was so tight I looked like I was seven months pregnant…and that at my age, lol. But this skirt immediately reminded me of the Gucci print, even the colour. If I still had the skirt, I would have styled it with dark green for this theme!

How are my friends inspired

Although I’m not massively into designer brands, I can make an exception for Gucci. My budget might not allow for such high end splurges, but it’s actually not that difficult to capture the Gucci aesthetic on a shoestring. Mixing luxurious fabrics, textures and prints is key. I’ve based my outfit on the A/W 2016 collection, which featured heritage prints, silk scarves, big sunglasses and top handle bags. My velvet jacket and pussybow blouse are both from charity shops. Everything else is years old.

I had to Google ‘Gucci Inspired’ to figure out what to style, and what I found was super fun and eclectic. I wouldn’t say my crew was as enthusiastic about the prompt, but I give them kudos for joining in.
I did cheat because not everything was thrifted. But the headscarf, shoes, purse, and t-shirt were.
But hey, I’ve had that jacket for over 15 years, so that counts for something.

The horse-bit is Gucci’s most enduring and iconic emblem—a tribute to equestrian elegance that’s galloped through fashion since the 1950s.

This dress combines the legendary horse-bit with the unmistakable red and green colours of Gucci, set against black for maximum impact.

However, it’s definitely not a Gucci dress; I believe it dates back to the 90’s when it was very shoddily handmade by someone using this striking Gucci-inspired fabric.

I picked it up on eBay with raw edges around the neck, arms and hem; I’ve fixed it with black satin bias-binding and slightly re-tailor it for a perfect fit.

It may not be the real thing but it’s a great winter pinafore and it’s definitely a conversation piece…

I also was befuddled by this prompt and had to Google search “Gucci inspired outfits”. What I found intrigued me. The brand is known for eclectic mixing of prints and patterns including dark florals, animal prints, and the classic Gucci stripes. The first outfit I styled included green striped trousers and black loafers until I realized that none of it was thrifted!

So back to the drawing board I went and came up with this Gucci inspired combination of a satin leopard motif blouse layered beneath a strapless dark floral dress (both items were thrift store purchases). I added a homemade wrap crafted from two old scarfs in leopard print and stripes and accessorized with striped tights, tall black boots, a wide black belt, a tan messenger hat, and leopard earrings found at a flea market. While it’s not my current style aesthetic, I am pleased with my work on this one!

I do not, and probably never will, own anything from Gucci, so I did a little research into what Gucci showcased for their 2025 Fall/Winter collection. What caught my eye was the bright color combinations and use of statement gold jewelry. I saw this runway photo in Elle magazine and used it as the inspiration for my interpretation based on the thrifted green pants from Eloquii.

Wearing a boldly colorblocked outfit is a departure from my usual style but I did like how it turned out! The layered necklaces and leopard print flats definitely brought some ‘feels like me’ energy to the look.

Hope to see you all next month with another episode of The Thrifty Six!

This was a difficult challenge but everyone did such an amazing job! Your skirt really captures the essence of Gucci with that beautiful print. It is a shame that you no longer have it. I love the whole outfit you are wearing. It is perfect for fall and fall is coming quick! I hope you are feeling better, my friend.

It’s crazy how much that skirt does look like a Gucci print! But looking/feeling pregnant in it – I understand why it left your closet.

Not an easy challenge, but your skirt is spot-on, even if you had to dig into the archives for it. What a shame the waistband was too tight! xxx

Yes, because it was actually a very pretty skirt from a good quality brand.

I wouldn’t know a Gucci print if it hit me! At least, I don’t think I would. I always confuse Gucci with Versace! But, your outfit was so good. It’s so disappointing when you find something only to have it not work out!

Well, I have more Good Buys on Vinted luckily, so I don’t mind. I just sell it on.
