This month we show you crochet revival! Leave it up to Jane to come up with a theme where I have to dig deep in the archives for. Because I don’t like crochet clothing that much, I could not justify to buy something crochet. Even when it has to be pre loved. Because even when you buy second hand, a one time piece is a waist of money and polution.
Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features pre loved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling pre loved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand.
Crochet revival
So I new, somewhere in the back of my mind, that I had a photo with something crochet. I thought it was a top, but I could ony find this dress. I received it from someone, can’t even remember from who, like ten years ago or so. And although I do love the look, it’s not me. Crochet is somewhat to hippy for me. It does not suit me. And of course the colour isn’t doing anything for me at all. I also can’t remember wearing this dress, so this must have been the only time.

I have a few crochet vest tops but I don’t think any of them are preloved. So, I set about looking on Vinted for a bag or cardigan that I would wear often, rather than just buying something for the purpose of this theme. At first, I found this green raffia bag that looks crocheted, but I couldn’t be sure. In any case, it’s a fab little bag for holidays. Then, I spotted this cardigan and I thought it would also be a great piece for holidays. In fact, I like it much more than I thought I would. It’s a really useful extra layer for summer that elevates an outfit without making me too hot.

This crochet top was a hand-me-down from a friend, and I’ve worn it a ton. My crew and I are exploring ideas of what to wear UNDER your crochet, so I decided to wear a swimsuit top under it. The skirt was a recent find that I thrifted for only $2.
I felt very Mod Men for some reason, LOL

Bohemian classics like crochet really light my fire – this 1970’s vintage skirt was destroyed when I found it…
…I’ve reconstructed it from the waistband to the lining and even re-crocheted it in parts.
The top is also a 70’s piece although I feel its spirit is Edwardian. Styled together I’ve created a crochet dress which sings to my boho soul…
My style crosses boundaries, I can’t put a name on it yet boho is the closest to my heart.

I have a few crochet pieces but none were preloved so I went on a little thrifting adventure and found this adorable olive green crochet pullover sweater. I wore it with a hand-me-down skirt from Daenel and my thrifted moccasins. Now I want to get all my crochet things out and wear them!

Since crochet is a perennial summer staple, I have several crochet-style layering pieces in my wardrobe that come out every year when the weather warms up. But it’s delightful that summer 2025 is seeing a Crochet Revival that puts this boho summer favorite in the trend spotlight. And it’s a very easy trend to buy secondhand! You can definitely go all-in with a boho chic look, but crochet elements can be used more sparingly to add a hint of laid-back boho vibes to other aesthetics too. I kept my styling of a dark blue-grey short-sleeved open weave cotton crochet cardigan (thrifted back in 2015!) on the classic feminine side with an A line skirt, old-school captoe flats, and a vintage bulky pearl and chain necklace (all thrifted).
And that’s it for May! I am looking forward to hear what the next challenge will be. I hope you do too!
I know you don’t love this crochet dress but I think it looks fabulous on you! I love all the different crocheted pieces that we each styled. This was a fun one!

I like crochet; though I do think of most of the items as being very summery but not necessarily hippy. It depends on the style,I think.
I do love bit of crochet and I think your dress is very elegant!
Emma’s cardigan and Jodie’s top are gorgeous as well! xxx
Nice job finding an outfit from your archives to fit the theme! The dress looks nice but if you don’t love it, you don’t love it.
That’s impressive you found a photo from so long ago.
XOXO

I think you look fabulous! But, you’re right…it’s not you. Good for you that you had something in the archives!

I think that your crochet dress looks beautiful on you! Crochet is definitely everywhere right now, and I have seen some cute pieces.
It’s funny how something can look great on us, but if it does not reflect our personality or who we are, then we won’t wear it.

But you showed a fabulous cardigan!
These posts are such fun. I think your crocheted dress is very attractive on you!! Everyone else looks terrific, too. I should check out our thrift shop to see if they have any crochet. I have a couple of pieces – a long duster that is very flattering but I snag it on EVERYTHING. And a little crocheted jacket. Need to show them some love this summer.
