You may not believe it, but I bought another black skirt, such timeless elegance. And another one that I really didn’t have yet. A black pleated skirt. Yes, I had one once, but that was years ago and it was no longer the right length. You totally get me, right? What would we do without pleated skirts these days? I just can’t imagine them out of a fashinistas heart. I’m a fan pleated skirts. Precisely because they are so cool to wear. I never wear them with an elegant shoe or a feminine blouse. Then I think it becomes way too frumpy. No, especially with a graphic tee or with a biker boot. Also perfect for a festival look! And hey, there is a festival coming our way soon!
The timeless elegance of pleated skirts
I remember well that when I first started blogging, about 9 years ago, I followed an English blogger. I don’t remember her name and I’ll never see her in blogging land anymore. But I saw her wearing pleated skirts. In all kinds of colours. In the beginning I had to get used to it a bit, I found it a bit fiddly. But I soon saw the timeless elegance of a pleated skirt.
I’ve had a lot of them and sold a lot of them. Because there are materials that make you look very poofy, and others fall very nicely along your body. I think this one was my favorite. I actually had to gave that one up, totally worn out. The colour and the material were so beautiful. But I wanted a black one again. Actually, I think it’s a bit too long. But gosh, how the prices of a tailor have risen! So I’ll leave it be. I don’t have such beautiful legs to show anymore anyway.
How I like to wear this elegant pleated skirt
Just like simple black trousers a black skirt also has a timeless elegance. It doesn’t need much to shine. But if you like colours, I don’t think you will agree with me. Not necessary of course. So many people, so many flavours. That’s what makes the world beautiful. Although it has not been so nice in recent years. Is it because you get older that you are much more worried about the suffering of the world? And you think: how is this going to work out? Pff, what misery people do to others.
Okay, on with the outfit! In contrast of the skirt I like to wear something cool on it. Like a denim blouse or leather jacket. I love this blouse, pre loved, as new, €7, fits like a glove! What more can you ask for! And new fabulous sandals. That feel like wearing slippers. Not only is this a super stylish outfit(in my eyes) but super comfortabe too! Win win!

Ypu have an instinctive way of knowing how to style outfits without them ever looking frumpy. Great advice on avoiding heels or a blouse with this type of skirt. Love this look!

Thank you very much Gail! Your words make me very happy!
I know exactly what you mean about timeless elegance with your love of black skirts – and you style each one in your own unique way. I am the same with a pair of black trousers, how would I live without them in every kind of fabric. And yet I read of one blogger who said she didn’t own a pair of black trousers! I can’t imagine life without basic neutrals but hey that’s why we’re all different!!

Thank you very much Kathrine! I love that belt too, and I searched a long time for it because I knew what I wanted……like exactly……
I have not had much luck with pleated skirts but you have me convinced I need to try again! I think pairing the skirt with a cool and casual top is key to avoid looking frumpy or too professional. I’m going to keep an eye out for one and give it a try! You are one person who knows her style and what suits her and I really admire that about you Nancy – you have a keen eye and nail it every time!

I have one pleated skirt that I bought from Mango last year. I love it with trainers and a tee but I find the fabric a bit warm for this time of year so it doesn’t get much wear. You look fabulous in yours and it’s great with the denim shirt!
Have a lovely weekend, Nancy!

Hi, Nancy – I never liked pleated skirts, probably because of what you said about them easily seeming frumpy. But maybe you are changing my mind, especially in black! I love the way you paired this skirt with a denim or chambray shirt. And that’s very cool how you looped your studded belt. Isn’t it great to have beautiful, flat, sparkly sandals that feel like slippers? I do not think this black pleated skirt is too long at all. It’s perfect! I’m a bit of a black skirt junkie, heh heh – I do have a big collection. Never had a black pleated one, but I do love them in general (you have me thinking about my bronze one!). I like to “tough” up girly styles like this with denim, studs or leather (or all three!). Love the styling of the belt with this ‘fit!

Hi Nancy,
Sorry I haven’t been posting as much, I have been sick with a viral infection for over 2 weeks! I will be at your linkup tomorrow! I love the whole look, and the skirt is a winner. Looks great dressed casually with the denim shirt.
Have a great day!

Sorry to read that Jess! Hope to ,see, you soon!
I actually don’t have single pleated skirt! I am trying to work on reorganizing my closet for the summer. A friend gave me a few things and is planning to give me a few more and she has great taste in clothing. I got rid of hangers so I cannot keep more than those. But I guess I could always put away a few more fall things lol!
