5 Styling Secrets Every Hair Dresser Is Keeping From Us

You know that moment when you look yourself in the mirror at the hairdresser’s after they’ve done their voodoo and what not, and you realize that, with that hair, you are actually red-carpet material? Ahhh… That moment right there is what most of us would kill for to have on a daily basis… don’t you just envy the celebs for having the privilege?

Good thing is that celebrity hairstylists (as well as your local ones) aren’t that mean when it comes to sharing their skill tips with the world. Like all other wizards of the beauty industry, they too realize how important it is to channel your inner glow through your physical appearance – so, they assist in achieving it. Naturally, none of us can actually copy the skill 100% (after all, they did go to school for it) but we can try, right?

Here’s what they advise.

Hair diet is king

6 Tips to find the right hair products

You’ll never leave the salon with good hair unless you’ve kept it healthy; without proper foundation, it’s almost impossible to get a polished look. Healthy hair can be shaped in almost any hairdo, it will have volume and shine, and your hairdresser will manage it easily.

To keep things healthy, hairstylists advise you to add a few tricks to your daily routine:

You are what you eat, and so is your hair. Too much caffeine and/or sugar affects the way your hair grows as well as its appearance. Tone it down.

Moisturizing is necessary. With the season change, hair tends to get extremely dry and your scalp flake, sometimes even becoming painful. If you’ve ever noticed your scalp white of something resembling dandruff, that’s it – your hair is lacking moisture. The remedy is to use deep conditioning treatment or mask no more than twice a week. When treated with too much protein from deep treatments, hair may even break. Be careful.

Your hair products are your Holy Grail

When hair’s not cooperating, it’s usually because you are using a wrong product. Consult with your hairdresser at the hair salon on the type of product to use before running your strands altogether.

Yes to texture sprays

The first day after the salon, you look great. The next day – not so much. Your hair needs a little plumping, and that’s okay. Experts we’ve talked to swear by many different texturizing sprays and claim no customer has ever had styling intolerance to it. Apparently, the spray does all – from heat protection and volume to taming frizz! A dry texture spray also works perfectly; all it takes is to flip your head over and spray through roots and into hair. Flip back, run your fingers through it and just like that you have a Gigi Hadid worthy blowout!

Heat is (almost) unnecessary

Hairstylists around the world agree that, unless they have to use a blow dryer, they’d rather not at all. The way they see it, the best way to add volume is by using frizz fighting serum or air dry cream and then comb through to distribute evenly. That way, hair is getting texture without running the risk of split ends. We did not know that!

Bend is everything

6 Tips to find the right hair products

Unfortunately, not all curls will stay fixed throughout the day and instead of hours spent perfecting each curl, you can go with a simpler version – rely on Cloud Nine O rollers, which are amazing in giving hair volume quickly. You can also take either a 1¼ or 1½ in. curling iron and curl only the middle section of your hair. Rock the “lived in” look!

While we may not have a glam squad on speed dial, knowing a few of these insider tricks brings us one step closer to that salon-fresh feeling every day. So go ahead—play with volume, experiment with texture, and fake that blowout like a pro. Because when you look good, you feel unstoppable—and that’s a secret worth sharing.

Thanks for the tips, Nancy! I use just about every product under the sun for my fine thin hair. I haven’t found the perfect combo yet, but I’ll keep looking. I know heat is bad for my hair, but I have to use a curling iron or my hair looks like lots of limp noodles!

Haha, the same here Marsha. But I use the curling iron once a week, that’s enough for me and it stays good the hole week.
