Sorry, but I haven’t really told you about my screening week in the hospital, for a possible transplant, three weeks ago. While your kind words meant so much to me! Well, let me tell you about it.
I had to check in late on a Monday morning for the screening week. The hospital is a two-hour drive away from us, so Gerben also went home after lunch. After that I had all sorts of tests already. Had just enough time to unpack my suitcase for the week. I was allowed to go home on Friday afternoon.
My screening week
I was lucky to have only one roommate. I can’t stand human noises, dirty noises. And the smells that come with it. Dinner was awful, lunch and breakfast, well, what can you ruin with bread. But I slept well and was quite relaxed. And I was allowed to go downstairs and outside. So I sat in the sun a few times.
I had 26 examinations during my screening week and my arms were black and blue after that week from the IVs and blood tests. I had decided in advance to let everything come over me and I have to say that I succeeded quite well. While normally the hospital freaks me out. I want to be in control and I can’t in a hospital……I had all kinds of scans, lung examinations, cardiac catheterization, dental surgeon, conversations, etc.
There are no obstacles that could stand in the way of a transplant, a doctor said on Friday afternoon. I did have to take a pill for the high cholesterol. Bumer, I hate pills. Let’s not say that out loud, because you don’t want to know how many I have to take after a possible transplantation. I already have a slightly high cholesterol, 2 weeks of vacation before the week in hospital didn’t do much good for that. (English breakfast and pub food galore) And they want to get the cholesterol so low that you can’t do that with food. Which I normally can.
And I don’t have antibodies for chicken-pox, so I had to have a vaccination for that too. I think they’re going to call me Chemical Nancy …….So now I have to wait for the phonecall of the hospital if they want me on the list. If they don’t…..that would be hell.
What am I wearing
Okay the, the outfit. I know I know, you have seen these jeans a few times before. But I am wearing it every week! Love it so much. And with the white sneakers all the time. Luckily my character is not that predictable….
Don’t you just love the Baseball tee trend, I do. I wear a brown belt as there are a few brown stripes in the tee. And my all time favourite bracelet, watch and hoops. Nothing spectacular, but one of my favourite outfits of this season.
I promiss to keep you up to date about the transplant route. Have a great weekend!

Exciting that you are on the transplant pathway. I admired your strength and determination in sailing through that awful screening process. And keeping cholesterol low through diet! That’s hard to do. Have a great weekend to recuperate.

I am glad all went well with the testing and thank you for sharing with us! How long is the recovery for a lung transplant? It sounds daunting while exciting for an improvement in your quality of life and breathing. My cholesterol is probably similar to yours: a lot of borderline numbers last time I had my blood drawn.
Love this relaxed outfit! When combination works, it’s fun to wear it again!

It takes a year to recover Mireille. But it all depends on how well you are when you have the surgery. Thanks!

Btw, you look fab in that outfit. And another trip to England and pub roasts! Yay! We go to Dungeness on 2nd September for a week. Before that we are going to stay just outside Rye in a posh hotel with a spa!!!! I hope to explore Rye a little bit more than I have done before.
Sending you lots of good wishes and love X

Oh gosh Penny, if I will be on the list by then we can’t go to Rye. But if I am not we will be there around that date too! If we are, we have to catch up at Dungeness!
Your week in hospital sounds like heavy stuff indeed, but I’m glad to read you decided to take it into your stride, and succeeded to do so. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the result! xxx

Crikey, you are such a brave woman, Nancy! I have a friend who fell ill right at the beginning of Covid and she ended up having to have a liver transplant (not from Covid but from a disease she didn’t even know she had!) and she has to take so many pills and medication. But she’s thriving now which is great. I will be thinking of you, and sending you all my healing vibes that all goes well!
Oh and thank you so much for featuring me!
Big hugs

Oh my goodness, that sounds like A LOT, Nancy! I hope you get on the list for a transplant soon! Sounds like you were chill, calm and just letting it all go – good for you! There is so much in life we can’t change, so acceptance and a “let it go” attitude can really help us adjust our mindsets.
Love the sporty outfit! Thanks so much for the link-party! Just made it!

Nancy,
Oh, that sounds like a lot! I can imagine all the testing leaves you exhausted! I pray that things work out for a transplant. I know that all of the testing and confimation about things will help in the long run, but it isn’t fun in the hospital. I laughed about the food! LOL What, no gourmet chefs! for the price we pay in health care there ought to be! I will follow along this journey and am wishing you the best. Such a cute outfit, jeans look great on you. I have such a collection but its too hot here now to wear them.
