Tartan, Plaid, Check! The Good Buy Good-Bye Book

collage of tartan outfits

What better theme then tartan, plaid, check for December! I associate tartan especially with red and green, and those are the Christmas colours aren’t they! So let’s make this last one of this year cozy with this lovely print. And again, although I love plaid, I don’t have much of it in my closet. I really am a plain Jane.

Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge and myself started this series in February 2018, but we had been working together a year previous. So you can say we really like to host these series! Every 15th of the month we show our Good Buy or Good-Bye item. And we want you to join us. The more the merrier!

What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?

It is a collage of outfits from all different women! You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye ( which is an item you are going to say good bye to). We’ll keep buying a Bad Buy from now and then, you know, it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted(needed) to buy something etc.

But of course we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday, and every time you wear it you get that holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to send in. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide a theme for each month!

So let’s start with The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Plaid, tartan check!

First my dear blogging friend and co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

plaid tartan check

These black and red plaid tights have been long time favorites. I purchased these on clearance for a few dollars well over a decade ago and have definitely gotten my money’s worth. A very good buy, indeed!

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

This plaid blazer with the embroidery has always been a favorite and definitely what I would consider a good buy now that I’ve had it over 10 years. Since I added color to the embroidery it makes it even more “me”. And doesn’t it look fun with the tulle skirt?

Mireille of Chez Mireille

plaid tartan check

I bought this plaid dress at Target a couple years ago and while I have worn it on its own, I prefer to wear it over something because of its length.  This time I added a skirt under. Love it because it can also be worn as a jacket!

I so rarely wear anything plaid but when I saw this shirt in my closet the other day I just knew it would be perfect for this month’s theme. I loved the bright pink and yellow color and the more fitted style of the shirt from day one. While I really only wear it open with a tank underneath (like the pink one shown in the photo) because it doesn’t fit properly when it is buttoned up, I just can’t bear to part with it. It has been such a good buy because even though I only wear it once or twice during the fall and winter I really didn’t invest much in it to start with and I’m sure I’ll be wearing it for a few more years yet since it only seems to get softer with each wash.

I love wearing this dress and enjoying the compliments from people who enjoy the shimmer of the sequins. It’s definitely been a Good Buy!

Di of Di-alog

black and red dress

This outfit is a deep red and black plaid dress with a flounce at the hem, perfect for the Christmas season. I don’t wear this dress often, because it is a wintery tartan, but I would say it was a good buy, because I can also style it with a sweater, jacket or other topper over it to change it up.

And here is my plaid, tartan, check

plaid, tartan, check

This is one of my favourite checked trousers from years ago. I love the colour combination, but those trousers were so great! I wore them mostly with black of course. I want such trousers again in my life! These were definitely a very Good Buy!

January’s theme will be: Greys!

Send your photo with a few sentences if it is a Good Buy or a Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlights! Send it please before the 10th of each month to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to batennancy@gmail.com

By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for next month!

I love the festive theme of tartan for December—it’s so cozy and perfect for the season! It’s great to hear about the collaboration with Shelbee and the Good Buy/Good-Bye series; what a fun way to reflect on our wardrobe choices. Tartan definitely fits the spirit of Christmas, and I’m sure many will enjoy seeing how others incorporate it into their outfits!

I love this blogger’s round-up on tartan, plaid, and check! I’m always drawn to this print, even if I don’t wear it myself—seeing it styled so well and in so many ways gave me fresh inspiration. Everyone looks so beautiful! xx

Oh dear, it seems that once again I failed to contribute. I really must do better!
What a lovely round-up of plaid you ladies are treating us too. Your trousers are gorgeous, particularly combined with burgundy! I was nearly tempted to buy tartan trousers a couple of weeks ago. Will have to see if they’re still there! xxx

I love your trousers, but I was super enthralled with the plaid skirt and tulle under it on SHelbee’s post. I need to recreate that.

Thanks Jodie! That was a great look too! I don’t have a tulle skirt at the moment, and I really want one again.

I love your outfit, and that sequin dress! I’m not always a fan of plaid because I wore a uniform to school growing up, but these are all lovely looks!

I can imagine you have seen enough of plaid for the rest of your life then! Thanks Caroline.
