Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Boots.
Over a year ago, Shelbee and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Shelbee learned that she has a problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” And I learned that off-white against my face is not the most flattering color. However, after running that series for a year, we decided to change it a bit.
For this series, you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right.
But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.
Let’s begin with my dearest co-host, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge with her Good Buy/Good-Bye Boots.
“My burgundy over the knee boots are sort of a combination of good buy and good-bye boots. I purchased these from Charlotte Russe a few years ago. I love the color, I adore the style, they are super comfortable with the flat heel, and I do wear them quite often, making them a good buy. However, they absolutely, no matter what I try, will not stay up! So when I do wear them, I spend the day pulling them back up over my knees as they slide all the way down to my ankles making me look like a girl-child playing dress up in boots that are 10 sizes too big! Any ideas for keeping them in place are welcome!”
And now Sabina of Oceanblue Style at Manderley with her Good Buy Boots.
“These boots are such fun: I have had them for ages and it was love at first sight. They are quite classic in their ankle style. But the pastel python print is funky. They make me smile every time I put them on. So-definitely a good buy.”
Next is Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag with her Good Buy Boots.
“My Toms Open Toe Booties are a closet staple for me. I grab them all the time, they are comfortable and stylish and the heel height is perfect! I actually own them in three colors because, you know, when something works it works!”
Liz of Closet Play Image shared lots of great Good Buy boots. Be sure to check Shelbee’s post for her other ones!
“As for boots, I am a boot girl! I grew up in the Midwest (Read cold, wet, snowy winters) and now I live in a place that I’m lucky if I get to wear boots four months out of the year. (And a sadness fell over the land.) I’m not sure there can be a Good-Bye boot in my book! Although there was a painful pair that I no longer own, nor do I have a picture of me in them. Give me a dress and some boots and I am one happy girl!”
“In case you were unsure how much I love boots, here’s a pair that I’ve had so long that the lining is beginning to peel away, and are helping put my cobbler’s children through school. I love them so much (Even if they are black) that they were part of my Baker’s Dozen Capsule last fall. When you choose only 13 clothing items and 5 shoes to wear, for a month, everything better be a favorite!”
“Celebrating because it finally cooled off enough to break out both the wool skirt AND the boots. I’ve had these for a couple of years, and although they aren’t my hair color, they are light enough that they don’t drag the look down like a black boot would. I love the casual look and the padded sole that lets me walk around in them comfortably all day. Can’t wait for the weather to get even cooler so I can tuck in my skinnies and top off the look with a cozy poncho.”
And now Jodie and Charlotte of Jodie’s Touch of Style with their Good Buy Boots. Be sure to check Shelbee’s post for Nancy’s (the 70+ model) Good Buy Boots.
“Charlotte the 80+ model wore her new plum booties with her distressed look. I swear she looks 20 years younger in this outfit!”
“These are my newest favorite pair. I bought these embroidered OTK boots at the end of last winter and didn’t even get to wear them then. But they were under $20….definitely a good buy in my book. Especially after being inspired to wear them with shorts. It’s my favorite look lately.”
Here is Sonja of BeautySoMe
My best buy ever! At Zalando I saw 5 years, it could also be 6, ago these boots and I needed them! I still love the wooden sole and Yes they make that sound as if you are walking on Wooden shoes, Dutch style! There was one thing that was irritating me and that was how to get out of them… I had several nervous breakdowns and then I decided to cut my boots at that place were it was stitched. Off course I did some sewing to prevent ripping the fabric. Last year I had to repair them, but still glad that I bought these babies!
Here is Lieske of Petite Teacher
Having extremely petite feet means that buying fashionable shoes and boots is a real challenge. These ankle boots (bought in a specialised shop for small shoes) have soon become favourites of mine. They have everything I love in ankle boots. They combine well with trousers and with skirts & dresses. The heel is high enough to add some extra centimetres (great for petites) and low enough to be able to wear them in the classroom all day long (practical for teachers). One of my best buys!!!
And finally my own Good Buy Boots. My Good-Bye Boots are featured on Shelbee’s page!
“The laced up booties are my favorite. I have always wanted boots like these. I think they are so cool. Punk and edgy, I love it!”
That’s all we’ve got for Boots for this issue of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. The theme for December will be Scarves and Other Winter Accessories! Be sure to send us your favorite (or least favorite) cold weather accessories…scarves, gloves, mittens, hats, snoods, muffs, wraps, anything will do!
Send your photos with a few sentences describing your Good Buy or Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlight! Please submit your photos with a brief description by the 10th of December to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com.

Boots….what’s not to love about boots? They keep me warm in the winter, and look so stylish??
I had to laugh at the pair you threw out from Shelbee’s post. That’s such a bummer. But those lace up one?? They make up for the throw away pair!!! You are one hot mama!!
