Gosh, velvet galore- what a horror. I can’t help it but I hate velvet so much. First of all, you see everything on it and everything sticks to it. And velvet feels so scary. And I always associate it with musty smells. Now you can all hate me, lol. But because my dear friend Shelbee is a fan of it and she has suggested this theme several times, I will have to give it a go. Here it is: Velvet Galore!
Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge and myself started this series in February 2018, but we had been working together a year previous. So you can say we really like to host these series! Every 15th of the month we show our Good Buy or Good-Bye item. And we want you to join us. The more the merrier!
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
It is a collage of outfits from all different women! You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye ( which is an item you are going to say good bye to). We’ll keep buying a Bad Buy from now and then, you know, it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted(needed) to buy something etc.
But of course we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday, and every time you wear it you get that holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to send in. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide a theme for each month!
So let’s start with The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Velvet Galore!
First my dear blogging friend and co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

Since you don’t like velvet, I decided to send you a photo of a velvet scarf that I purged. I just couldn’t figure out the best way to wear it back in 2016, so I gave it away. I bet if I had it now, I would wear it in a variety of ways, LOL.
Joanne of Slices of life

December’s theme will be: Tartan, Checks, Plaid!
Send your photo with a few sentences if it is a Good Buy or a Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlights! Send it please before the 10th of each month to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to batennancy@gmail.com
By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for next month!
And now it is time to join a Fancy Friday Fashion party!
Every Friday you can put your blog, or social media account, in the spotlights and meet other bloggers. Even if you’re not a blogger you can join! But it is a fun way to let others know about your blog posts, and to support each other. It would be nice if you would comment when you join the linkup party.
My Fancy Friday Favourite of last week is: Cheryl of Cheryl Shops
I would also appreciate if you shared a link to Nancy’s Fashion Style in your post or give a little shout out on social media to promote the Fancy Friday linkup party! And now share your post!
By joining the Fancy Friday party, you agree to receive a weekly reminder email for the linkup party.
And now hop over to Shelbee’s blog to see what the other fashion bloggers are wearing!
The only velvet item in my closet is a blazer and I don’t wear it very often. I love how you styled your velvet skirt! It’s such a pretty color combo!

Thanks Jill!
I don’t mind velvet but I don’t have any! It’s a gap I’ll look to close, as velvet is warm and dramatic!
Author
Yeah dramatic to wear! Hahaha, sorry Gail could not help myself!
I love velvet but understand why you don’t. Love the skirt you shared here. Thanks so much for the link up Nancy!

Thanks Kathrine!
I love your skirt!!! Velvet is nice but it’s usually polyester, which I hate.

I hate both, lol. Thanks Jennifer.
Your velvet skirt is gorgeous! I love the pleats and almost metallic sheen!

Indeed! Thanks Laura!
That is so funny! I actually like velvet nowadays but I didn’t used to. I have a pair of velvet pants and two velvet skirts. I wear them usually mostly in December.

To me it is a December fabric indeed! But even trousers are more clingly I guess. It’s not my cup of tea!
Nancy, I love this outfit with your pleated velvet skirt! I adore the look of velvet but, as you say, it is a bit difficult to wear for everyday, unless you can find the perfect piece. I don’t have a single velvet item in my closet currently. All of the ladies look great who participated in this challenge-it’s great to see some options. Hope you have a nice weekend ahead!
Author
It surprises me that you don’t have anything velvet. Indeed good to see some options as I never thought of a velvet scarf!
I love velvet, but I understand why you don’t like it. I hate merino wool because I find it to be so scratchy and uncomfortable. Anyway! We have a lot of velvet where I work, and I have a lot of it. Your skirt is beautiful, and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!
Author
And so we all have someting we don’t like haven’t we! Thank you vey much Caroline.
I love the sound of December’s theme so I’ll try to participate – so much is happening that I’ll have to put a reminder in my diary, though.
I’m hearing you about velvet, although I’ve got a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. I’ve got a couple of patterned velvet items, which does away with the “showing everything” part, but it still sticks to everything 🙂
Still, I love your outfit, and I think I’ve got the same skirt in gold … xxx
Author
Oh my, that skirt in gold would be fabulous! Even when it is velvet. Can’t remember that I have ever seen it on your blog!
Ha, I love how honest you are about hating velvet, Nancy! I love it, but I am very cautious with it, as it sticks and clings to everything! As you may know, I refer to this as Velvet Rage! Wearing a coat over a velvet jacket is a recipe for Velvet Rage – the sleeves ride up. A velvet skirt could end up around my waist!
Thank you so much for the link party! Whatever was going on with the comments has resolved itself, hooray! I can comment again! 🙂

Thank you and so nice to see you here again Sheila!
True, velevt can be difficult to handle. However, this skirt is such a statement. And the shimmer is appealing. So I agree with the good-buy verdict. Happy weekend Nancy. xo

Thank you very much Sabina!
I am not great with velvet any more. I find it adds inches! But you look great.
I always love to hear the whys someone likes or dislikes something. Thanks for sharing, even though you don’t like it.
XOXO

Velvet is so christmasy isn’t it Nancy. I’m thinking of getting a suit for the festive season. Thanks for hosting. Jacqui x
I have a few thrifted velvet jackets, I love wearing them at this time of year. The red bag is gorgeous!

Thank you Emma!
I love velvet, but it’s so hard to find really good velvet anymore. Most of it is what I’d call velveteen. And, it has to be sewn the right way so that the nap runs down the body, not up. I have one really good velvet jacket that I wear sparingly because I’m so afraid I’ll drop something on it! Thanks for the link up, Nancy!

Yes most is polyester. In second hand shops yu find the ,,old,, velvet! Thanks Marsha!
Looking very nice there, Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

Thanks Patrick.
I think for most people either love or hate velvet and corduroy. I say YAY to both. But my youngest daughter gets the shivers like you do when she touches either one. I saw a lot of velvet accessories at the mall yesterday so that little red bag caught my eye. I think it would be fun for the holidays and maybe Valentine’s Day but I never remember to change out my bag!!
Love Shelbee’s ruana and the many ways she has styled it. Give me all the kimonos and ruanas. Jodie’s scarf looks great but I would think a velvet scarf would be heavy. And I wouldn’t need that bulk against my already-too-large chest. Love Joanne’s dress. A versatile piece for sure. And YOUR skirt – my fave. It doesn’t look velvet in the picture. The pleats hang so pretty, and I wouldn’t expect that of a heavy fabric. The icy steel-silvery color is beautiful.
Author
My skirt wa pretty heavy but the pleats were not really pleats. Because of the fabric and the colour it looked like pleats. Funny isn’t it! Thanks Leslie!
A very belated thank you for the feature, Nancy! And I just realized I totally could have joined this good buy—I just got my first velvet dress (not counting ones I had as a child) and I think I’m a convert! It just feels so festive and fancy!

My pleasure Cheryl! Haha, I am glad you like it!
Hi, Nancy – So you have a velvet piece that you like, after all! Never say never, right? This skirt might be acceptable to you because you wear it further away, on the bottom half, where you don’t have to feel the fabric as much. It does look very good on you – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

Haha, but I hate it anyway Angie, lol.
