A modern cowgirl look without thinking about it. And that while I don’t like a western look at all! And I didn’t feel like a cowgirl until I saw the photos. Two of the items I am wearing here are those purchases that make you think (after you bought it of course): what am I going to wear it with! Cause I never learn…. Let me first explain that to you and then how I came up with this western look.
Modern cowgirl look with western boots
I have often said that I never buy sets, even though I know very well that it is better to do so. When I was still working, I always advised women to buy sets, not only because of the better sales figures, but this way you always have something that matches. I just buy something if I really like it and then think that I always have something that looks good with it. Not so. First, these boots. I saw these in a restaurant in spring, where a woman was wearing these boots under a summer dress and I immediately fell in love with them and found the same boots too!
My girlfriend bought the same ones in beige, when we shopped together. But I have worn them once under a dress and other than that I don’t really think they look nice under anything. I’m actually not a fan of cowboy boots at all… pffff. And I just don’t think the colour goes with what is in my closet. And the style isn’t me at all. But I do like them and they are pretty comfortable. So have to make them work!
And then the skirt. I love brown and this skirt has a kind of big wide ruffle at the bottom which provides a lot of movement. The length is perfect so what’s not to like right. I was a bit doubting if I should return it when I received it a few months ago. I should have listened to that whispering voice. However…….how often do you come across a dark brown skirt? Not me anyway.
Why am I having so much trouble styling these boots?
On the other hand, I do love brown a lot and I think I will wear this skirt more. It’s just that it’s so much brown. No buttons, no pockets, no pleats or anything else interesting, just a brown column. So how did I came up with this combination?
Because I love brown and blue together! And the only other blue jumpers I have are navy and that is to dark for the skirt, so that’s why the denim blouse. And I choose the boots because I needed to wear them, I don’t want them to be a faux purchase. Only afterwards I saw that I looked like a modern cowgirl.
A the moment I am falling in love again with the golden chain belt. And I added a flower pin which matches perfectly. I think I am going to wear the golden jumper on this skirt with the boots too. And my suède boots will look great also! I will go past all my dresses and skirts in the closets, holding the white cowboy boots and see with what they will look great. Because they must! Do you think of me as a modern cowgirl in this outfit?
And now it is time to join a Fancy Friday Fashion party!
Every Friday you can put your blog, or social media account, in the spotlights and meet other bloggers. Even if you’re not a blogger you can join! But it is a fun way to let others know about your blog posts, and to support each other. It would be nice if you would comment when you join the linkup party.
My Fancy Friday Favourite of last week is: Bojana of Bo’s Bodacious Blog

I would definitely consider you a modern cowgirl in this outfit! You’ve made it your own, and that’s the best kind of style. Keep experimenting with those boots and see what other combos you can come up with — it sounds like you’re already on the right track!

What a fabulous look Nancy! I love the contrasts of textures and colors. That asymmetrical line on the skirt is so chic and yes to these boots with it. Thanks for the link up!

Thanks Andrea!
I love how you styled this: that brown skirt is really pretty, the perfect color and adding the chain belt… I love it! And of course I like the white cowboy boots with it. I actually pulled mine out yesterday to wear to church this weekend. They really go with a lot, you have seen how much I have worn them in the last 6 months on the blog. There are such a fun contrast to dresses and skirts! When I see your denim shirt, it makes me wish I had one, but I never did wear mine. I do have a black one and I could try something like this!

A black denim shirt sounds good too. And I think I will wear the boots more often in the warmer months!
Nancy, I love the boots. White cowboy boots have been on my wish list for about a year but I already have similar style white boots that I couldn’t justify buying another pair. Long story short, I love yours and am obsessed with wearing them with dresses, skirts, denim skirts/shorts, and even jeans. I am also on the look out for a cute little gold chain belt like you styled here. So so cute. Thanks for the shout out also, greatly appreciated.

Love this love, Nancy! The outfit does have a little bit of a modern cowgirl vibe! The brown slip skirt is beautiful and makes for a really fun juxtaposition and mix of styles. The colors brown and blue are such a good combination. I think when spring comes, you will find some more possibilities for your white cowgirl boots. Thanks for hosting the link up and hope you have a great weekend!

Love the brown with the denim blue! I actually like the white cowboy boots in this outfit but I can see it going either way depending on your preferences. Dark brown is a hard color to shop for – I’m still looking for the right dark brown cardigan!

Those boots are really cool, Nancy! Your idea of holding them next to everything in your closet is a good one! I don’t really see cowgirl even though you’re wearing those boots. I just see a beautiful woman wearing blue and brown together which always works so fabulously! I would love to link up, but my son fixed a laptop issue so well, those link up buttons don’t show up on it (not even on my own parties). I’ve got to get him to understand what a link party is and then fix it!
