How about the combination of brown with black? I am completely ready for the trend colour brown. Well actually it’s mocha mousse, but who looks good in that shade right. So let’s say, for looking good in brown sake, it’s brown. I’ve been stocking up on a lot of brown lately. Well, it’s more like this: I’ve always loved brown. Only you see very few clothes in that colour. So if it is in fashion then I buy a lot of it, or as Sheila says, then you have to stock up. I just found a lot of beautiful items in beautiful brown.
Brown with black, a fashion faux pas?
In the past, yes, but years ago when I was still young…, the combination of brown and black was not done. Such a so-called fashion rule. Speaking of which…I got into a discussion with someone on Instagram who stated that you should never wear a coat that is shorter than your skirt. Personally, I think it’s really ugly when women go out for an evening and wear an elegant skirt with pumps, for example, and then wear a short sporty padded jacket on top. But that’s purely a matter of taste. But I think a coat that is shorter than the skirt is fine, it depends on your own creativity and style to make it work. And you really don’t have to work hard. I guess that Instagrammer thinks I am a bitch now. I am……lol.
And that’s what I said, that if you have a bit of style you don’t care about fashion rules and wear what you like. She said I didn’t understand the rules of fashion. And that being said by someone who’s outfits are even more boring than mine, lol. So……I don’t follow rules, at least not fashion ones.
Wool cardigan, or is it a blazer?
So brown and black. Here I am wearing my absolute favourite skirt that I have had for a few years. With pockets and it swooshes when you walk! The old leather boots underneath, they will remain beautiful forever. And a new blazer-like cardigan in that wonderful colour brown. And it contains wool, so it is so nice and warm.
I’ve been really careful this season to buy warmer clothes, because I’m always cold. And those warm cardigans with wool I bought really provide a lot of warmth! This is the first winter where I don’t feel cold all the time. I also bought socks with wool, fabulous! Now I need warm boots for when we go walking, aka wheelcharing….
Again I am adding the chainbelt and my old classic combo of the Michael Kors watch and bracelets. It may not be on trend but I still love to wear them as my basic jewelry. The black statement ring is from a cute shop in The Lanes in Brighton. Are you a fan of the colour brown?

I cannot believe that Instagrammer! I believe you hit the nail on the head though – fashion cannot follow rules – they don’t work. I do remember when we would never wear black and brown together back in the old days, I am so glad those rules no longer apply!

That person on Instagram was so rude! I loved your response, though; bravo, Nancy! I was just talking about wearing brown with black with my manager at work yesterday. I just lost a pair of gloves that I wear with my black winter coat, and right now all I have is a brown pair of gloves that I hardly ever wear. If you are a bit used to wearing the colours together, I am sure you will love it. Lots of boho clothing combine brown with black.
I really like your new brown cardigan! I am glad you are finding some warm pieces to add to your closet: if you are going to get dressed you definitely want to feel warm if you are cold. I really don’t have much in brown: a shorter sleeved thrifted blazer, a bodysuit and I think that is about it. I am going to keep my eyes open though because I do love this darker shade of brown.

Hi Nancy, not wearing brown and black together is such an outdated fashion rule! I have heard the same thing about black and navy blue. Love your outfit, brown is a very pretty color on you. Mocha Moose has been a very divisive choice for color of year this year, I think mostly because it looks great on some people, but is a real washout for others. I purchased a Mocha Mouse pleated midi skirt recently, to play with and see how I can integrate it into my wardrobe. We’ll see! Hope you have a good week and thanks for hosting the link up!

Well, following the rules of fashion or not you always look good! I think if you feel good you look good period. A lot of fashion has to do with confidence. Just a few short years ago it was a huge no-no to wear sneakers with skirts and dresses and now it’s all the rage…. probably because a few were too confident to care and it caught on.

Hi, Nancy – I totally agree with you that we can and should throw the rules out the window! Instead, why not be creative and wear what we love? We are all unique and should not all look the same. Anyway, black and brown are a very good and acceptable combination nowadays. They are neutrals, so why not? They look good together. The brown lends some character to basic black. Thanks for featuring my post on mocha mousse. It’s a light, warm brown but not everyone looks good in that exact shade. So the stores have shades of brown for everyone of all palettes and tastes. Funny thing is, I’ve worked in the fashion industry in different industries and I have to say, a lot of editors and even photographers wear brown with black especially in New York and Europe. Wait, there are rules for fashion? Hahaha!! My mom was a stickler for not wearing white after Labor Day (the first Monday in September), but I don’t follow any rules. I wear what I want, and if it’s boring…pffft! One year, I was trying to find a brown sweater, and I couldn’t find a single one. It’s funny how colors come and go in stores. I was never a fan of brown and black together until I saw riding boots with both colors on them. I decided they looked great together and have been a fan since. Love your little cropped jacket with this full black skirt. And I like the repeat of the brown in your boots. I am seeing lots of gals wearing the mocha mousse color of the year? season? Not sure how it would look with my coloring. Seems like of mauve-y to me.
