Fashionista’s dilemma: why women constantly want new clothes

fashionista's dilemma

But is it really a fashionista’s dilemma or are we just passionate about clothes? I have to say that this season, or actually seasons, spring is already over after all, I have not bought much new clothes. This is due to that very cold and wet spring. I have also learned in the meantime not to buy something new too soon in the season. Why have I learned that now, at the age of 57? Why is it so hard to listen more with the head instead of the heart when it comes to fashion?

A fashionista’s dilemma

fashionista's dilemma

So, why not buy early in the season? Because 1: It might be weeks, even months this spring, before you can actually wear it because of the weather. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen something much more beautiful then what I already bought by the time I can wear it. Point 2: First take a good look in your closet. For example, I often want to order a top and then I have an almost similar one hanging in my closet already. And isn’t it a bit decadent to buy something just because the shade is a little different? Is that a fashionista’s dilemma?

And why are we women so eager to buying something new? Have we really gotten tired of the clothes we have so quickly? I just think like this: you only live once. Buy it if you like it! It’s as easy like that, it’s not going to get any deeper here on my blog, lol. It’s not a fashionista’s dilemma! We just are passionate about clothes and being passionate about something is a good thing. Unless you are passionate about murdering…….where is that comming from…..I am watching to many British detectives…..

Soooo, it finally became dry and warm weather here in the Netherlands. And I still didn’t have much new in my closet. And I had something in the online shopping cart for weeks. Soooo, click! And it was on its way to my address! That’s what I showed you last week! But I do have to show a new tee! Number 3 of the 4 black ones……but all different.

Something new, something old…

fashionista's dilemma

Old because the skirt is pre loved and you might have seen it a few weeks ago. The t-shirt with lovely puff sleeves is new, but bought months ago and this is the first time I am wearing it. But that is just fine, because it’s black! And I never get bored by black clothing! Can you see the cute flowers on the sleeves?

White sneakers because I wanted to wear sneakers under this skirt. The colour combination is not perse a favourite of mine. Red is not even a colour I like to wear. But I have my (colour) moments. Still, when I wear colour I like a monochrome look the best. I love the earrings I am wearing here, so super summery. And black and white bracelets that are very very old. One new item, very frugal for a fashionista!

I have been hearing that summer is very late to arrive in your area. Glad it has finally come, and you have a chance to wear short sleeves! Your top is so summer perfect with the puffy sleeves and appliquéd flowers. I’m a big fan of red, so of course I love your red pleated skirt. Thanks for sharing and the link up, and hope you have a great sunshiny weekend!

I love the details and the puff on the sleeves; that is such a cute top. Paired with that eye catching red skirt and you have another lovely outfit.

I am so glad you take closer pictures of your accessories: I like how you reflected 2 colors with the bracelets and your earrings are so fun! I love how this look came together. I know how it is with buying clothes, I go through phases of buying more and then not. Yesterday, I go this really cool lacy sweater thing with really neat sleeves (no washing dishes or chores with that top). It will be really fun in the fall. It was preloved at a shop in town.

I like the way you think, Nancy! It’s fun buying new clothes. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve almost bought something and then remembered I either have the exact same thing or something quite close. Love, love, love the flowers on the tee sleeves! I wouldn’t have been able to resist that! Thanks for the link up!

Yes that happened to me also, such a waist to buy similar things……says someone who buys black a lot….

  7. 27 July 2024 / 07:52

Love the skirt and earrings. I think I’m tempted to buy clothes because of wanting to show different things on the blog. Trying to resist and wear my existing wardrobe!

You look gorgeous in this look.
    I love that preloved skirt.
Your words also made me think.
Why do women always want new things?
    It’s a good question.
Sometimes new things bring new energy.
But there’s also something beautiful about creating stories with our clothes.

It’s interesting to see how your approach to fashion has evolved. I can relate to the struggle of balancing impulse buys with practical decisions. Waiting for the right season to wear something, and avoiding duplicates in your wardrobe, makes a lot of sense. The excitement of new purchases can sometimes overshadow the practicality of evaluating what we already have.

Your new tee sounds like a great addition to your collection, especially with its unique puff sleeves. Mixing old favorites with new finds is a smart way to keep your wardrobe fresh without overindulging. And I agree, black clothing never goes out of style!

It is a dilemma because I always love all the clothes and yet I have so much.
I will admit, that it’s nice that it gets warm here early in the season so that I can have 6 months of sandal season.
And I was giving you a standing ovation with this red skirt. It’s so stunning on you, Nancy,
    XOXO

I’ve always been passionate about clothes, from a very tender age, and I keep being tempted by new clothes even if my wardrobe is full to bursting. What has changed is that I’m no longer looking at new trends and buying the majority of my clothes second-hand. I’m usually only tempted by the new season’s clothes when they are in the sales and I’m seeing something I’m unable to resist. Anyway, I am loving your outfit here. The red pleated skirt is gorgeous and the black puff-sleeved blouse is a stunner. I wouldn’t mind having these in my wardrobe 🙂 xxx

    HI Nancy
It is a fashion phenomenon is it not? I don’t know, perhaps it is because we want the excitment of something new? I a quite happy with my Spring Summer closet and have done alot of purging and giving clothes to charity, that just werent my style anymore I love the black and red here, and those are great sneakers. I go through all of my seasons each year, and if I add something new, I get rid of something old. It keeps me from accumulating so muh stuff!

I adore the detail on this puffed sleeve top, Nancy! I’m sure you will get a lot of wear out of it across multiple seasons and as you said – you love it so buy it! =)

The struggle is real—I love a lot of my wardrobe but am constantly looking for something new. Maybe it’s an evolutionary trait?! Shopping your own closet first is always a good idea though. Love that red skirt on you!

I love this look! I think that the reason why we constantly feel like we “need” new clothes is because the fashion industry puts the pressure on us to keep up with trends, but also because fast fashion brands produce clothing of poor quality that doesn’t last nearly as long as back in the day! Though I agree that thrifting can be a fun and sustainable way to refresh one’s wardrobe. <3

Hi, Nancy – I’ll bet you have so many beautiful clothes and accessories to restyle and appreciate. It’s a wonderful feeling to get something new. But I have slowed down and have become very choosy about what I get that is new. I have so many things that I need to get rid of! I splurge more often now and get higher quality. Some of the most beautiful things are favorites that are worth wearing over and over. I enjoyed a good laugh about your train of thought going to murderers. Lol! I am so sorry for the late comment; things have been busy! Since I work at a clothing shop and we get a clothing allowance every month, that is pretty much the only time that I buy clothes. The only clothes that I have purchased outside of my work are shorts, two t-shirts, and a romper. I also don’t like to buy something unless I really need it or love it. Anyway! I really love this outfit, Nancy. It is so chic, and that skirt is just stunning! I hope that you are enjoying your week too!
