I never liked it, a waistcoat. At least not for women. For men, I find it very stylish as part of a suit. For women, I found it just a little too masculine. Although I quite like an androgynous look. But yes, it’s a trend, the waistcoat, so I let myself be seduced. Not that I let myself to be seduced by every trend, I still have a mind of my own. Hm….
Is a waistcoat something for me

The problem for me with a waistcoat is that it has to fit snugly. And then I get into trouble with my lungs and shortness of breath. So the trick was to find one that was loose enough, but looks like it fits nicely. And? Did I succeed in that? Not entirely I think. I am not sure that a waistcoat is something for me. I feel a bit like a clown in it.
I’ve wanted wide black trousers for a long time. Didn’t you already have 10 of those of Nancy? No, none I can tell you. Not this design anyway….. and not this shade of black (just kidding) But these kind a trousers are often far to long, what’s nice about it when you drag your hem over the ground?? Or too tight, too loose etc. This one is perfect! But I think I send at least 7 back.
How to wear a waistcoat

I had in mind to wear the trousers and waistcoat together. But what to wear under the waistcoat? A blouse felt to dull. I can only think of tees. Or over dresses. I think that will work great as well. Jodie, don’t you have a post somewhere where you show how to wear a waistcoat? She must have, don’t you think so? I read somewhere that you have to let the bottom button open of a waistcoat. We had a wedding last Tuesday and I noticed that one man did and the other not. So, is there a ,,rule,, to that? Waistcoats are definitely not my playground.
These kind a trousers work best for me with sneakers. New sneakers yes! With gold! They are still painfully white. I am wearing golden earrings with black tassels, which I kept on loosing all the time that day. And a golden bracelet and statement ring. I love striped tops, this one is from last year. I loved this one a lot, but I saw that there was a hole in it. So need to buy a new one just like that! Which I probably will not find for ages.
You might think, what the hell is so hard about finding a blak and white striped top? I will tell you. The stripe that is closest to my neck has to be black, not to high closed, fitted not loose, small stripes but not to small, etc. Can you understand my struggle, lol. Life is hard……pff.
Let me know your honest thoughts about me in a waistcoat and your ideas please! Have a great weekend!

It’s a fun, playful look! The only time I ever had a waistcoat was when I was 15 and the trend was a denim waistcoat with a denim skirt. Have a good weekend

Oh yes! Imight have worn that look too back then! Thanks Gail.
Oh I think you definitely pulled it off! This is a fabulous outfit on you.

Nancy, I think you wear this waistcoat very well! I love the cool, casual vibe of an androgynous look and this is right on point! Those trousers are fabulous and a spectacular shade of black, too! Hahaha. I am not very skilled at styling waistcoats so now I need to go find Jodie’s post! Have a wonderful weekend, my beautiful friend.

Haha, yes this is spectacular black! Have a great weekend love!
I think it suits your style perfectly! I know you go for more masculine vibes sometimes so I was surprised that you were questioning this one. I do understand the fit could be an issue but I think this one looks wonderful on you! Thanks for the link up Nancy!

Yes indeed, I mean I love a blouse and tie, but a waistcoat……mmmmm…..don’t know why that is. Thanks Kathrine.
You are rocking this look! I think your waistcoat is fabulous and I love this chic monochrome look!

Such a cute outfit! You have great style.

Thank you very much.
You’re slim enough to take a close fitting waistcoat, looks good. I’m a little pear shape and so I only wear something like a gilet occasionally that adds volume to the top half. Many people think a stripe is a stripe, but not so! I have lots of striped tops, some feel right some not, they have a personality all their own!

Indeed Pamela, a stripe isn’t some stripe. I feel exactly the same! Thanks!
You wear this so well Nancy – the fit is fabulous and those trousers look great with it. I want to look like this!!!

Hahaha, oh Kellyann. Thank you very much love.
I think this entire outfit looks very stylish on you. I’d say wear a waistcoat more often as you can definitely do it! And I really don’t like striped tops but that striped top is lovely – it’s the sleeves that do it for me.
And thanks so much for featuring me, Nancy – that’s so kind. Enjoy the sun and warmth 🙂

My pleasure Penny! And thank you very much for the lovely comment!
I really love this look on you Nancy! The vest looks so good with the trousers. I just bought one from Target, but it is a little big. They are out in a smaller size. So, not sure what Ill do or I may just wash and dry it, as it is linen. Such a fun, stylish look with the top too.
Enjoy the sunshine and have a great weekend!

Thank you very much Jess. I still need to check how I can make mine a bit tighter.
I like the waistcoat on you! I think it goes well with your style, and I love the slouchy chic look of the whole outfit. I have a few waistcoats and short vests that I am playing with styling currently, but the perfect wide leg trousers for me have been elusive! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for the link up!

Thanks Sally!
I remember wearing my late grandfather’s waistcoat when I was about 16 but have never again worn one after that because it just isn’t me. I do, however, think it doesn’t look bad at all on you, even though it isn’t your usual style! xxx

I still have to get used to it, but I received a few ideas of how to wear it and those appealed to me.
I think that this look suits you well, Nancy. And you have the absolute right to be as picky as you need to be to find the right garment. The fashionistas that you see in magazines and IG don’t just stumble across the perfect OOTD by chance. They have stylists that spend an inordinate about of time figuring out the details that appear so effortless. I’ve always had a fondness for vests/waistcoats but like you, I’ve been challenged in finding one that fits my figure so I’m pleased to see that you’ve found one for yourself.

Thank you.
Oh, girl. I LOVE this and of course I have ideas. First, that shirt under it is perfect. Or even a graphic tee. Or sequins (the yin/yang would be marvelous).
I wore mine just like the one you’re wearing with a bralette here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CrbB6m-rzBt/
but you could just as easily take the ideas from this article and make it work with the black vest.

Oh, I think this is definitely a Nancy look! You look so good in black! It’s a shame about your tee shirt, but I am just as picky about things. We get to do that, right? Thanks for the link party and have a fabulous weekend!

I really love it, Nancy!! And I especially love how you wore a striped instead of a blouse. It looks fab!
I’m a huge fab of the wide-legged trousers too, with trainers (of course!).
How about wearing the waistcoat with nothing underneath? Might be a bit sexy!
Have a lovely weekend!

I don’t mind sexy Suzy, but myarms are really not very appealing. That said, who cares right?
Nancy, I think this is an amazing look on you! And I love the black and white tee with it. While I know bright colors aren’t your thing, I’m thinking royal blue or purple would look great too – still not too bright, but an option.

It’s always fun to read what you think about the outfits you put together, whether you like them or not! I actually really like this on you and while I do not have a waistcoat or vest as they call them here, I will be on the lookout while thrifting this fall.

Phew, just made it to the link-party – thanks, Nancy!
I LOVE this vest on you (which is what we call waistcoats in Canada), and I love this androgynous look – you look like Patti Smith or Chrissy Hynde!
The button rules are for men – wear your clothes how you like! But it’s bottom button undone for them on waistcoats and jackets. Jackets should be buttoned when standing, and unbuttoned when sitting. L follows all these “man rules”, lol!
Author
Oh I love that, a man that follows fashion rules! Thanks for the lesson! And I go with Chrissy Hynde any day!
