Second hand dress for a wedding party

second hand party dress

I was searching on the second hand site for a beautiful dress for Gerben’s niece’s wedding. Not that I had any choice in my closet, but I just wanted to see what the offer was. Not a long evening dress! Just a dress for an evening party. Not fancy or anything. For something of a gala, I think I’d rather opt for a rented dress. Then you can go all the way. I think …. I don’t know because I never have parties like that!

The second hand dress I didn’t wear to the wedding party

I came across this dress. Isn’t it a lovely one! I bought it and it looks great. It is from the brand I used to work for, so I know the size will fit very well. It cost me 17 euros! Bargain huh! The upper body fits like a glove and is stretchy. And the skirt is the perfect lenght and the colors are so gorgeous! Also, the skirt get wider in the right place, so there is no need for corrective underwear

But I will not wear this one to the wedding party. Haha. My sister-in-law, the mother of the bride, wore a similar dress. In other colors but also a dark upper body and a floral skirt underneath. so I think she will never look at me again if I put on a similar dress. No problem, because of course I have some other dresses!

Opt for a pre loved dress! You may be surprised!

But so you see that a second hand dress can look like new and even though this dress is from a few seasons ago, it is a timeless design. If I would wear this dress to the wedding party, I’ll bet I was the one with the cheapest outfit and still looking like it was a expensive one! And it’s so much fun to search for a bargain that you are thrilled about! I have already bought several dresses pre loved like this one and this one.

This is how I would have worn this dress at the wedding party. I opted for nude shoes because I want the accent on the skirt of the dress and the flower pins. Yes I know a lot of you think two pins are to much, I like two! A leather bolero to spice it up a bit and simple gold colored jewelry. And a, what you name I think, obi belt.

How to dress down a party dress

Many women that came to my store, and needed a dress for a wedding or some other party, had no idea how to style that dress after the party. You don’t buy a dress to only wear it once! The most simple trick is just: add high boots, don’t need to be elegant ones, and a long cardigan! As easy as that! Almost any dress can be dressed down like that! I wore this dress like that and you can see it on my Instagram account here!second hand floral dresshow to dress down a party dressleather bolero with flower pinsnude shoes under a dark floral dressfloral dress in black and brownsecond hand dressfloral silk pins

What a gorgeous dress, Nancy, and I love how you styled it with those huge flower pins (in this case, more is more!) and that obi belt. And well done on embracing pre-loved. Such a pity you weren’t able to wear it to the wedding, but now I’m left wondering what you wore instead. I’m sure all will be revealed? xxx

Oh, I totally agree! Fancy dresses should almost ALWAYS be purchased second-hand! I have a collection of gowns and fancy dresses that I rotate every 4-6 years – I also loan them out to friends, so that they don’t have to buy a new dress.

This is a lovely dress – I would wear it to work, no problem. Good call on not matching the mother of the bride, though! That would be a big faux pas!

Love the expression pre-loved. That dress is fabulous and must have been very gently pre-loved. You always find the most interesting ways to make an outfit your own. Your corsage!! And those taupe booties elongated your great legs. Perfect wedding look.

What a beautiful dress, Nancy. I love the way you have styled it with the belt and the little jacket. I
am beginning to see existing items in my wardrobe in a new light and also look at pre-loved items instead of wanting to buy new all the time.
