I don’t know if I said it here on the blog already, I did on Instagram, but we have a new kitten! His name is Jack and he is 5 months now. We had to put our dear Teun, an almost 16 year old Mainecoon, to sleep at the end of January. So terribly sad. We knew we soon wanted another Mainecoon. Not so much for ourselves but more for Castor, our 8 year old Mainecoon. He doesn’t like being alone, I’m home a lot but I don’t think I’m good enough, lol. Mainecoons are not cats to be alone. They need the company of each other.
What you need when you have a kitten in your home
So we went looking for a breeder and lo and behold: There was Jack! Still a tiny kitten as we saw him when he was 8 weeks old. It took a few weeks before we could take him home yet. But then the day came when we finally could surprise Castor. And I forgot how energetic a kitten is! My arms are already quite full of scratches and bite marks. He wants to fight me all the time. But he is also very cuddly. Starts to purr immediately when you pet him. And after our two boys had to get used to each other for a few days, they now really like each other and play a lot together.
What you really need when you have a kitten are cat poles where they can scratch at and a lot of bouncing balls. So that he can entertain himself, and to throw, as a distraction, when he discovers your plants and you are tired of saying no for the hundred time…..
What a perfect scratching pole Jack received
What’s funny is that Gerben and I had already looked for such a scratching pole, krabpaal in Dutch, but we didn’t know if Jack would scratch on this one. Because most of the poles are made of special rope. And this one is made of cardboard. So we decided not to buy such one. And then I received a email if I wanted to choose something and then write about it. So when I saw this scratching pole I didn’t need to look any further. And you can see from the pictures that kitten Jack is very happy with it.
We have some beautiful baskets for him, but he just sleeps on the cat pole in the evening. And he plays a lot on it. And so nice to see how happy Castor is now. And Jack really just jumps on top of him, bites him everywhere, he finds it all good. You can follow many of kitten Jack’s adventures in my Insta stories. In any case, he already knows where to find the sink to drink from the tap. You can find more lovely pet products, producten voor huisdieren, here!
I would really appreciate it if you would follow me on Instagram.

Oh Jack is so gorgeous! And he looks so comfortable on his bed/scratching post. My Henry is almost 16 and I can’t bear the thought of not being with him, I love him so much. Pete said he wouldn’t want another cat but I’ve always had cats, I can’t be without one. Dogs are too much work for me, I like how cats are so nonchalant and do what they want!

Indeed! I also always had cats. When Gerben amd I just met, he had nothing with cats. But in no time my cats were all over him and he fell in love.
It looks as though Jack has established himself quite well within your household. That scratching pole looks rather like a piece of art than the typical ones I’ve seen which is great.

He’s adorable and that cat scratching “post” is really nice; I like that it looks more like a piece of art or furniture than something made for a cat.
Your kitten looks really cute, love the colour of his fur, very on trend 🙂 as is a scratching pole, Nancy. Have a great weekend. Anna

Jack is absolutely beautiful, Nancy! I adore cats…I have three sisters, Myrtle, Shannon and Sadie which we found abandoned on a road when they were barely a few weeks old. That was five years ago!

Oh gosh, I am glad they found a home with you!
I love Jack! He looks very content. When you said kitten my first thoughts were, wow, he’s huge! My daughter would love him but I’m happy with my diddy cats.

Yes Mainecoons are huge cats. He already looks like a normal cat, he is growing very fast.
Jack is such a cute! We love Mainecoon. Our cat Smokey was one. Congrats on your new addition. I need to get our cats this scratching pole. It’s perfect for hiding and playing Thanks for the link up!

What a cutie! My daughter had two elderly cats until a few months ago when she lost one with great heartache. She has now adopted a rescued cat of about a year old who, after initially being extremely timid, has settled into her new home. Patience and love have enabled the two to become great friends. As with us all company is so important for animals.

Hi Jack! He is such a handsome little guy! And what a cool scratching pole. Cats are so finicky like that, aren’t they? I got our cats an awesome ramen soup bowl cat bed for Christmas and they refuse to go in it. They love the cushion that it came with as long as it is on top of the living room ottoman and not in the actual cat bed! And George, our bunny, absolutely loves the cardboard cat scratching poles. My cats don’t really use them so the bunny hijacked them and now they are bunny chewing poles, I guess!

Hahaha, yes they can be so fussy!George is one lucky bunny!
Jack is such a handsome chap, very cute. At this age they are so funny and bring a lot of joy into the home! I love his “very stylish” scratch post. My cat, Jarvis would love it. He is sixteen in two months and still runs around the garden like a big kitten, though not as much these days. Must admit to dreading the day when we don’t have him.

I know Alison. We had to put Teun to sleep and it is such a horrible thing to do. They can be such a huge part of your life!
What a beautiful kitten! He sounds like a lot of fun and work! I love how his cat pole looks like a piece of furniture, it is very aesthetically pleasing!

Indeed! Jack is not the only one who is happy with it, lol.
Jack is just adorable, and looks very happily adjusted to his new home! So glad Castor has a companion, again. That scratching post is very unique, I see why Jack likes it so much, since most cats just love cardboard boxes. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend!

Congratulations on your new kitty! Jack is very handsome. My older sister has a cat named Feddy (he is named after Roger Federer the tennis player) and he took a little while to warm up to me but then he was OK with me. He is a sweet cat. I also had an outdoor cat growing up, her name was Kitty. Clever name right? Haha. Anyway! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend! XO

Haha, you didn’t have to think hard to call Kitty right? Lol. Thanks Caroline.
What a nice article, Nancy!

Oh isn’t Jack gorgeous? I am in love!
Although Bess has a regular scratching post, she also has a simpler version of Jack’s cardboard one, and she absolutely loves it. Like Jack she even sleeps on it sometimes! xxx
Author
I think also that they have a particular smell right? Not to us but for the cats that atract them.
Oh, how adorable. And you’re lucky they are getting along. That makes me so happy…I wish my two were like that.
We have a cardboard scratcher like this and our one kitty always uses it.

I had never actually seen this ones before! They really blend in with the interiour as well.
Jack is beautiful! And I’m glad Castor has a new friend. I once had to get a another cat for the remaining cat. Max wasa big, orange tabby, and lost his Buddy, Sam to a fungal infection. It wasn’t long before we knew he needed a new cat friend. And we got him one. So I understand. Jack looks so cute on his scratching post. 😀
Author
Oh that is so good of you. It would be so sad when Max would feel lonly!
Jack is SO cute! I’m a huge fan of long haired cats!

Indeed Laura, me too. We have a very very minimalistic interiour and I don’t like to add new items, but this one just blends in easily!

I could not live without cats in my hoese. They are so fun and cozy!
I’m so happy you got another kitten, Nancy! They take so much work when they’re young, but so cute. Vizzini has never liked scratching cardboard – he likes thick carpet.
